Walking in FW

Leaving tomorrow for our first stay at FW, and I have a quick question. I've read a lot about how far it is to walk to the various places around the campground, but am trying to get a better perspective. If I were at the farthest point, say the loop closest to the entrance to the campground (we're renting a cabin and it looks like most of the cabins are at that end), how long would it take to walk all the way to the other end, near the boat docks?

That would be too far of a walk if you are planning on spending the day in the parks. Just catch a bus at your loop to take you anywhere in the campground. If however you are asking about walking to simply get exercise it would be a pleasurable way to spend an hour making a circle of the campground.

If you haven't been there yet, Denise (nbodyhome) has a wonderful website with pictures of all the sights while walking in FW (she starts walking and writes where she is on her walk and takes pictures explaining what's along the way)- just click on the "read more" at the bottom of each to bring up pictures and info on exactly where she was at FW:

Lots of fun to look at and helps planning too!

Thanks for the replies. I know there are buses, but I like to walk, too. When staying at the Boardwalk or the Beach Club, I even like to walk to MGM, which is about 15 - 20 minutes.

Just for another perspective, it's roughly a mile as the crow flies from one end of The Fort to the other.

That is awesome! Good to know walking it is completely doable (and enjoyable it seems). I don't think there's anything to be askeerd of if you're healthy and can walk without difficulty. We're trying to excercise more, so a 15-20 min. walk won't kill us. I'm not fit by any means, but we hike occassionaly, and have spent entire days in big cities on foot, which required much more walking that WDW. WDW is kind of stop and go.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but this is relevent to the OP's question -- have there always been golf carts at FW? I have trouble imagining people in the 70's driving around there.

To make it in 15-20 minutes youd have to walk a pretty fast pace . I think it may be closer to 30 minutes at a normal walking pace .

I did not time it but I used a GPS to give me the mileage from the 2100 loop bus stop. From the bus stop to Settlement trading post it was .95 of a mile. From the same bus stop to the Outpost it was .75 of a mile.If you walk from the cabins follow the route that goes past the Meadows as you will not be able to walk the way the purple bus does going to the Settlement as there is not a path. I really enjoyed walking around the campground and did not find it far at all.

Thank you for the mention!!! I am still in Europe, and haven't been online as much. I head home Monday (I hope our new layout is easier, it looks like my next walk will be the monorail resort area this month, after putting up the DLP resort walk). The walk from the FW parking area is just around 20 minutes, a very nice walk.
