Hoping for some practical experience out there. This can be your own car or a rental. What car has worked best for you hauling a standard scooter without a trailer and such? I believe it needs to be an SUV or minivan, but I could be wrong. Let me know your thoughts. I realize I need to take the scooter apart into 4-5 pieces depending on the model. Thank you.

We have a Chevy Traverse and have used it to haul my scooter. We are planning to fly down this time though and rent so I'm curious to the answer to this as well. From what I'm reading most SUVs and minivans will work to haul a standard size scooter (with some disassembly).

this comes from talking with a coworker as she puts her scooter in her car after work. hers fits in medium to small car trunk I can not remember what type of car she drives.

It depends on what you are defining as a standard scooter, the most common offsite rental models seem to be:
  • Pride Victory 10/10.2
  • Pride GoGo Sport
  • Pride Maxima
Also, depends on where you are renting from, for example, if it is the Pride Victory 10 from Gold Mobility, they have the Captains chair that takes more room.

And how many people are in your party?

If it is the GoGo Sport, it should fit in almost any car, including a Nissan Leaf without taking away any seats.

If it is the Pride Victory 10/10.2, any vehicle where the back seats can be folded down and is a hatchback, minivan, SUV, etc. These can fit in the back of a minivan with the back row folded down without any disassembly, just fold the seat down and this is including the ones from Gold Mobility. Although you may choose to remove the seat and/or batteries to make it lighter to lift.

I know from personal experience that a GoGo traveler Elite or Sport model will fit in the trunk of a Toyota Camry. If you mean a car that will fit a scooter that's not disassembled, however, I don't know of any.

I had the Triple Lindy from Walker Mobility and it fit in the back of my Subaru Outback once disassembled
