does this take a long time? It looks like they are close on the map...
Thanks!

DTD starts right at the western edge of the Esplanade between the two parks...so yeah, it is literally right outside the park gates.

Lets see, walking from the Main Entrance Plaza to the west end of Downtown Disney (ESPN Zone and the security check station) is close to 1/4 of a mile. Now, how long? Well that depends on how fast you walk, and how prone are you to be distracted and stop to "smell the roses". The entire area is inside the security zone, so that is not an issue. But you are going to walk by shops, restaurants and entertainment offerings, and if you keep stopping to browse, well, that is hard to calculate. Let's say about 10 minutes each way without the distractions, and work from there. But yes, they are right next to each other...

Keep in mind, if you are toward the back of DL, Tomorrow Land, Fantasy Land, you might want to take the monorail. That will drop you off by the ESPN Zone, Rain Forest Cafe area. of DTD

If your walk involves going by the Lego Store with young children (like your grandsons), then the walk could take a long time! Sometimes it helps to factor in the flower fountain, the store windows for WOD, the outdoor musicians at night, Build a Bear, the fountain by Tortilla Jo's, and the Lego Store. Those attractions can add a bit of time on to the walk. Or not, if you barrel on through.
