Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

When staying at Swan/Dolphin, and using their shuttle to Disney Springs, what is needed to get on the bus? Do guests need something to present to board?

Just trying to sort out what I need to keep up with.

You don't need anything. Just get on and sit down.

@DarrenWasHere to be aware that the SDR bus drops you off at the Disney Springs West Side Transfer Center which is over near Cirque de Soleil / House of Blues & the Watermelon Parking lot, the Disney buses drop you off at the Disney Springs Town Center near the Orange parking lot / Wolfgang Puck & the Coke store. I was used to the old east side drop off near the World of Disney.
We're going to see about doing the new Meta Quest VR thing so probably taking the SDR one way since it's down there

We’ve never stayed at either, but the Dolphin has double beds, while the Swan has queens. That alone would make the Swan our choice - unless it were only DH and myself and we could book a king. They share the pool complex and transportation options.

My family is deciding between the Swan or the Dolphin. Can you tell me your favorite and why? Thank you!
We’ve stayed at both and I like the queen beds more at swan but I prefer the dining options at the dolphin. We like the grab and go at dolphin, fuel a lot. The fins lobby bar is very nice along with the Fountain casual sit down restaurant. We also like the vibe at the dolphin more. The lobby is a bit more upbeat. I think the swan is a lot smaller than the dolphin. We’ve never felt the size of the dolphin before except on our last stay. We had an end of hall room and we felt like we had walked an eternity. But we did have a corner room which gave us more space. The location of both hotels is great and fairly equal when it comes to getting to the boat launch. The buses are shared, also shared with swan reserve, so not much difference there and I also believe room service is shared among swan, dolphin and the SR. I usually go with which resort has the lower rate since the differences are minor and we can easily go back and forth between both hotels. They’re not small hotels but they’re not the size of Caribbean beach resort so it’s easy to get around.

I'm team Dolphin. King room with a sofa sleeper as close to the pools as I can get. I wouldn't do the dbl beds, but I've heard they are not much smaller than queens. Doesn't matter, I wouldn't do dbls, UNLESS the best King / Sleeper room was too far away from the pools. The Pools are the deciding factor for us. Our decision is easy, since we go to the pool complex at least once per day, usually 2x per day. The rest of the shared amenities are not as important to take into consideration. Longer walks being semi damp several times per day is what we try to mitigate. Walking to have a meal when you're dry is not a big deal. But again, we are 126% going to the pool at LEAST once per day, and usually twice. The Swan pool is nice as hell, but if you have kids, there's no way to avoid the fact that you are going to the Dolphin's pool complex. It's a short walk, but it can weigh on you if you are doing it every day and going to parks as well.

If we did not plan on being at the pool daily, we'd go with Swan. It's smaller, and since it has less retail/food, the main floor is "generally" calmer. Dolphin's lobby and ground floor can seem like a maze (but it's really not, once you figure it out.)

I like both a LOT, but team Dolphin here - pools are the key attribute for us.

Just back from one night stay at Dolphin. After many tries, my ressie finally was recognized on MDE. By the next night of extra hours the gatekeepers iPads didn’t show the ressie. Not a big issue, I just showed my mobile key and was waved through. I didn’t think more about it. The next morning, I tried to book an ILL at 7 am and I couldn’t as my ressie was not tied in on MDE. I’m very sure the ressie did register at one point so maybe the trick is to call in? Anyway, don’t rely on the ressie staying in MDE if registered online.

I’m a little nervous since Disney announced that Genie + purchase will have to be added day of after June 8th. I have a package at the Dolphin booked through Disney with 5 day hoppers and Genie +. I’m worried because the tickets show up as "park planning passes" in MDE right now. Please reassure me that the Genie+ will be there when I check in in December.

Because you booked a refundable package through Disney, you won’t receive actual tickets until check-in (because it’s refundable). You may have to activate the tickets through guest services at your first park as well. As long as your park planning passes show “and Disney Genie+ Service”, you’ll be just fine. They won’t take it away. They’re just not allowing pre-purchases after June 8th.

As others have said, i think it depends on the makeup of your family and how valuable to you the queen vs double beds would be. In my opinion, the Dolphin is better than the Swan in pretty much everything except for bed size and bathroom layout (most Swan rooms have an extra sink outside the bathroom). Just the wife and I, we pick the Dolphin every time. Travelling with our 15 and 12 year old boys, we need 2 rooms so we pick the Dolphin every time. When the kids were younger and we could be by with one room, we wanted the extra bad size and went Swan.

The reason you only see "park planning" passes is because you don't really have tickets yet (they add the "park planning" passes so you are able make park reservations). We had a package through Disney Travel with Hoppers & Genie+, and they gave us our actual tickets when we checked in. You will need to manually link the tickets in MDE once you get them, but that should be it. We never had to "activate" them at guest services; we just linked them ourselves in MDE and everything was all good. We never had any trouble tapping in to parks, or booking Genie+ LL.

I prefer the Swan. Smaller, more compact. I prefer the queen vs double beds and the double bathroom vanities,

Remember, if you are going to use the common pool complex, it is about equidistant to both hotels, If using the Dolphin lap pol or the Swan lap pool, each is closer to their respective hotels. If you are going to the common complex, The Grotto, and staying at the Dolphin, make sure to request a room in the west. If in the east, it can be a hike, Does not make a lot of difference at the Swan.

The Swan is my favorite because of its smaller size and less busy lobby/ check in/ common areas. It's also nice after a long day at the parks to have the shorter walk to your room. There are some areas at the Dolphin that feel like a long trek...
My daughter prefers the Dolphin because of the Fountain and the laundromat, among the other restaurants.
Child care is also at the Dolphin, if that's something you might ever need.
Generally, the Dolphin has more parks/ fireworks views rooms altho the Swan has some.
You really can't go wrong with either one.

Does the Dolphin have shampoo and conditioner as separate products or is it shampoo and conditioner all in one? Going through my shopping list!
