I am looking at buying a Kindle. Is Amazon the best (only?) place to buy them? Are there ever any deals on them?

I got this from Dealnews.com

Kindle Fire HD at All-Time Low Price Points

Many industry analysts assume that Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablets are priced near the manufacturing cost, which would mean that Amazon doesn't make much money, if any, from the sales. Likely as a result, we typically haven't seen large or frequent discounts on these tablets. However, last month Amazon announced that it would cut prices on its entire fleet of 8.9" Fire HD Special Offers tablets. Prices now start at $269 for the base 16GB Wifi version, and although we've seen that particular model for less before, in general, each model is now at or near the lowest price we've seen — making it a good time to give the Fire HD a try.

I have seen several deals lately on refurbished models if you don't mind that. I get a daily email from brads deals and have seen at least 3 different deals in the last few weeks.

If you are interested, I have a Kindle Fire I am looking to sell. It's not an HD one, but is brand new. I got it for the family but we are too used to the iPad and not one of us likes it. I thought my two year old would like books on it but it turns out digital books are not for her! (Lol). Bought it in February and I think we've used it maybe three times. I also have a pink Otterbox case for it and a rapid charger. 8GB, wifi, 7" LCD.

I'd like $185 for all three items which is 30% off of what I paid.

PM me if you are interested.

If you don't want want new, Cowboom often sells off stuff like that for a pretty decent savings.

The deal in the post above sounds pretty sweet actually.

I think I've been seeing emails lately for around $90,maybe bradsdeals? or cowboom?

I saw that cowboom had them for $85. Some are in better shape than others, some come with cables and stuff, others don't, but you DO get to pick the one you want.

Thank you for the offer! I understand about the iPad...we are iPad users too!;) The Kindle is for my 10 year old that reads nonstop. I think the Fire is more than what we need in this case. I bet you will be able to sell quickly!

We have both a regular Kindle (cheapest one available) and a Kindle fire. For reading the plain old regular kindle is WAY better. It looks more like paper and doesn't make your eyes as tired. I read 3 books in a series this week and the last one was only on the fire (my Dh hadn't transfered it yet)... so I read it on the fire and I had to keep putting it down because I was getting a headache. I bought mine last year new from Amazon for a little over $50 (they were having a deal for Prime users or credit card holders).

Thanks for sharing this!! I know DS would LOVE a Fire but we already have issues with too much "screen" time. I know he will love a regular Kindle and there won't be any temptations to just get on the Internet!

I don't know about deals, but you can buy them other places than Amazon - new.

I have bought them at Target and Staples. I think I've seen them at Best Buy and maybe Walmart?

Yeah Best Buy sells them. I bought a KF 7" a few months ago, I bought it through Amazon though. I also finally got the Prime Membership, as there are a few perks that work hand in hand w/ the Kindle. There's a free lending library, not exactly sure how it works, but it is fun to browse and see what looks interesting. So far I haven't even purchased a Kindle book, but borrow a lot through my public library and the Overdrive app. So far it's pretty cool.

I got a kindle fire on ebay for $99 it was a referb but it looks brand new. I'm planning on getting another in a few weeks.
