Why do so many people waitlist? Is it because you want to stay at different resorts? I have only done it once, and waitlisted for BWV at Christmas, which came through. My sister owns at OKW, but books at 7 months to always stay at VWL. She usually gets it too. Don't think she ever hait to have her name on a list.

Just wondering about others.

3 potential reasons for me:

1) There is nothing available in my home resort for my planned trip. This is the case with my December trip. There is 1 night where there is nothing available at AKV. (Nothing means I tried all views and all room sizes.)

2) My preferred room size or view may not be available. So I'll book the next best one and waitlist for what I really want. I did this method for my May trip. I wanted to try CL at AKV but it wasn't available. I booked SV and then waitlisted for the CL. Within a few weeks, the CL came through. I can't wait.

3) I would like to try out a different resort than my home resort and they currently don't have any availability. I haven't actually done this yet, but I am sure that I will eventually because I want to check out all of the resorts.

We have only used the waitlist once. We booked a trip for early December in June. The only resort we could get was OKW and we really wanted BCV so we went on the waitlist. It came through a couple of months later. We just felt that it would be more convenient, but would have been happy at OKW also.
We are considering trying a waitlist again. We have a ressie for Dec/Jan 08 for a 1bdrm at VWL. We have been talking with friends about going and called MS today to see if perhaps a 2bdrm would be available. It wasn't, so we thougt about waitlisting for that.:)

I think Donald has provided most of the reasoning. Waitlist is sort of a last resort. It can really stress some people out, but it seems to be successful much of the time. Thankfully, we have not yet had to do it.

What date is not available in December 2008.

I believe the night not available at AKV is December 7, 2008

I've waitlisted twice and both times has been because I didn't call at the 7 month window.

For Easter week (March 21 - March 28), I called at the 6 month mark to book a 2-BR at SSR. I reserved a 2-BR lockoff, but wanted a dedicated 2-BR. So, I waitlisted the dedicated 2-BR and that reservation came though within 3 weeks.

I just recently called to book time in late July/early Aug at either VB or HH. When I called on 2/3, the only thing that was available at VB was a long weekned in late July. I took those 3 days and waitlisted night by night for a two week window. To date, no nights have come through. I also waitlisted an entire reservation for 10 days at HH. Dis knows to cancel the VB reservation/waitlist if HH comes through, and I can call and ask to be removed from the HH waitlist if I see VB ressies coming through. So basically, I'm waitlisting two beach resorts at the 6-month window in hopes that one of the two reservations comes through for us.

In my 12-year membership I've waitlisted just once - and that was to add on to my OKW reservation, which happily came through.

My vacations are generally planned w-a-y in advance and I am happy that I own at the only places I care to stay and therefore am normally not involved in waitlisting. I like to get flights and accommodations sorted out all at the same time :)

I'm waitlisted Dec 28-Jan 3 at AKL...called after making an ADD ON there and decided to take a trip around the holiday (a first for us). Yep, called at the 10 month window....and AKL was pretty much all booked up. I did find out a studio was available the first 2 nights, but DH refuses since the reason for the ADD On was to stay ina 1BED. Now I did call yesterday to see how the wait-list was pu in, daya-by-day or the whole week at once. Just as I suspecteed, the CM put in for the whole week at one. I kindy asked the CM to change to a day-by-day waitlist....she did and while on the phone 2 of the nights popped up.

I have a waitlisting question. We are new members and have never even stayed in DVC. We are going for our first trip in December 2008. We have our original vacation booked, but now my Mom has decided to buy points and added them on to our account. I am waiting for the points to be deposited so I can add (hopefully a Saturday night 2 br and studio).

My question is this:
If we end up having to waitlist those 2 rooms, do I have to keep calling to see if the waitlisst came through, or does Disney contact me about the waitlist. I thougt I read somewhere about calling the first minute of the 7 month window, but I didn't know if that was for members trying to reserve at a resort other than a home resort or if waitlisting involved you having to continually call back.

Also, when a 2 rooms are waitlisted, if they are exactly the same as the our original reservation, can we just extend the reservation instead of having to do a split reservation?

You can check on the member site to see if the waitlist has come through. You would look under vacation points and vacation details. I just waitlisted last week and when I checked after a couple of days I could see that the points were no longer in my account so I knew the waitlist had come through.

If they do come through and are the same as your origianl reservation they can be added to that reservation which is what happened with mine.

The calling at 7 months is for changing reservations to another resort other than the home resort.

We have used waitlist before. Usually for having to split a stay due to no rooms for the trip at the same resort. Waitlisted to get all at same resort. Other times because no room for a night or 2. Usually get a ressie for another resort usually Pop for us. If waitlist comes through cancel Pop no problem. We have 2 home resorts. We have a trip plan for late November and early Dec. One week at one and the second week at the other. I will try to get the second resort for the first week. I dislike changing resorts, but will do it. I may have to use waitlist because it is Thanksgiving week. In our case if second resort becomes available they will cancel first and give the second. They normally send a corrected confirmation. One trip I did not get it. I called one week out and found out I had it a month earlier. This is not normal, but does happen. Waitlist can be good, but can be stressful when having a cash ressie to cancel when it does come in.

generally, this is pretty much what happens with us if i call less than 11 months in advance:
i call to get say sunday through saturday, BWV studio w/ BW view.
the only nights available are sunday & monday, and thursday through saturday.
i book those nights, & set up seperate waitlists: one for tuesday & wednesday, then one for tuesday by itself, & another for wednesday by itself.

we haven't tried almost futile waitlists (as in waitlisting BWV a few months before the F&WF, or VWL before christmas), and have gotten our waitlist every time, within a few months.

:)

Say I use all my points for a reservation at the 11 month window for home SSR and at the 7 month window I call and would like to stay at akv, but the dates I want are not available could I be placed on the waiting list without any points?:hourglass

Yes, the catch is AKL may be more points, then you would have to do less days or borrow.
