Coffee question…

Does the S/D still have the resort mugs for sale?

If they do, can you still fill them up at the coffee bars in the lobby in the am, or do you have to walk to the picabu from the swan. I don't really like the in room coffee, I'd love a nice BIG hot fresh cup of joe in the am!

Thanks!

Yes, they have refillable resort mugs for sale for 12.99. Not sure if there is anywhere to fill at the Swan...

My understanding is that they now have two mugs, one for cold, one for hot, each 12.99. :confused3 Can't verify for sure, as I have never used one, I like the free, unlimited Starbucks in the room.

There was only one in June, unless there were 2 and I didn't see the other.

Dan, can you comment if there is a place for refills at the Swan? I only stay at the Dolphin.

I only read about the 2 mugs a couple times here on the dis. Never saw them. I have it here in the OP, mostly a copy and paste initially from MOM POPPINS' prior S/D threads

...At Picabu the refillable mugs with all of the resort restaurant logos on them are now for COLD beverages ONLY. If you want refillable coffee or tea, you must buy the new silver-toned hot mug with the javabar logo on them....

I stay at the Swan most of the time and as far as I know, Picabu is the refill place, ck. Even though all of both resorts' restaurant locations are printed on the mug, I think only Picabu (a bit misleading I would say)

Thanks Dan. I used this mug in June for both hot and cold beverages. I would be shocked if any Picabu employee would be knowledgeable enough (or care enough) to stop you if different mugs did indeed exist...

Disclaimer: It's been a while since I've remembered to bring my mug back with me (lately I've just popped down for 1-2 nights).

I have one of those plastic mugs with all the restaurant logos on it. At one point when the silvertone "Java Bar" mugs appeared, I was told I could no longer use the plastic mug for hot beverages (tea) as it was for cold drinks only. I don't have recent experience with hot beverage refill attempts, though.

Picabu is indeed the only self-service refill station. However, I was able to present my mug at the following restaurants for free fountain drinks (not necessarily filled in the mug, however, and I don't know if the policy has changed):

bluezoo: presented while having dinner and I was brought diet coke at no charge
Fresh: presented while having breakfast and I don't remember if I had diet coke or possibly iced tea
Garden Grove: presented at the podium in the morning and either the hostess or a server went to the fountain and filled my mug with diet coke
Kimonos: presented at the bar while waiting for sushi takeout I'd ordered and they filled my mug with hot green tea

As always, policies may have changed and YMMV.

I saw people getting their mugs refilled at Splash in the Swan. But you can't really get your morning fix at Splash.

We are staying at the Swan and are considering a counter service meal at the Wilderness Lodge. Can I drive/park there? If not, what is the best way to get there? Thanks!!

Not sure if this has been posted, but I know some like heads up on cheer competitions. My DD went to the one last year at the Dolphin. The cheerleaders overtook the lobby and places to eat during the weekend.

It was a fun competition. But just for those who like the heads up it is March 7-8 this year. http://www.allstarchallenge.com/return-to-atlantis---orlando.html

It's the only time I have been to the Dolphin and Swann and was nice to explore. We also went over to the Boardwalk to eat (lines too long at Dolphin) lunch and liked exploring there as well.

I still wouldn't pay the price to stay there. We stayed off-site and drove to the competition but by the time we arrived at like 10 AM the parking lot was full and we were redirected to alternate parking over at the Boardwalk area.

Yes, there is a large parking lot out front of the Lodge. We drove from the Dolphin to eat at Whispering Canyon. Not sure if I would drive over there just for Counter Service, but I did dine at the Roaring Fork after taking the boat over from MK and it is slightly better than Picabu.

I'm interested in anyone who's stayed in a renovated room at the Swan yet.

I just booked one for next March - guaranteed balcony renovated room. - on points. I am sure it will be much better than our room we had (for just one night though) last March. That was the worst room we had ever had there!

We got to "break in" one of the newly renovated rooms this past Saturday! The first, and probably only, time I have ever been the very first guest in a room. We were in a standard double queen room. I thought it was very attractive, the decor is somewhat spare but fresh and soothing -- soft grey/blue/beige palette. Now I wish I had taken pictures. I looooove the bedding of course. The rooms were definitely in need of sprucing up, and I like the changes. :thumbsup2

I know you can park at other resorts with a table service reservation but wasn't sure about counter service. We are going at Christmas time and I am looking for somewhere to eat dinner while looking at the Christmas decorations on our arrival day (long car ride - 1 preschooler and 1 toddler - probably need something quick). I am tenatively planning to go to the Grand Floridian for either a quick dinner or snacks one night where the MK closes early for the Christmas party. Hope this makes sense! If it is too hard to get to the WL or another resort we may check out one of the ones closer to the Swan.

How fun!

I read that the bathroom was changed too, with a glass shower door instead of a shower/tub combo. Don't know if that sounds right!

Hi Everyone,

We are staying at the Swan for the first time at the end of December. We usually stay at the Dolphin. We are SPG members. Do you guys know if all of the 2 queen bed rooms have been renovated? If not, can you request one in advance? We are gold members, not sure if that helps!?!?

Thanks!

Bonnie

That makes total sense. The Swan is a Westin and all of the other Westin's that we have been in have the glass enclosed shower. Would love to be in one of the renovated rooms! :cool1:

The renovated room we stayed in at the Swan had a shower curtain, but it did have the nice big rain showerhead and a wand. Given the size of bathroom, I'm not sure there would be room for a door-style shower.

I'm pretty sure you can park there to eat, table service or counter, or even just to visit. Decorations at WL are fantastic, so I certainly recommend it. I found getting to and parking at WL quite easy.

I would definitely call SPG or the resort directly. I was booking with points, and a room category appeared that I hadn't seen before. It was listed as Deluxe (not standard) and indicated I could call to see if a points stay was available in that category. It stated it was a remodeled room. When I called, I asked and it was only 600 more points for the week for this category (and it was guaranteed to have a balcony as well). So instead of 60,000 points for the week, it was 6,600 points (well worth the extra for a balcony and remodeled room!).

I am so glad to try the Swan again - the room we were in for one night last March was in such bad shape (but it was only one night, so not too bad, we arrived late and checked out early the next morning to walk over and check in at the Boardwalk Villas).

I am excited to see any photos of the newer rooms! I don't particularly care about the view (as long as it's not overlooking a dumpster or something), but really like a balcony for fresh air.
