Want to Piece Together a Price History?

ekm,
I am almost positive that my guide called me in the summer of 92 to tell me that the price per point was going up.
It is very hard to dispute the paper work, isn't it? :)
I believe you are totally correct, and, since you have the paperwork, I don't think I would dispute this any further. :)
Thanks for backing up my memories about a price increase.

Rich,
For the sake of my sanity (what little is left) I went through some of my paperwork. In Sept. of 1992 I received a letter from my guide. In this he informs me that as of November 1, 1992 the price would be jumping from the current 54.50 per point to 56.00 per point, with the minimum purchase being 12880.00 (which is a min. of 230 points). This leads me to conclude that between Feb. 92 and Sept. 92 there was, indeed, a price increase of 3.50 per point.
If I were in your position, I would find it difficult to argue with members who clearly have the facts of their contracts. And....with members who have written proof of increases.

Gail thanks for helping to "dig". I've added the info into "History 2".

Pam,
You are entirely welcome, always happy to help. :)

I just noticed the Fall '95 date for the $62.75 price increase. Our purchase was in July 1995 and we paid $62.75/point. Let me know if you want me to look up the exact date that our sale closed.

Thanks for the info Towncrier. I'll add your date to the list for the "future". I think some folks were arguing over what they paid and when so I just went for approximate times in some places. ;)

UPDATE: When I went to plug your info into my chart I saw that I already had 7/1/95 as the official date that the price went to .75.

Pam - I was looking at the earlier posts in this thread and they still listed Fall '95. I know that other posters have referred to this thread as "gospel", so that's why I posted a reply this morning. BillPA and Caskbill have both used the older version of your chart. Thanks again for putting this chart together. It is an interesting piece of DVC history.

Since this thread was referenced in a current one, I thought I would bump it...

I know Rich, it's crazy. I'm wondering how BCV will fly with less than 40 years on the contract. (In looking through old papers I did read that DVD can build resorts that do not have to be part of DVC. Maybe they will be coming up with "DVC II".)

Funny. We bought in Sept 2002 BCV for $60, (actually $70 but got the first years points and rented them). Guess it worked out. :cool1:

How did you buy at BCV for $60 a point? Because we also bought in 2002 from DVC and we paid $87 a point, and I know resale has never been that low for BCV.

Pre construction price '90 was $48.00 per point, free ticket admission for 10 years and double points first use year.

I am pretty sure that is correct, I just came across the documents a couple months ago. I will check tonight for sure. I do know I struck the deal while at BWV and then decided to not do it later. But in Sept I got a call I could still do it for the previously agreed price. They also had some deal where you could stay at a Deluxe resort or get cash back AND get the first years points. Now you have me courious.

According to our records, we paid $62.50 per point for our first contract in 1997 and $65 per point within the next year for the second one. I was surprised to see the $62.75 price, because our records indicate $62.50.

you know we bought in 2003 not 2002 and we still paid 87 pp. :sad1:

That still beats $98 per point (or even $90 per point with the current incentive).

I sure wish I woulda been able to get in on that $40 per point for pre-construction at OKW and 10 years of free tickets. Oh well I was a freshman in high school back then and couldn't have cared less about Disney. :rolleyes1 Actually at that point (1990) I had never even been to Disney...

Just imagine what the prices for DVC will be in 2010! And how many more there might be!

For sure, I was just saying how it is funny that at the time (on this thread) it was a in question if BCV would fly or not and how well it has turned out.

That is pretty amazing. Disney was charging different people different prices. In October of '92, my best friends bought at $51 per point and I almost added on at $51 per point.

I find that very difficult to believe. I know for an absolute fact that in October of '92 the price was getting ready to go up, but was definitely, beyond the shadow of any doubt at all, $51 per point in October of '92.

It is possible that prorated dues added some, but dues were under $3 per point back then, so that can't be the difference....no, the price was $51 in October of '92 for sure.

Creeping socialism was seen hundreds of years ago when James Madison said: "I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

We bought in May 92 and it was $52

Gail, I just was in touch with someone from the old Prodigy days. I'm glad to see some of us "old dvc'ers" are still around. Still have the hard hat? We should get a thread about remember when and see what we can come up with from the early days. Remember Cleary's Tree?
