walk-in to Kona or Flying Fish w/o ressie?

I will be on a solo trip and am thinking of either of these places, as I hear there is a counter by the chefs that you can sit at. Is there a good chance I could just show up with out a reservation and not have to wait long to be seated?

Should be fine. I have never seen the counter at Flying Fish fully occupied. The one at Kona (sushi bar) is smaller and I don't know how crowded it gets.

You can also eat at the bar in the Flying Fish--
The times we've done that it has never been full, so you should be fine solo.
And you can get the full FF menu there.

Good point. If you can't get into the restaurants, there are always the bar options. As they've said previously, the sushi bar outside Kona (opens at 5:30pm) and the bar at Flying Fish (or the show kitchen counter area) are good solo dining options.

Some people might think you can only get the sushi bar selections at the Kona Sushi Bar. But they do offer the full Kona Cafe dinner menu. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

It seems to vary each night. I love the Polynesian and stay there frequently. I walk past the sushi bar nearly every day en route to the monorail station. I've seen it nearly empty, and I have seen huge groups crowding around the counter with even more people waiting for a spot!

The good news is no reservations are required, and the Polynesian is such a wonderful resort that I never mind meandering around the lobby until a seat opens.
