Sorry - bombarding questions tonight

After the Disneyland Hotel, which is the nearest in walking distance to the parks and how far - I've looked at the FAQ at the top and it says (I think) probably New York which is 10 mins walk.

Are the queues (if there is a queue) really awful for the shuttles? Is it really a scrum - worries me with a toddler and baby and pushchair.... So thought we may walk but if we've been walking all day we want to be close (but can't afford the DLH this time!) :(

Getting back on the shuttles form the parks looks an awful, awful experience!!

I was unable to get off becasue of the scrum getting on.

NY is like 10 minute walk, SL and NPB a couple more. Definitely better to walk than bus it. :)

It all depends on what time you are leaving. The buses to the offsite hotels are absolutely manic at park closing, especially when the park closes after the fireworks in the summer months but you have four hotels sharing one bus.

I think the Disney buses are not so bad as there is one bus for each hotel , also you're going at a quiet time.

But I agree with Torsie, it's much nicer to walk and its a very pleasant walk to the hotels through the Village and along the river. Even to the Santa Fe you are looking at 20 minutes maximum although it all depends how much your toddler likes walking.

Thanks for that - that was my worry about the scrum at park closing! Will see what we can sort out!

yeah i am staying in the santa fe and i am planning on walking it. my lo will be in the buggy and the thought of folding in and trying to get on the bus, then holding her if there is no seat ugh i would rather have sore feet and still have that magical disney feeling lol

The New York is definitely the second closest, but the Newport Bay and Sequoia Lodge are both only a couple of minutes more.

I've never got the shuttle, but it seems like in the time you take walking to the bus, and then queuing to get on, you could easily have walked it! Plus the walk is very pleasant anyway - I love walking through Disney Village :goodvibes

Lots of pushing, shoving, and physically jostling, to get a crowd of people on a bus.

Happens a lot at the end of the park day, as the onsite hotels have large capacity, and there is often a bit of a "scrum" at the bus stops for each hotel to get from there back to the hotels.

As has been said before though, the walk back to any of the onsite hotels is doable within 20 minutes maximum, and is a pleasant walk, through the Village and by the Disney Lake.

It is actually a sporting term from the game of rugby but has taken on a second definition which the dictionary says is : A disordered or confused situation involving a number of people.

the scrum for the buses is the huge crush at the bus doors as it pulls up and then the complete squash while your on the bus with loads and loads of people standing up pushchairs piled in! I've stayed in the Holiday Inn all 4 times i've been and having 4 hotels share one bus is quite possibly the worst idea in history! :crowded:

Don't all laugh at me but.....
What's a scrum?:confused3

It's exactly as described by the people above me.

I think it's more a European word for it than anything; as rugby's not so big in the US, the term probably isn't used as the origins of the term make little sense if you don't know anything about rugby.

We've always walked back to the hotel (Sequoia) at the end of the day. We did wait for a shuttle once (not at the end of the day but say around 5-ish pm) just for the sake of trying it and it was so busy! By the time we waited for one to turn up, got on it (we had to fold the buggy as well and we had nowhere to sit, so kids had to stand as well) and finally arrived back at Sequoia, we might as well have just walked it. Would've been more pleasant and less stressful lol. I think it's nice to have a leisurely stroll back to the hotel (esp after a huge meal!) - the kids didn't mind either (they were 2.5 & 5.5 yrs old then). It took us less than 20 mins, even with the kids walking in all directions lol.

I'm looking forward to a shorter walk though in December lol.

I have only staryed at the Cheyenne so far (we will stay at the SL for our Halloween Trip) and we have always walked back to the Hotel via the Disney Village and it makes half of the way more enjoyable because you can have a look at the shops and a peep in the other Hotels too.
Yes your feet may be hurting after a long day in the parks but it's still something that *can be done*.
We just got the shuttle in the morning and it was still a fight, i saw a mum and the pushchair left out waiting for the next one when dad and child had actually jumped on that bus :scared1:
