Walmart is Closed Today

As Poohbear123 said, Target and Publix closed and Kmart open at this end of Miami too.

Who remembers the old days when nothing was open on a holiday. ....... Things certainly have changed.:D
I remember when everything was closed on Sunday - gas stations, pharmacies, everything.

Oh yeah, I remember when everything was closed on Sundays too....it was referred to as the Blue Law.

Our CVS, Stop and Shop and Shaws were all open today...
The most important store that was open today?
HOME DEPOT!!!

Our Home Depot, Old Navy and Kmart was open, as well as STop and Shop and Shaws. I saw that CVS and Walgreens were also open...Walmart was closed though in our neck of the woods.

Paramus, NJ still has their stores closed every Sunday. ;)

Sounds like it is a local Walmart decision whether to be open or closed.

I think everyone can do without the stores being open a few days a year to allow the employees time to be with their families on a holiday. To have a store like Wal-Mart open 12+ hours with a full staff so that 10% of the normal customers can come by (maybe just to look since everything else is closed) just seems unfair to the employees.

Many stores run by Orthodox Jews often close early on Fridays (when the sun sets early in the day) and aren't open on Saturday. They are closing to observe their religion even though their customers may not be Jewish. They are also closed on their High Holy Days. Private businesses don't have to worry about seperation of Church and State.

I went to Publix to pick up DS's meds and found hardly any cars in the parking lot. Then I remembered that I saw a sign saying they would be closed. Hmmm...Eckerd's was open. One reason to get meds at the drug store and not the food store's pharmacy.

I work at a Dillon's store (division of Kroger) and I worked today, 11 to 3 in the garden center. I know that Wal-mart was closed because people kept coming in and telling me that we were the only store open today.

It must be. We have two Walmarts in town -- one was closed, but the other one was open.

Albertsons and Homeland were both open for a few hours, but closed early.

I can't tell you what stores were open or closed. I try not to shop on Sundays or go out to restaurants on Sundays. It is a day of rest for me and I wish it was a day of rest for others also. I have to say it really is a challenge to think ahead and make sure I have everything I need before Sunday.

everything around here was open, at least for a little while. probably b/c we are a more urban area and there is a high percentage of non-christians where i live.

I work at The Sports Authority, and it was open.

I believe that stores should be closed on holidays. I was forced to work on Christmas Eve (missing church with my family, we go early because of young siblings) as well as yesterday on Easter. I think this is crazy. I think that people can go without their baseball bats for one day.

Granted I live in a town with a large Jewish population, but still...the Jewish employees got off for the first night of Passover, yet we are forced to work Easter. Can we have ONE day off? My goodness. I'm a high school student with a PART TIME job, (one where they force me to work insane hours). I don't need to work on Easter. If anything stores like TSA should be closed to give the employees a break.

I also think theres a big difference between having a pharmacy/grocery store open on Easter than a sporting goods store.

Several years ago I was a clerk in a video store, and I remember having to work Christmas Day the first year I was there. The owner was in prison, and instructed the manager to be open 365 days a year. At least the store didn't open until noon, so I could be at home with my family for the morning hours and an early dinner, but still. We had very few people come in, they only made enough money to cover my wages for the day. They still had to pay the electric bill for the day too, so actually lost money.

I don't think anything should be open on major holidays like Christmas, New Year's Day, Easter and Thanksgiving except for of course hospitals, police stations, fire stations, and the like. Oh, maybe a few gas stations as a lot of people travel on holidays, but regular stores like Wal-Mart or K-Mart, or worse yet video stores, have no need to be open. It's just store-owner greed.
