Have/are any of you on the wait list to buy direct at a sold out resort? I am in the process of buying my first contract resale (220 OKW) but have decided I want 25 or 50 more direct for the season pass discount. Even if they take that away, I will be happy with my extra points. My guide said I need to wait until I close so I can use the same member number. He said he would add me to the wait list and typically within weeks the contract becomes available. I'm wondering what your experience has been if you've done this. Sounds like it's quite easy. Closing costs are minimal and there is no waiting like resale. Is that correct?

I bought my first contract direct for 50 pts from SSR this year. I called up Disney, asked for a contract between 50-75 (anywhere) and they came back within 5 minutes or so and said they had a 50 pt contract at SSR. Bought it right then and there. It was really smooth. Enough so that for small contracts I almost wouldnt consider resale myself. The other nice thing about buying direct is that you can add on to your contract in 25 pt increments, which we may do at some point. It is more expensive than buying resale but man does Disney have it down, in terms of making the buying process smooth

We have also had 2 good experience with waitlisting. We have bought all our contracts direct we just roll that way. We waitlisted twice for more SSR points at seperate times. We wanted to keep the same UY. Both came up within 2 weeks. The guide had already taken our credit card details and it just automatically was deducted. It was the easiest transaction. We live in the UK and they fedex the documents for us to sign! We were able to book on those points the moment it hit our credit cards. I can't fault the direct process. Plus we got the previous years points. We banked those straight away!

We were on the waitlist for BWV add on in 2014. We have 2 UY, June and Aug, so we went on waitlist at both to see which would come first. It was relatively quick for our June UY, just a few weeks, and once they had the points we had them in our account in about 2 days. We were sent paperwork to sign and send back. We used our Chase Disney Visa to buy so we could get the zero interest for a period and the rewards points. Closing costs are going up for direct. It used to be zero closing costs and then they started charging small fee for it and it's been climbing. For our 55 points we paid like $130 in CC and that was in 2014 (I think it's higher now). But resale closing costs have gone up a bit too and it is still a bit less with direct points. Our guide forgot to take us off the other UY (Aug) waitlist and she called us about 2 months later and told us they had 55 Aug points if we wanted them. We could not resist 25 more (now wish we had taken all 55). We paid $130pp for the 25 but we got $7pp off for the 55 because there was a deal, at that time, that you'd get $7pp off for any 50+ point add on.

Just so you know, you don't have to add on OKW. You can go for another resort. But it is best to get the same UY of your OKW resale.

DVD offers waitlist resorts when they have points to get rid of due to foreclosures or ROFR take backs. They do not want to sell older resorts, they want to sell only new resorts. Their selling of older resorts is dependent on inventory and other numbers and the number of resales processed changes all the time.

I purchased 50 at SS 2 weeks ago- they made it seem like they "magically appeared" and I needed to jump on it. The exact Use Year we wanted too. I think they can "find" them quickly if they think they are losing a sale.

I'm currently waitlisted for BWV. :( We already own some but wanted to add a few more. We were originally told they were available. We made the request & magically they were gone. We were told they'd make a special request before an exception since it was a small amount so we'd have to wait a week to see if it was approved. We were told today they couldn't do it & we're just on a wait list. Not really sure if that means it still will likely be done or if we should look into resale.

so if I waitlist points at SSR and they become available can I pay my deposit on a credit card? Is it still 10% for the deposit?

Yes, you can pay deposit with CC and the remainder and they can set up a couple payments instead of one entire. Can't remember the deposit amount, but 10% sounds right.

We recently bought 250 point direct at BCV. We asked, they told us later that day that they could get them. I don't really understand how it happened since I know that there's a wait list, but we didn't question it.

We just (this past Friday) bought our first contract - 100 at OKW. Our guide had to "call downstairs" to see if they had any OKW points, as I made it clear that we were not interested in any other resort. He came back on the phone within a minute or two to say we were in luck and they had the points available

Wow! That's awesome to hear. Glad you got what you wanted and so quickly!!

That gives me hope as I'd want OKW points as well to go with my new contract. Did you get to pick the use year?

What are the prices like for say like OKW or SSR if you are purchasing direct from Disney per point?

Usually Disney wants to sell you the same use year you already own so that it is just an add on to your original contract (though there are reports of people insisting on a different UY for various reasons and Disney agreeing to it). If you are buying a small add on (under 50 points) it would have to be the same use year you already have since the minimum for a new master contract is 50 points.

Talked with Disney in late March about buying 150 VGF points but got wait listed, in the meantime we started a purchase resale in early April. Of course Disney called in the middle of the ROFR purchase with the exact amount of points we wanted, making us a little nervous they were going after the resale contract we were buying. Happy to say we should receive our member number in the mail this week and staying next spring at the Floridian. So our wait list time was about a month for buying VGF direct, the resale process took about 3 months.

Also, wanted thank everyone on Disboards for the great info they posted about buying DVC both direct and resale, this being my first post on here.

What part of the transaction was the salesperson calling "an exception?"
