has anyone any info on walk up reservations; ie, has anyone (dvc member with sufficient points) tried to get a dvc or disney resort ressie (with the dvc member's discount) same day? say i'm visiting wdw and decide to stay overnight, is it possible to walk up and get a reservation with dvc or disney resort, if there is room vacancy available? can the dvc resort or wdw hotels staff process the dvc transaction then and there? would i get the 25% hotel discount as a dvc member?

1) Walkups do not get discounts (eg. AAA, AP, DVC, FL, etc).
2) Resorts can only sell rooms at full rate at the counters.
3) You need to call MS or CRO.

Good answer, RS.

Remember, the DVC discount is only available on DVC rooms, not non-DVC rooms. And the availability is limited. The discount is not always available.

Though I am well aware of your knowledge and experience, R.S., I'm not sure that everything you have said is fully true in practice. It IS possible to get a reservation on points directly through the resort when MS is closed. There is a set of procedures that the resort can use to access your points and do a points reservation. I only know this because we did it once in an emergency in late 2004 and they were very helpful and everything went very smoothly. The CM said, "you know, I have never done this, but I have a manual that tells me how and we'll follow it and see if I can do it. Be patient and I think I can help you."

Sometimes walk up point reservations are available. For AP or other discounts, though, you do need to call CRO (which, actually, you can do from the lobby ;) )

We got an extra day added at the beginning of a reservation by calling the front desk at OKW on a Saturday one time when we were in Orlando before our long planned reservation was to start.

Or from check ins phone which some of us have done :)

A couple of years ago I was going to SSR for two weeks. I forgot that I had changed my flight to leave a day earlier.

When I arrived at the airport and picked up my car I started thinking about whether I had changed my DVC reservation or not.

I called SSR (about 8pm) from the airport. My reservation was to start the next day! They added on for that night with no problem, but it was with points.

Living in Orlando and deciding to go on the spur of the moment, I have called MS many times and have gotten same day ressies on points. I have also called the front desk at the resorts on Sat and have gotten a ressie on points.

Just confirming that Dr P and others have this one right. Just last year, we spent Easter week (Holy Week) at BCV. We were just beginning our drive home on Easter Sunday, when my youngest son got very sick on his stomach. After the third roadside stop (and we were not out of Orlando yet), we decided to return to WDW and spend the night (or however long it took for him to get better). MS was not open on Sunday, so I called BCV (the number was still in my cell phone). Unfortunately, they didn't have any rooms, but we asked them to transfer us to BWV. Luckily, BWV had an opening (standard view studio) and was able to book it for us on points. Another great benefit of being members.

Funny that this question came up....I was checking in at VWL last Sunday, and a couple walked up to the counter and was VERY upset because they couldn't get a villa. They apparently thought that as DVC members, they were guaranteed accommodations anywhere, anytime. :lmao:

Wow! I can bet they were not Dis people.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got a last minute room. I was fully prepared to just get a room at the airport if nothing had been available.

I've seen a few people turned away at the desk because they didn't have a reservation and were asking about one.

I have to disagree with all three of these statements. As to #3, it would probably be easier to call rather then walking up.
