Waiting Lists

Hi I'm new to the board and a new member of DVC. I had a vacation planned Jan 1-7; however, SSR was booked on 1/1 and 1/5 for 2br and I just put myself on the waiting list. What are your experience with this? Do rooms clear up or chances are I'll have to replan my vacation?

If any resort will open up it's SSR so you stand a pretty good chance. If staying at your favorite resort is important to you, make sure that you buy there.

Id be shocked if 1/5 didn't free up. that said, 1/1 could be tough. You may want to book a room only reservation somewhere to be sure you have a place to stay. You can cancel them up to 5 days prior to your arrival in case your wait list comes through

I still don't quite understand why. but for some reason DVC tosses out your wait list request at 7 days prior to your requested date. Just something to be aware of. maybe someone else can explain this policy better. Also I had a friend who recently called and was told by member services he should frequently call back and not rely on the waitlist.

Your wait list is canceled at 7 days before check in only if you requested 7 days, the default is 30 days prior to check in.

I was aware of the above, I just wondered why they didn't leave the wait list active up til the day before. What is so special about 7 days out? Do they reassign last minute cancellations to their cash rental inventory?

The 5th may also be hard to get because of Disney Marathon weekend (5K is on the 6th).
