waht's your favorite baby shower gift to give?

Shape-O ball by Tupperware
Hand crocheted blankets paired with a matching colored outfit. ( crochet a lot)
Diaper material recieving blankets with crocheted edgings (From one of our many Latin baby stores)
Onesies

If I'm not sure of what they need, I give sleepers, onsies, and clothes. I also like giving nice blankets, the solid ones, not those silly ones with the fringe. (They are only good for when you're taking baby out, they can't actually sleep with them.) Soft rattles and little toys are nice too.

We have a Carters outlet store. I love buying things there! I always find something new and unique!

For my cousins baby, I found a whole Hungry Catepiller line. I was able to match the sleeper, outfit, blanket, plus a soft rattle.

I usually give an outfit - not very original I know - but I miss shopping for cute baby clothes.
I do generally try to get something in a 12 or even 24 month size.

I know I got so much stuff in 0-6 month sizes that I felt guilty buying anything at all - certainly didn't need it - but wanted to shop for my own child just a little bit.
Then when they hit about a year old, all of a sudden there were no more nice new outfits waiting in the drawers - yikes!

Lots of good ideas and opinions here.
Have fun shopping.:)

One thought on the diapers- I got a ton of Pampers when I was expecting my dd. Turned out they gave her diaper rash. I could only use Huggies on her. Same with wipes. She had a sensitive tushy. :o

if you give this gift but it's a book I treasure to this day ...

Love you Forever by Robert Munsch.

Enclose a box of Kleenex because every mother who has ever read that book will cry along with the Mommy to be. My son's older now but that book still makes me cry ...

I would most definitely NOT give powder, lotion, etc., b/c many of us did not put that stuff on our babies on the advice of our pediatricians. Our doc said powder gets in their lungs, lotion clogs their pores and none of it does the baby any good!

I did get some of that stuff when my last child was born. I used the oil on my feet and the lotion on my hands. DH used the powder on his feet. None of it went near the baby.

It is a really great idea - except I went to a baby shower last month and two diff. people gave this book and kleenexes.

Of course that could happen with anything - two people gave my DD the exact same outfit in the same size. Good thing one was from a friend far away - so neither of them knew.
I went to exchange one and it WAS a really great sale!;)

What I have given that was greatly appreciated is a membership to a portriat (sp - picture) club.. IE Sears or JCPenneys. It lasts two years, and they can even use coupons that are in the paper. They can get the babies pictures done every week if they want without sitting fees.

They cost around$30.00. Just make sure you get a picture.

Happy Thoughts to all,

okay, apparently its true. I am the only mother in history who hated this book. My MIL gave it to us when my son was almost a year and told me dh and I to be prepared to cry. Instead we got creeped out by it...especially when she drives over to his house in the middle of the night. my god. I am NOT heartless, but this book just didn't do for me what it does for others.

one other thought...gift receipts are wonderful!!! that way if they get multiples of an item it is so easy for them to change it. I can't even begin to tell you how many outfits we received that will never be worn (literally far too many 0-3 month outfits) and no clue where they were bought so no return. even if they know where it was bought the item may not bring the price you paid because of sales, markdowns, etc.

My son received two copies of this book too. The beauty of the "double" is that I will always have one to keep for myself and the other stays with his "library collection".

I understand it now comes in hardcopy and paperback. I have the paperback and, trust me, it's been well read.

The last baby gift I was a part of was for a co-worker. We all put money together and got a huge pack of diapers, a gift check for portraits and a gift check for the new parent's favorite resturant, so they didn't have to worry with dinner for a night.

If these are first time parents, a baby tub, bouncer, or baby bottle bag to keep the milk cold are good ones that they would be able to use.

I like to give blankets and "blankies to go" from Barefoot Dreams. They are made from washable silk/cotton and they are fabulous!

I create something special for each person, such as a blanket or a painting.

I've heard from several Mom's to be that film and the cost of developing the film (gift card) are well received and something most people don't think of including the new parents. Typically in those first few months many photos are taken and developing can get expensive after awhile, especially when your purchasing diapers and other baby goodies. ::yes::

The gift I like to give is a diaper cake, take diapers and roll them up and add ribbon and a topper and its a very cute, unique way to give diapers.

My favourite gift for a new mom is a tooth fairy container. I realize they won't use it for several years but are really happy to have it ready when the little one's become bigger. I have found one here that is really nice and I can get it engraved.

I LOVE to crochet baby afghans for gifts!:)

What we gave our coworkers was several gift certificates to restaurants to be used as dine in/take out we figured that each mom to be would already be receiving enough " baby stuff" at showers given by family members, and what a treat to not have to cook for a few nights.
