waht's your favorite baby shower gift to give?

I like to give Arthur Court feeding dish or bowl & spoon. They aren't practical, but a keepsake. :cutie:

BabyGap pajamas, they are the softest thing you'll ever find and many of the designs are unisex. If you go online you can usually find them on sale. My daughter still only wears these PJs.:)

We had several teachers have babies at the same time, and I gave them each a "one-sie" (sp?) of the theme "The very Hungry Caterpillar". I would have liked to give them each the cardboard book, too - but I was going cheap on these! (There wasn't a shower - I just wanted to get them each something)

One of my favorite outfits for my boys was the Osh-Kosh railroad overalls, the matching hat and a red long-sleeved shirt. I have given this many times, especially if we know it's a boy. It works for girls too. I usually get it in a size 18 months - for later on.

I like the bouncy seats too! But if you have to buy 4 of them, you're looking at at least $100-$150 you will be spending. And the ocean aquariums are great as well.

For something less pricey, I love the Carters sleeper gowns...the ones that just have elastic gathering at the bottom vs. legs. A lifesaver for middle of the night diaper changes- no zippers, snaps, etc...just lift it up! And they are so soft! I think they're usually about $16 for a two pack.

And might I add, that for my first son, a LOT of people loved the idea of giving me bundles of shampoo/baby wash/powder/desitin/ towels....I swear to God I didn't have to buy any of that stuff til he was nearly 2 or 3!!!!!!!! I generally don't give that as a gift as I remember how much I got!

This is what I always buy

A cute gift...

Sometimes I wait and send it home after the baby is born. I also make my own with size 2 diapers, so they can enjoy it for a while before ripping it up to use it.

okay, apparently its true. I am the only mother in history who hated this book. My MIL gave it to us when my son was almost a year and told me dh and I to be prepared to cry. Instead we got creeped out by it...especially when she drives over to his house in the middle of the night. my god. I am NOT heartless, but this book just didn't do for me what it does for others.

Count me in -- I can't stand this book. It's too depressing.

I'm right there with you guys!! Dh and I found it a little creepy too. I'm ok with it until she climbs in his window after he's moved out and married!!
I love all of Robert Munsch's other books though. What an off-beat sense of humor. And kids love the repetition.

One of the neatest gifts I rcvd at one of my showers was a clothesline. The person got some ribbon ... tied a knot on each end ... got old fashion clothespins ... attached about 4-6 outfits to the ribbon with the clothespins and then put it all in a tiny clothesbasket! It was too cute. She had it folded with tissue paper covering the gift, so I didn't realize what was actually inside the clothesbasket. I know that stores like TJ Maxx and Ross have Carter's and other outfits about half-price.

Ditto on what the most recent posters have said about lotions and powders ... I took most of mine back and got target gift cards. I still have enough for a looooong time. You don't usually bathe them everynight (as an infant), so a little goes a long way.

One thing I would have enjoyed, would be a cleaning service for a week or so after I got home from the hospital, but that would be more $$$! Good Luck and have fun shopping!
