My fiance and I are going to be staying at the Poly for our honeymoon in October. We have made reservations for Victoria and Alberts, and were wondering if it would be easier to walk from the poly to the Gf and not have to worry about drinking and driving. Thanks

The path isn't clearly marked. It took us 15 minutes to get the the GF marina from the Poly. I would either take a cab or take the monorail. I was on the monorail in May with people who were leaving V & A.

I found it to be only a five minute walk from where the Luau is held to GF. It is a very romantic walk - but partly/mostly on the sand - so if you are all dressed up for V & A, the monorail may be more convenient.

Well, first of all, you won't have to drive either way:teeth:
Hop on the monorail and you'll be there in 2 minutes (of course, if you take the monorail BACK from dinner you will stop at MK, Contemporary, TTC and then Poly). But the walk is beautiful and I HIGHLY recommend it. DSIL and our two little girls did this last week after dinner at Kona Cafe (we were staying at GF). We walked out from the ground floor (took stairs down from Kona) and walked straight out to Volcano Pool, went left and around the Marina and found the path by looking at the various "you are here" maps around the property. We passed the Luau show area, the wedding studio, the GF Health Club and Spa and wound up at the GF. It was amazing! I can't wait to do that again:teeth: Especially w/ DH! It's romantic and a nice way to "walk off" dinner:wave2:

We did not have any trouble finding the walkway even at night, it is lighted. You do not have to walk in the sand there is a walkway from the Luau area of the Polynesian, past the Wedding Chapel, past the Grand Floridian Spa and then right past the new swimming pool with slide and you are there.

The only concern I would have is if you are going to V&A's you don't want to get too hot walking over. Maybe ride the monorail over and stroll back. It's a lovely walk along the lagoon.

LOL Johnsonet and I posted at the same time and had similar thoughts, :)

I have walked along the path from the Poly to the GF a few times. It is actually one of my favorite walks at WDW (along with the BWV to MGM). The path is well marked and easy to follow.

I agree that the best thing to do ids to take to monorail to the GF and then walk back to the Poly after dinner. You will not regret it. Definitely a great wat to top off an evening.

We love the walk between the GF and Polynesian and have done it many times. I agree with Lori that it's about a 15 minute walk depending on what longhouse you're staying in.

You can certainly take the monorail, too. Even when the MK closes early, it operates until 11:00.

If the MK is still open when you finish dinner, you could also take the little launches that run from the dock near Narcoossee's to the Polynesian and then on to the MK.

But if you choose to walk "home", it is a lovely, romantic walk. Follow the signs for the GF Spa and/or the tennis courts. From there, you'll walk past the wedding pavillion and on towards the Polynesian. You'll pass the Luau Cove and then will have a choice of paths within the Polynesian.

From the Polynesian, follow the signs for the Luau and then just keep heading toward the GF. Again, you will pass the wedding pavillion and then the Spa.

Have a great time at V&A and congratulations!

Well, lots more of you posted while I did my usual hunt and peck! I think we all agree...it's a great walk!:sunny:

The boat stops running before the park closes, sometimes as early as 6pm. At times only the monorail is available.

It is a very short walk from the GF to the Poly. My mom, who has bad knees, enjoys walking it. We always eat at 1900 Park Faire and walk back to the Poly afterwards. I wouldn't think of taking a car or cab.

The path that you'll walk includes many of the Walk Around the World bricks that were sold in the late 1990's. Take a look at some of the info on the bricks - they're great. In fact, our family's brick is located along that very path! :D

It is a brick walkway. We have never walked on sand to get there.

We have never seen the boat not running. (well, except in the middle of the night) We have gone in early December too when it has been pretty cold and rainy and still, the boat was running. We are talking about the Resort Launch, right? We always take it home to the Poly from the MK late late at night, like 11pm or later, and from dinners at Narcosees at the GF. Wonder why you have experienced it "closed"? In fact, when MK closes at night, they run more than one boat. We love taking the boat, it's such a wonderful peaceful way to wind down on the way back to the room (and yes, romantic too! especially if there aren't many other people on the boat with you!)

I just don't know how comfortable it would be to walk on those bricks in my painful but pretty, high heel shoes, having had a flight of wine! If anyone is going to fall, it will be me.

We used the walkway a few times while we were staying at the GF to visit the Polynesian. It was a quick peaceful walk and we enjoyed reading the bricks too. Enjoy! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and have a wonderful honeymoon!

I've made that walk many times both in heels and in flats. It's about a 15 minute walk from the GCH at the Polynesian into the main building at the GF if you are in heels. It is well marked and paved or bricked the entire way, unless you decide to walk off the path.

If you walk it in the day when it is hot, it can be almost brutal, there is little to no shade once you pass Luau Cove. It is not particularly well lit at night, although the ambient lighting from the resorts and MK create enough that you can find your way.

That said, I'd simply take the monorail to and from. When you gte off at the GF, you simply walk into the building, stay on the second floor and go towards the back of the building. In the rear left corner you will see the check-in podium for Citrico's, this is also check-in for V&A's. If you get there early enough stop in to Mizners for a cocktail. Enjoy!
