Waitlist at numerous resorts?

I have a reservation for a 1BR, but might possibly be wanting to waitlist for a studio. Since the dates are very tough to get, I'd probably be willing to accept pretty much any resort that might come through for my dates. My question is whether I'm limited on how many resorts I can waitlist for one set of dates (I'd be waitlisting for the entire 7 nights, not for individual nights).

I looked on the DVC member website to see if this information was there. They mention that there can be 2 active waitlists for a member within a given year, but I'm not sure if that means 2 resorts for one set of dates, or perhaps numerous resorts for up to two sets of dates.

Anyone?

Nope, two active waitlists total per UY. Different resorts, different villa size, different villa category all count as one.

Unfortunately you cannot set up a waitlist for "any studio at any resort for mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yy" or even "any studio at resort XYZ" at those resorts that have more than one booking category.

Each waitlist has to list one resort, one room size and one booking category for a given date range. For example, "BWV Studio, Standard View, mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yy" would be one waitlist and "BWV Studio, Pool and Garden View, mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yy" would be a separate waitlist.

I understand that. But let's say I entered the 2 studio scenarios you mentioned here. Is that my limit for that set of dates? Or could I waitlist others for the same dates, with the plan that whichever matched up first would be the "keeper"?

Also, is it different if I waitlist by phone compared to waitlisting via the member website? Do I have more/less options for waitlisting by phone vs. website?

Thanks, LisaS and Deb & Bill, for your replies. I appreciate your help!

You can have only two active waitlists per UY. You get to pick one resort, one room size, one booking category and one set of dates for each of those two waitlists. If you set up the two studio scenarios I listed, you would not be able to set up any other waitlists at all (not even for totally different dates) within that same UY.

If you set up two waitlists within a given UY and one of those waitlists comes through, then you can set up another one because you would be down to just one active waitlist for that UY. If you had two waitlists set up for the same dates and one came through, I don't know if the other waitlist is cancelled or remains in place. I would think it stays in place, meaning that if you got lucky and your 1st choice came through, you could be at risk of your 2nd choice coming through later and replacing it if you didn't remember to cancel the second waitlist.

The limit is two within a UY, regardless of whether you set them up yourself online or MS does it for you over the phone.

ETA: I took a look at what options are presented when you create a waitlist online. I didn't see anything there beyond what you can do through MS. I was glad to see you can specify things like whether or not it's OK to borrow points for the waitlisted reservation, whether or not to cancel an existing reservation if the WL comes through and where (which contract) to take any additional points needed for the waitlist.

Lisa, thanks so much for clarifying. It's crystal clear now, and I appreciate your help. :)

You're welcome! If you do set up a couple of waitlists, be sure to go online from time to time to see if you can get something for your dates at other resorts/other booking categories where you could not set up a waitlist due to the limit. In fact, there have been several reports of people finding availability at the exact resort/category/dates that they waitlisted for, despite having a waitlist in place.

Good to know. Thanks again!!
