Wait list and buying points

I Don't have any points to borrow. I wait listed a resort that is 5 points more than the resort it is replacing. If the resort becomes available, I'd buy the five points needed. I couldn't indicated my intentions when booking the wait list online. Is there a way to make this workout?

Buying points can ONLY be done on the phone with MS and within your 7 month booking window.

I don't think they will fill a wait list if there aren't enough current points or points to borrow. If you need to purchase the one-time-use points, you need to call when booking the resie to do that (7 months or less). You could book something that is available and takes that # of points (and buy the one time use points to book it) and then wait list what you want.
