We're thinking of adding a Walmart to our adventures, or at least place it on my list... is it comparable to a Big W or K-Mart with a heap more stuff and groceries?

We will probably go to Target, so would it even be necessary to visit Walmart?

And finally, for those that have been to a Walmart in LA or Anaheim, any to avoid or would be preferred to visit?

The Target in Anaheim is pretty ordinary. I haven't been to a Walmart in Anaheim but have been to a number elsewhere. They are much like a Big W but with lots more especially the Super Stores.

I have always found Walmart better value than target especially for things like DVDs, books and toys. Just like Big W but on steroids, especially if you go to a super store. I can easily spend an hour or 2 at Walmart :rotfl:

^ What she said!
I'm living over in the US right now and have to say, going to Walmart is a lot of fun. People from the US think I'm crazy when I say I want to go to Walmart for the heck of it, but having worked at one of the major discount retailers back home, it's kind of fun haha. Just seeing different things that we don't have back home, the guns...(air rifles I think) or the massive bags of lollies and whatnot. I've also been to Target which seemed much like the Australian ones, only larger (of course, everything is bigger here) but Walmart is such a novelty for me!

I think we probably visited Walmart about 10 times in our 14 day stay. We love it! We need food...Walmart. We need a phone....Walmart. We need to see crazy American people....Walmart:rotfl2:

We did go to one Walmart that I wouldn't recommend. We decided to buy all of our take-home lollies etc on the last day of our trip on the way to the airport. We typed in Walmart in the GPS and followed. We headed along Martin Luther king Jr Boulevard. It got more and more scary as we headed towards Walmart. We got there and my husband decided he better stay with the luggage in the car. The kids and I went in and felt quite a bit like outsiders. We were literally the only white people in there. A girl at the check-out was arguing with a check out guy that he'd left something out of her bags. She swore, he just laughed.

It was an experience we'll never forget! I think we were in South Central LA!!!

By the way, they did have this really cool escalator. You put your trolley on one trolley escalator, and you travel up the people escalator next to it as your trolley goes up. Very cool.

It's no wonder they see us as weird from the outside is it? :rotfl: We're discussing going "site seeing" to a department store.

I love Walmart. I think they're great because not only is it cheap shopping, but you can also get all the US foods that we can't get back home. :thumbsup2

The Walmart at Anaheim Plaza is good (it's not a Super one though). They also have other shops in the plaza area, too (Baskin and Robbins icecream - yum!). I found that Walmart was more interesting and fun than Target. The Targets there are similar to Aussie Target/Kmart, around the same prices too, whereas Walmart is excitingly cheap!

I love Walmart!
The super stores seem to have everything and much cheaper Target

Thanks all -found a Super Walmart in Porter Ranch which is about 20 minutes north of where we're staying in the first week. The centre has a Toys R Us and a Best Buy, In and Out and a few other stores as well . On the list.

I cant wait to go into a Walmart, we didnt get a chance to do it on our last trip but it is a must on our next one. After what has been said I will make sure we go to a super walmart though. I will just have to work out if we will do it in LA, Las Vegas or Orlando, guess have to do some research on where there is a Super one. ::yes::

I love Walmart. And if you want to see some strange people, go to www.peopleofwalmart.com :D

When I was at the Walmart in Utah a couple of years back, there was a guy working there unpacking groceries and was giving a voice to the cans of beans he was taking out of a box! "Let me out, Let me out":rotfl:

Target is good too. They have a few brands like Mossimo, etc really cheap.

As for Inn'n'Out burger -- yum!

I loved Walmart went to three different ones when i was in the USA. The superstores are defiantly the way to go and they are nothing like we have here in Aus.

lol I remember one time we were at Walmart late at night and a worker was stoking the freezers, no one else around him, and he was yelling and cursing himself out! Always love to see the interesting folk at Walmart :rotfl:

Another vote for Walmart. We always go several times each trip. My teenage DD buys bras in Walmart, she will not even consider buying any here at home. Lots of fun stuff, much better than Target. :yay:
