Ok WISH team I've noticed that here lately things have slowed down. I guess that happens as it gets further from the big January events. Well we can't let our fire dim here guys, to be your best you have to stay excited all year.

So here's the challange: Everyone list your short term goals and what you are doing to meet them. Of course our long term is to be ready for the January 2008 fun.

I'll start first:

Lose 10 lbs so I can be faster and leaner: I'm going to stop eating late at night when I get home from work to do this.

Start stretching everyday: I'll stretch when I come home instead of eating.

Ok now it's your turn. Don't try to slink out with out posting because we all saw you come in here.

Losing 10 pounds is short term for you? I just want to lose 12 by next year. ;)

Short term - Traning for the Minnie 15K! Would be pleased as punch with a 10:30 mpm.

I'd be tickled pink with 10:30 per mile for 15K also. I would settle for 11 mpm for that distance. Last time I did a 10 miler for time I was at 11:53 pace.

My only goal is to be able to run injury-free!!! Oh, and I'd like to lose 5 lbs. ;)

Drat! I thought I could sneak a peak then sneak back out LOL

My goals are to run more and to get faster :) Losing weight is always on the list LOL

My plan to reach my goal is thru my DH who has set his eyes on the Full. Since he wants to do this and he NEEDS to train (hasn't done a race though does do some miles with me) the hope is he will bug me into going out and vice verse. There is quite a competitive air in the house these days  He asks if I'll be ok with him finishing ahead of me and I just laugh telling him not to choke on my dust. I currently run past him and out of sight as he shuffles along :lmao: I'm lovin' this because back when we were training for 2006 he used to leave Susan and I in the dust and be back at the car. We'd be in pain and he wouldn't. Evenually because I train with Susan AND him I was able to get a faster pace and outrun DH. That was the greatest day!

Oh and be good and do more exercises that work the core which I've been doing if not quite steady it's working it's way into my schedule so it's getting there.

My other goal is to get that groundhog canned and replaced with the possum ASAP! It rained so badly here on Thursday that, with the rapidly melting snow and the already high river, the park flooded. There are no river banks *sigh* So this weekend I will give up my run but that is ok because I think I'm fighting a cold :( Next week I'll have my usual 4 days off again and be able to do something towards my goals.

did I mention I took my job so that I could train for half (full) marathons LOL

Off to find that groundhog ...

I had to edit this to say that I too dream of the 10 mpm pace. That is my dream pace. For now I'll be tickled pink if I can have a 14 or less. That should be attainable since I had mostly 15:30 for this year's half with 2 under a 15 mpm. It was that ramp after mile 10 that killed my pace (that & the sick tummy).

Go Carrie Go for the 10 and Dave I hope you hit that 11 pace. Krista many pixie dust thoughts for a injury free year and races.

My goals:

Better, Stronger, Faster!

I'd love to lose 12 - 15 more pounds, then I'll be done with that.

And I'd love to see a 10 minute mile! Maybe even a pace in the 10s consistently, but at least a 10 minute mile :woohoo:

Much more cross-training. Okay, any cross-training ;)

Diane the groundhog is toast, from now on it's the weather possum all the way.

Things should be improving pretty quickly now.

Did you know that a WISH Team shirt makes you 15 seconds per mile faster just by wearing it. Really it does. There have been several research studies done.

A smile is more areodynamic than a frown, so there is less resistance to a smiling person than to a frowning person.

Only a small percentage of the people in this country exercise regularly, so dont dwell on the few out ahead of you, instead think of all the lounge lizards who can't possibbly catch you.

There is probably nothing you can do about whatever it is you're stressing about in the next hour, so you might as well go for a walk or a run. If you still want to stress about it then I'm sure it will be waiting.

Walk strong y'all.

Dave:)

I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds over the next year or two. Would like to focus more time on core work.
I hope to be back on my feet and start training again by mid-July.
I have my sights set on the Nike Women's 1/2 in Oct. before next year's Goofy!

Terri you can do that. By the Goofy you will be lean and strong as a bear.

Just remember you are the only you that you will ever get so make you the best you that you can be. And while your at it don't forget to have all the fun you can have.

Dave:)

I am all about goals!! Thanks for starting this thread. My goal right now is to run the Minnie 15K at a 8:45 pace. That sounds crazy to some, but we just did Gasparilla 1/2 at a 9:10 pace so the Minnie should be do-able. ( Also I will be all pumped up from my College Graduation the day before so I don't think anyone will be able to stop me !!:rotfl: ) However, my knee had started bothering me lately so we will see:confused3 !!! I took a week off and it seems to be better.

Good luck to everyone reaching their goals. You truly can do anything you work hard enough at. :thumbsup2

I walk, not run but I want to post my goals as well...

Currently I am on 'light' training. I finished a 1/2 marathon the end of January. My next event is a 5K the beginning of April. So for the next few weeks I'm working on speed not distance.

After the 5K, I'm starting distance walking with building the miles for the Portland Marathon the beginning of October. This will be my first marathon and I would like to finish in 6:30, my best 1/2 time was 3:11 and I think I could have done it a bit faster.

I'm flying back to PA to see my mom in a few weeks, so I'll be able to walk with some hills, Key West is pretty darn flat!

I also go to yoga twice a week and would like to get back to the gym for some strength training at least once or twice a week.

And, as previous posters have mentioned, ;) I have 10 pounds I'd like to shed somewhere along the way as well.

Angie that is super news, graduating college is sooooooooooo cool, :yay: :cheer2:

Dave:hippie:

Dave that is a cute possum. Thanks for that.

Love the lounge lizard reminder LOL

Now then if the WISH shirt makes you 15 seconds faster then....

2 WISH shirts would make you 30 seconds faster
Add socks (one per foot!) so what is that 10 seconds per sock? (20 ttl)
Add a WISH bracelet per wrist, again I say 10 seconds per bracelet. (20 ttl)
Add 1 WISH hat/visor for 15 seconds and where are we?

1:25 faster??? What about long sleeve WISH shirts? Are they any faster than the short sleeve and what about tanks? Are they worth 15 seconds too?

Angie way to go on the graduation! Couldn't mark the weekend in a better way than with a Minnie medal!

Hi Nancy! I walk too and 99.99% of my 3 Halfs were walking. Not race walking like Dave and Erica but I get it done. I'd like to be able to run more especially with the Full on the schedule. Enjoy those PA hills! :)

I really would like to "run" (no walking) the entire Minnie. So Goal #1 would be NO MISSED TRAINING DAYS!!!

I NEED to lose at least 20 pounds (30 would be better), but I know this will be difficult while training, so I just want to focus on making good eating choices and see what happens.

And do more Corework (and at this point that would be any:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 )

Short term goals? To lose weight (if I lose 16 more pounds, I'll finally be back in my "healthy" weight range).

I'd like to stay on track with training better, and cut out all those darn sodas!

I admit, I snuck in before and didn't post a thing. I can't escape though. I'm here.
I learned that cross training is very important since training for the Goofy this year I was not as good doing the cross training I had the previous year.

My goal is to do my best to get in the necessary cross training and continue to enjoy every moment I can training. The rest will happen.

Yes crosstraining, lots of ways to do that and keep it in our busy schedule. Sometimes you have to put some thought in it but you can ge a good workout doing everyday things.

Mow the yard with the push mower instead of the rider. If you have an estate then just do an hour with the push mower and finish up with the rider.

Wash the cars, amazing how much you can stretch and bend and push (you know the drill "wax on wax off".

Go outside and play with the kids. You will be amazed at how much of a workout you can get playing tag. I bet you are sore the next day.

You get the idea, find a project around the house and jump into it, great change of pace and if you look at it as crosstraining then it has extra purpose.

Happy crosstraining y'all.

I pretty much 'just walk' as well. I try to get into the racewalk posture for at least part of the time. I've discovered though I can not walk fast, I can walk far. :goodvibes

My last half, I was dead last for the first 5 miles, I was the only walker. When I finished, 10 runners had hit their personal walls, and were walking/running behind me. That was a mental boost for me as the first 5 miles were pretty tough mentally.

Yea Baby!!!!! We may be slow but we are strong and steady. Relentless forward motion. Grace and Beauty.
