Creating a waitlist for a trip to CA. What type of room has the best "odds" of clearing at Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian? (We have stayed at both previously and happy to do either and not concerned about points as we have not used many this year and last). Only 2 of us but whatever has the most units of a specific type I assume is the one we would want to waitlist to give us the best odds of it clearing? Thanks in advance!

I’d say easily VDH, significantly more rooms than VGC. There are 23 studios at VGC but 253 at VDH. However I don’t know which view has more rooms at VDH to book.

Most of VDH is not declared for points bookings, so the numbers are a little misleading.

The initial declaration for The Villas at Disneyland Hotel included a total of 61 rooms of the following types:

  • Duo Studio: 8
  • Dedicated Studio: 48
  • Dedicated One Bedroom: 1
  • Lockoff Two Bedroom: 1
  • Dedicated Two Bedroom: 2
  • Grand Villa: 1
Which is still more dedicated studios than VGC has but it is not 200+ either. If one wants a studio, waitlist VDH. If you want a 1 or 2BR, waitlist VGC.

We honestly would take any room if we can use our points. I waitlisted studio at VDH and 1 bedroom at VGC so will see if any works out. Thanks so much!

If you waitlist for a Preferred Studio at VDH, I'd say your chances are pretty high and would be your best shot! Lots of that room type!

Which is even better for when they make declarations it adds rooms which could be freely able to grab.

Thanks again for all this information. Is there any set time or prediction when they make declarations?

I’m bumping this thread to see if anyone has lucked out with a waitlist coming through at the new DLH tower? I just put in a waitlist for a studio January 1-5, 2025 for the standard and preferred view. (I know I’m late to the game, but it could work, right?)

I’m going ahead and booking a refundable rate at another hotel in case it doesn’t work out.

Fingers crossed! I am going to stalk each day!

Have you looked into the hearing accessible rooms? When the tower first opened, I chatted with member services to book a room and only accessible rooms were available. I hesitated to book a room I didn't need the features for and was told by member services that essentially all rooms are hearing accessible, but they are simply activated for those who need the features. I don't know if that is true, but I book those room if they are available. I think January 1 is unavailable, but there are duo studios available for some of your dates.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve gotten a room at GCH before using the accessible rooms. I will see what turns up.

I’m trying to get 2 nights the first week in November. So far I’ve managed to get one of the two nights in a studio at VDH… not from a wait list though. A lot of times stuff will open up on the website before Disney fills waitlist. So it’s a good idea to stock the site.

I prefer VGC as it’s my home resort, but I’ve got a 5 night stay there in April…. So I wouldn’t mind staying at VDH for a couple of nights this time… If I don’t get the second night, I guess I’ll have to room hop to somewhere across Harbor Blvd…. I’ll reserve a room just incase… Even if I have to transfer rooms on Disney property, I would rather that… but we shall see.

I love looking at the DVC Field Guide (about $15) for this info. Honestly, if you are going to buy or own DVC it's a great resource. Everything in it is "probably" available somewhere online for free, but it pulls sooo much Correct info into one place it's awesome. When I realized everything DVC gave me was either Marketing "Fluff" or "Disclosures" and nothing useful in between, I was thrilled to find this.

My attitude towards WL is, what do you have to lose? As long as you pay attention to points costs of what you want vs. what you have, so that you don’t end up with points in holding, put in that waitlist and hope for the best!
