Walking on Disneyland Dr. at night

We are planning on staying at the newish Westin during our next trip. Never stayed on "that side" of the area, will obviously be walking up and down Disneyland Drive. Is this a safe walk late at night? We plan on staying until closing some nights so would be walking back to the hotel past midnight.

Relatively safe. Fairly well lit. You won’t be the only ones walking. There will be homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk/benches.

As in any unfamiliar area, keep your group together and be alert. You’ll be fine.

We stayed at the Westin in June and felt totally safe walking back. As others have said- lots of others are walking too. All but the last little bit when you cross Katella is on Disney property. We did not encounter any homeless during our 3 day stay but there is one bus stop/shelter on the walk.

We loved the Westin- enjoy your stay!

There are no benches on Disneyland Dr. I frequently go to CVS or 7/11 from the DLH or Grand, and along Disneyland Dr, I have never encountered homeless sleeping on the ground. I do see them on Katella and Harbor, but not on Disneyland Dr.

To the OP, I feel safe as a 60+ woman doing this alone. There are generally Anaheim PD stationed on Disneyland Dr, at the light to the parking lot between PPH and Katella. That said, always watch your surroundings.

Just be extra careful crossing Katella, cars go about 80 to 100+MPH late at night (not joking) as it's huge straight-a-way street and very little police can do in CA. Green light to cross means nothing, look up and down street and do NOT lead with stroller. Adult-stroller/child-Adult always.

Sorry not to sound overbearing- living local I see so many parents waiting to cross with their strollers over edge of sidewalk corner into street or young children bolting across as soon as walk sign lights up.

Thanks everyone, sounds safe! They are still not letting people cut through GCH on the way into the parks, right? But I'm assuming I can cut through on my way OUT of the parks, would that be correct?

Yes, we went out that way every time without problems.

Yep! You can go out, just not in. However you can cut through Paradise Pier hotel though (walk in front doors, past front desk, out back doors towards parking garage).... and then up towards DL Hotel into Downtown Disney security check point.

THANKS! That was going to be my next question as I was looking at the maps and was confused as to the best way to make my way to DD security.

I guess taking rideshare is not worth it and unnecessary? The "closest" they could drop me off is near the DD security check point and I'd still have to make the walk through DD.

I don't think you gain anything by going through the PPH when en route to the parks but you certainly can do that if you want. Since you're pretty much walking straight back to the same place you would be walking on the sidewalk it doesn't seem like it saves much? We would just watch the lights and either cross right before PPH/at DTD parking entrance or at the GCH (but turning away from GCH towards PPH/DLH/DTD entrance of course), then just keep walking to the back of the GCH parking lot and up to DTD security by DLH. Super fast.

I do not think you would gain anything calling a rideshare, especially from the hotel itself as there is median there that means the driver will have to exit going east on Katella (which is not the direction you want to go).

Stayed at the Westin the weekend before Thanksgiving and had no issues walking to or from Downtown Disney after a late night in the park (or a few late nights at Napa Rose!). On our way to the park one morning, at about 6:30am, we did encounter a homeless person with a blanket over them curled up sleeping against a hedge across from the PP hotel, but he didn't disturb us and we didn't disturb him. We had a fabulous stay at the Westin and the walk was quite peaceful and lovely compared to the Harbor side. Enjoy your stay! :)

That Westin is GORGEOUS! You’re going to have an amazing time. Everyone has weighed in on the walking. Just wanted to wish a great stay. Make sure you get to the roof top bar! 🎆 🍸
