Waitlist Help/DDP Question

So we're finally got everything all setup with our first DVC purchase and have booked our vacation. They didn't have the whole 8 days available anywhere so we ended up in a Deluxe studio over at SSR for two days, and then we move over to a 1BR villa at Kidani.

I'm not really a big fan of SSR. The theme just doesn't work for me and the overall size of the resort is a little intimidating. I'm honestly not looking forward to staying there at all. If we wait list those 2 days at Jambo house, and the reservations come through, do they cancel the two days at SSR, return the points back to our account, and then book Jambo? Or do they borrow the points to rent our Jambo room and then return the SSR points to our account? I'm just little hesitant to allow them to "borrow points" without knowing the order of how it works. We'll need to borrow 6 points anyway due to the point differential but I didn't want to end up with another 36 points from our SSR room that I couldn't bank.

Secondly, with the broken up stay, I assume will have two dining plans - one that expires when we check out of SSR and the other while we're at AKV. Can anyone confirm that anything not used at the end of the two days will expire or will it roll over into the new reservation?

If the wait list comes thru, they will cancel the SSR reservation first and then book the new room using the points that were freed up. The wait list should also be marked as being allowed to borrow so they can get those needed 6 points if it comes thru.

DDP from the first portion of your stay will expire at Midnight on the day you check out from the first resort. The credits will not roll over into the second portion of your stay.

IMO you should keep the SSR reservation to experience the resort and really decide if you like it or not, you may be surprised. :goodvibes

If you are set on the DDP, I would do the deluxe dining plan for the SSR stay and book some signature meals. For the AKV stay, I would have groceries delivered if you don't have a car, or do one of the other dining plans or TIW if it makes financial sense.

You will have years and years of DVC stays ahead of you so no need to rush and do everything in one trip.

We've been Disney people for a long time, just never had the cash on hand to buy into DVC. Once there wasn't a tuition bill for four kids in Catholic school, it was a lot easier to find the money to pay cash to buy in.

I think you pointed out a very good point that as frequent Disney goers we find our favorites and end up writing off a lot of things that we haven't tried. For most of the family, it's been AKL/AKV while I don't share the same sentiment. Not even going to lie, I was happy it was really the only thing available that week even though everyone else is apprehensive about it.

The dinning plan really does make sense for us. While we don't eat a whole lot, we like to try a whole lot. In that respect, it just works. I know it doesn't make sense for 90% of Disney travelers but for a grown up family with adventuresome tastes, it works for us. We never have to look at prices and figure out if its affordable or too much money or makes sense.

Based on your post, I would do the deluxe plan at SSR and the regular TS plan at AKV. With the deluxe plan you get 3 TS credits per day plus appetizers, that's 6 TS credits per person and you can use any left over credits the first day at AKV. That gives you plenty of credits for those signature meals.
