Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

I received an email this morning from AMEX travel that my upcoming reservation at the Dolphin (Sept. 7-12th) was cancelled and my full payment was refunded. I wasn't moved to the Swan, my reservation was just cancelled. I assume this is because I had booked through a "travel agent".
So.....I went online to book at the Swan while on hold with the resort to verify that my original reservation was really cancelled. I went to the Swan's website, selected a standard room 2 Queen No View and booked it with 24 hours to cancel.

Confirmation of my new reservation came to my email and I opened it (still on hold with the hotel) to see that my reservation was confirmed for a Standard 2 Double No View room at the DOLPHIN! UGH, what???

Finally spoke with reservations who confirmed the original cancellation, cancelled the new Dolphin reservation that the system booked in error and booked me at the Swan and ended up paying an extra $350 total. Ridiculous. Thankfully I had arrived at work an hour early to catch up on paperwork so other than ignoring the VERY early patients' comments in the lobby, "Maybe she can see me early, I have a busy day" "I can't believe I've been waiting 15 minutes, she never keeps me waiting" it's all going to be ok. Thankfully I refrained from yelling "ARE YOU SERIOUS? YOU WERE 45 MINUTES EARLY!!!!"

Oh no! What a mess, I’m sorry! I am booked at Dolphin for Sept 5-8 and haven’t heard anything. In fact, I have corresponded with one of their room controllers who told me they have been getting ready for this weekend and will be opening. Eek, maybe I should double check again! (Maybe it’s just res that go beyond the weekend that they’re cancelling?)

So after reading some of these threads it prompted me to call the dolphin. We were originally booked at Beach club for October 17 or yacht club I honestly can’t even remember now and When storm along bay didn’t really have a reopening day the dolphin came out with the annual passholder rate we decided to switch because it was $2000 less for the reservation for the week. The young lady I spoke to was very vague on the phone today when I asked her if the dolphin would be closed she said “as long as you have a reservation It shouldn’t be.” Really wouldn’t give me any straight answers if I was going to be flipped off property if they closed again or to the swan she just said the dolphins on a really strange opening schedule they’re gonna be closed for a while then open it was a very bizarre conversation left me feeling a little uneasy. I might cancel it now book with the 40% Disney rate

Well that would be the normal process for a third-party booking but I am not sure why you had to pay more at the Swan or did I miss something in the translation?

Oh and the patient being 45 minutes early gave me a laugh today... the old I am early so everyone should be early...

Just spoke to on-site Guest relations again and they told me Dolphin is definitely opening this Friday the 4th for the weekend, and will be on a modified schedule, only opening for weekends. So same thing that I keep hearing. I hope they don’t cancel my res for this weekend, because I already let my Swan res go and rates are way higher now if I have to re-book last minute...

I can't get over the low rates, even in this environment. We booked something for easter week. Not sure if we're going, but I grabbed the rate while I could.
I agree. Even with the resort fee and taxes, I'm paying at least $40 less per night than I would at the cheapest Disney resort for my week and it's in a great location!

Does anyone know if the dolphin and swan hotels are a part of the select hotels that will allow annual passholders to make theme park reservations throughout their whole visit?

Yes. I'm an AP and when I booked yesterday it allowed me to make theme park reservations for my whole trip from the resort guests bucket.

My mom and I are planning a resort only visit for a night this fall. Easing our way back into vacation mode after this year and plan to hang by the pool, walk the boardwalk, and just enjoy seeing something outside of our own backyard. Since it will only be for one night, we'd like to arrive earlier in the day prior to check-in. Will the front desk hold luggage, similarly to Disney resorts? We haven't stayed at the Swan or Dolphin before but got a great deal.

How soon after making the reservation were you able to link it to MDE? I booked this afternoon for a trip next week. I am still getting a message that my reservation can't be found. It does say it can take up to 72 hours, but I don't want to wait that long to make park reservations...

I booked yesterday afternoon and I was able to link it on MDE first thing this morning. I bet in the morning you'll be good to go!

You can check-in, drop your bags at Bell Services at any time on your date but your room may not be available until after 4 PM. Welcome to team Swan & Dolphin.

The boardwalk area is really quite but you might consider a ride on the Disney Sklyliner from the Epcot International Gateway to the Rivera or beyond. No Epcot admission is required as the Skyliner station is out of the IG.

Do you mean that they already charged your card and it was more than you expected, or that the Marriott site showed a deposit amount of more than one night when you booked?

If it's the first, then don't forget about the $30/day resort fee and also taxes, which can add up. And obviously the pre-paid rates require full payment up front.

If it's the second, I'd say wait until it hits your credit card before you worry. There's a bug in the Marriott website that shows incorrect deposit amounts. When we booked, the website showed a deposit amount that was as much as 4 nights worth, but when it hit our credit card a few days later, it was only one night's worth.

Thank you. It was the second.

Did you call the local number or did you end up taking with the Marriott call center? You might call the 407.934.4000 number and ask for in-house reservations.

Definitely check with them - that is who I’ve been speaking to and getting assurance that they are opening for this weekend tomorrow.

It looks like the Dolphin will be closed all of October, 2/3 of November, but open all of the month of December, as it currently stands.

Update: Since this was first posted, the calendars appear to have been updated; September through November now available for check-in on Friday and Saturday nights, starting 09/18/2020-11/21/2020. After that, all dates in November, December, January, etc. show as being available.
