waist packs & lockers

Ok, we're 8 days away, and I was reading some trip reports & Kelly Monaghan's book. I usually use a waist pack in theme parks, but I've been reading about the lockers at many of the rides. Will I have to store my waist pack there? Not a problem - I just want to be prepared. Also, do most of the rides have those lockers now? I really think its a good idea. I've seen parks before that had cubby like areas for people to store hats, sunglasses, bags, etc, but they were not secured.

I read one report that said she used her fingerscan - What no key? How do the lockers work? Which ones cost money? TIA

A waist pack is generally acceptable at most attractions. Just shift it to the side so it does not interfere with the restraint.

If you have to put your stuff in a locker, you would do so at the following: Hulk, Dueling Dragons, MIB, and Mummy. Those lockers have finger scan. Just follow the instructions that appear on the screen of the rental station. Once you open a locker, that's it! The computer forgets your fingerprint and will reassign the locker to somebody else.

The lockers that cost money are near Ripsaw Falls, Popeye & Bluto's, and JP River Adventure. Those are $2/hr and require you to make up a passcode.

I would like to add that while it usually is not a problem, some TMs may have issue with it. I have had a tiny camera waist pack that I tried out. It would have fit into a male pants pocket... they freaked out and made me take it off after i was on the ride. I know the rules are for a reason, but 5 TMs had seen it at that point...

I can't speak for anything recent, but I know when we went back in 2006, we were required to remove our fanny packs and put them in lockers. We finally decided to just buy lanyards for our passes and put our sunglasses and cell phones in our front pockets. That solved the problem. We just managed without the other things I prefer to carry in the parks. The lockers were too much of a hassle. There are so few regulars in the parks and the locker system was just too confusing for so many first time users. The lines were jammed up all the time at the computers. It was total chaos. I found MIB to be the worst.

We were there late April this year and I was allowed to wear my fanny pack into all attractions (Mummy/MIB). My hubby was also allowed to wear his on all of the rollercoasters at IOA.

We were there in April 2006 and ran into the same issues. The lines for the lockers were almost as long as some of the rides because of confused people not knowing how to work them - I was one of them by the way - so it took me a bit to get used to them. I had a fanny pack and was told it had to be put in a locker.

I'm taking the kids in 23 days and we are going bagless. It will be cargo pants all the way to avoid the lockers! :yay:

I'm surprised that some people have had problems with waist packs, particularly small ones. I have one that's large enough to carry enough provisions for the 5th Panzer Division, and never once have I been forced to take it off. They simply ask me to push it to the side, although they don't even really have to anymore because I've gotten in the habit of doing it automatically. We're local so we go to USF/IOA a lot, and I've never once had a problem.

We're not local and rather than provisions for the 5th Panzer Division, mine has the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Kitchen sink in it. But other than that, we also go quite often and have never, ever been asked to remove said large lump strapped to waist.

I too have been trained well to just move it to the side.

one tip for the homies.

as many times i have ridden on the hulk, i screwed up last year.

i always put my waist pack to the inside next to the other rider to keep it safe. that way i have more cushion to the contents of my bag.
if i am on the end seat, the hard seats crush my bag sometimes when it is twisted toward that and not another person.

in my ignorance, i put my new expensive sunglasses on the bottom of my waist pack. when i got off, the stems of the glasses were snapped.

can't wear sunglasses on the ride, they would fly off.

this year i'm gonna wear a brim hat.

Well, we're back & the waist pack was no problem. I just moved it to the side. I finally realized why no bags on MIB - the cars are open on one side and when you get spun around, any bag on the floor would easily go sliding out.

There were enough issues at the entrance with finger scans to make be want to avoid finger scan lockers at all costs. : )

Was not allowed to wear my small waist pack on MIB-----they waited till I got to the car to tell me ------ :confused3

Actually there are multiple signs in front of the building and throughout the queue that boldly states "no bags of any kind allowed" or something like that. At least they were there last Sept. and I was surprised to see them. Not sure when they 1st went up but I do recall in the past there were little net type bags to hold belongings on each car. I remember this specifically cuz dh and ds left their brand new rain ponchos on the ride and we had to buy 2 more to leave the building. :headache:
