ok what kinda walkie talkies should i get for kepin touch around the park?

A lot of people use the FRS radios that can be found in most any store, and don't require a license to operate. These can work well, the problem is that a LOT of people use them, and it may be difficult to find a clear channel. There are also GMRS radios, which cost a bit more, so they're not as common, and they require (a fairly cheap) license to use. Or if you want something that almost nobody will be using, you could get a set of true business-band radios, but those require a more expensive FCC license, and cost about $150 EACH for a good-quality set (so $300 for a pair)

I like walkie talkies for cruise ships because you may want to find some one in your group while at sea, but in the USA, I prefer to use cell phones. It might be a good idea to buy an inexpensive pre paid Trac phone if staying in touch is important.

We have Motorola walkie talkies that are good for up to 2 miles and have 39X9 channels. These work pretty well within the parks, about 90% of the time. My sister has Cobra's that supposedly work up to 5 miles and have more channels, these worked even a little better. We have never had anyone else use our channel while at Disney

I have found that cell phones to be most practical. I have a set of GMRS Motorolas, but do like cell the best.

I have the Motorola Talkaboutes and they worked great in the park. But I took them last trip but seemed to use my cellphone more because I was always able to leave a Voicemail message if the person did not answer.

I didn't have a good experience with walkie talkies and will probably use cell phones next time.

I had some 2 mile radius Cobra GMRS 2 way radios. I had trouble at MK trying to talk when I was at Big Thunder Mountain RR and my wife was up by the teacups in Fantasyland. They operate on 1/2 watt of power instead of the typical 1 watt, so that was probably my problem.

If you still want to give them a shot, look into the 5 mile radius 2 ways. Motorola seemed to be better than the Cobras, but the Cobras are smaller. By the way the GMRS license cost me $75, but it was easy to get.
