Walking shoes that aren’t sneakers?

Going on a two week trip to Europe and will be walking miles every day. I’d like to have some shoes that look cute with my skirts and dresses that can still go the distance walking everywhere everyday on our big adventure. Any ideas?

For true all day walking I use Sketchers or Merrell mary janes. Bonus that the straps can be adjusted for comfort on the flight over or if your feel swell a bit from heat or walking.

I also like Clarks and Born for sandals.

Birkenstock makes a mary jane style shoe (can't recall the name but it starts with an "A") that offers excellent support, a leather lining as well as exterior (breathes better than most man made products), and flexible rubber sole. Excellent walking shoe that comes in several colours past the normal black and brown...pretty fashion forward with a bit more support than the leather or suede cork soled Arizona that is regularly featured in fashion shoots, internationally.

Not sure if by walking you mean light hiking in the country or city touring but either of the above would suffice with the mary jane style being better for country perambulations and the Arizona standing up well to city walking.

I know you said you haven't a need for sneakers but Easy Spirit's sneaker mule is sort of in the middle style wise and as well as walking around the city I've occasionally hiked in them successfully:

I buy 2 pairs every year and they come in wild and crazy colours as well as more sedate ones.

ABEO's, Easy Spirit, Merrell's...not a sneaker person and these are all the comfort sandal/shoe brands I wear.

This may sound weird, but have you ever tried those platform flip flops where the entire sole is made of foam? Very surprisingly, these are the only shoes I could wear the entire day, and the slight heel and the support of the foam were the best! People looked at me like I was loony for having on platforms, but whatever works!

I have high arches. The problem with most "cute" shoes for me is that they are lower cut around the toes. I have learned the hard way that I need a shoe that crosses over the top of the arch (boy that's hard to describe!). If it doesn't, I end up doing weird things with my toes to keep the shoes on, which is uncomfortable after any length of time. Or they slip around more than they should, causing hot spots and blisters.

I can usually find Sketchers that fit the bill, so that's what I usually wear on trips. But I think the brand is less important, and the over-the-arch thing is really the important part - I've gotten some lower cut Sketchers that ended up being too low cut to work well.

I only wear Ecco brand shoes. They are European, stylish (some look weird by my standards) but are very comfortable and durable. Some of their shoes are cheaper than other models. I find the more expensive ones are worth the price. I try on ones in a store (there are Ecco stores in many high end malls), then look for overstock or new returns on Ebay for a fraction of the cost.

Also look into Ecco Track shoes if you have a man in your life. They are the only shoe my husband wears. They are waterproof, durable (lasts for years with every day wear) and look dressy.

We do often replace the insoles with high end shock absorbing insoles. These insoles are great and can improve the comfort of just about any shoe if the shoe has room for them. If there is not room for a full insole, gel heel pads under the insole helps a lot.

I over pronate and shoes slip off the back of my foot if they don't cover the top of the foot. So I know what you are saying. That's why I like flip flops or clog style shoes. Or something with a strap

Gah! So many great suggestions! Thank you! I do have a pair of Clarks that are cute and super lightweight that are a couple of years old. I got them in a cute coral color which they don't come in any longer. Obviously I want something with good support, etc, but I'm also trying not to break the bank as I am saving hard for this trip. I have big feet 10/11 and somewhat wide feet, though not terribly. I know I'll thank myself a thousand times for good quality shoes though.

Jambu or J-Bu are cute and comfortable with skirts. Some skechers aren't too bad, but not supportive enough for my taste.
Not familiar with these. They give you good support? I just looked them up and they have some cute ones! $58 on zappos is something I can live with! JBU is the same company?

I love Mary Janes but I think i'll want to wear socks?

A lot of city walking but some light hiking as well. Mostly city though. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes- I found the brand back when they were jeep brand lol- they have different shoe models, some I love some not so much. So a good return policy is important till you find your shoe
