Wahines on Tour - Hawaii and peek at Aulani! LAST DAY IN THE SUNSHINE UPDATE 8/6

Tammy, I'm enjoying your report. I'd love to go to Hawaii someday but for the flight! So long and so expensive!

I hope the sun came out for you. It looks like you had cloudy weather from the pics you posted.

I love the huge mai tai story. I would have been so embarrassed that they rang a bell for my drink! Too funny.

That's interesting about the Wholphin. I didn't know that dolphins and whales could mate.

:cool1:

Yup! Moping, Whining and Remorse, right? Do I win a prize??

Sometimes that is true! :rotfl2:

Oh. I was real close, though.
:thumbsup2

An all day tour...
The weather kept on staying rough,
the tiny bus was tossed

oh never mind.

:lmao: Thanks! I wanted to do that, and I just wasn't creative enough!

I hear ya! Beautiful over there, isn't it? :)

t1100111.gif

Hmmm... not sure about that. I got this from wiki:

"The rock jetties at the entrance of Newport Bay can be seen during the opening theme during the line "A 3-Hour Tour" as the Minnow heads out to sea. Also, the marina shown in the opening shot is the Alamitos Bay Marina in Long Beach, California."

But Coconut island off the windward side was Gilligan's island, though.

See, everyone wants to be THE bay - It was probably shot in a bathtub with toy boats!

That's really cool! :thumbsup2 Wish I'd seen that.

I have a (sort of) similar story coming up later in my TR.

:coffee:

It does! That's pretty cool too!

That was one spot I wanted to see but never got to. Now I get to see it through your eyes, so thanks! :)

Glad I could help!

We did go there. Did you go down to the beach?

That is a question from the quiz - you'll have to keep reading....

Hmmm... that sounds interesting. Thanks for the update! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for reading! Not sure where everyone else is....Well, a couple of them are leaving on a cruise today! pirate:

Welcome Laura! :cheer2: Thanks for coming over!

Yes it was umbrella weather for sure!

I couldn't believe how big it was!

I didn't really think they would mate - I don't think they do in the wild:confused3

Let's see where were we? Umm, I seriously don't know. :earboy2: Oh, Hanauma bay - and it's time for lunch!

Lunch was included at Olomana golf club so that was our next stop!

IMGP3631.jpg

I'm pretty sure this is a military place - or used to be - the style is very typical MWR -
IMGP3632.jpg

IMGP3633.jpg

We headed inside and they had two long tables all set up for our group

IMGP3635.jpg

It was like being suddenly transported back to the 70's, or being part of a taping of That 70's Show! :lmao: We had pre-ordered our lunch, which was actually quite good! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with ham, provolone and PINEAPPLE of it. After we got seated, Michelle, Tabby and I decided we were on vacation, so a drink was in order.

I went over to the bar to order, because a drink was in order. It was about 11:30 am, so no one was really around, except the hostess. Finally a young man came over to the bar. I ordered a Bloody Mary, and he fumbled around a little bit, but pretty much figured it out. When Tabby and Michelle came back, Michelle had a Long Board beer - (she was the smart one) and Tabby had something brown in a glass. She had ordered a Mai Tai, but I guess he put pineapple juice and white rum in her cup, looked puzzled for a miinute and squirted some pepsi on the top for the brown color! :lmao: Tabby offered a taste - very interesting to say the least.

We ate near the window, sharing our table with a really nice couple who were staying on Ford Island near the USS Arizona. At about knee height, there were some louvres which were open to the outside - I noticed because a cold breeze was blowing in on my legs. When I looked down, it was open to the outside, and ummmm, it looked like little bird visitors had been coming in and visiting on the baseboards around the table :crazy2:

I took this pic out the window - beautiful course!

IMGP3634.jpg

Our lunch was actually good, but most of us were dutifully taking the buns off our sandwiches. Our driver Jerry came around and collected the left over bread and lettuce off our plates "for our friends for later." I was wondering who our friends were? :confused3

NEXT UP: HOLD ON TO SOMETHING!!!!!

So with our full tummies, we jumped back on the bus - well, I didn't jump, but it sounded good!

The driver said we were going to Pali. :confused3 Being a DISer, all I could think about was that he said we were going to the Poly!:rotfl2: I had no idea what was next.

We headed out

IMGP3636.jpg

IMGP3637.jpg

IMGP3638.jpg

Soon we were pulling into Nu' uanu Pali lookout park! It was raining, and Jerry told us that this place was famous for how windy it is. He told us to go ahead and get out, but "If you get too close to the edge, be careful! Hold on to something - the wind is strong and it can make you lose your balance." He then proceeded to tell how some people go up there and lean in to the wind on the edge of the cliff, and if strong enough, it will hold them up. :scared1:

He opened the door, and only 1 or 2 people got out, probably thinking it was rainy and cold. Then he said, "come on!" "Where's your adventure, you have to see this!" So we all got out.

I looked out to see a lady barely holding on to her inside-out umbrella

Weather3.gif

For some reason, I got out and opened my umbrella. :hippie: Did I tell you I'm naturally blonde? :rotfl2: Guess what happened? :lmao: I quickly turned the right way, got it fixed and folded up. The other lady was still spinning in circles, struggling with hers, which was acting like a sail.

Jerry stopped to feed our "friends" he had collected the bread and lettuce off our lunch plates for:

IMGP3655.jpg

I caught up to Tabby and Michelle, who were having 2nd thoughts

IMGP3640.jpg

Alright, into the wind we go, like good:: pirate:

IMGP3641.jpg

About this time, we were laughing so hard we were crying, because we could barely walk up hill!

Here's a couple from the bus with a great idea!

IMGP3644.jpg

I think this is Pali Peak?

IMGP3642.jpg

Ya think?

IMGP3645.jpg

Here's our reward for facing the wind!

IMGP3646.jpg

IMGP3647.jpg

IMGP3650.jpg

I believe Jerry said these little cut outs in the rock were bunkers that were put in during the war to hide ammo
IMGP3652.jpg

After pictures, we headed back out...

Next: Punchbowl National Cemetery

Whaa???? How'd I miss this update? :confused3 Whatever!

Diving in now!

Let's see where were we?

Ummm... Hawaii? Hello!

Umm, I seriously don't know. :earboy2:

Green island? Middle of the Pacific? Are you not getting this?

Oh, Hanauma bay - and it's time for lunch!

Phew! :scared: I was getting worried there!

I'm pretty sure this is a military place - or used to be - the style is very typical MWR -

I wonder if it was military or if the style was influenced by the military presence when it was built. I wonder when it was built, that would help with the answer I'm betting.

I'm not curious enough to start googling, tho'. :rotfl:

It was like being suddenly transported back to the 70's, or being part of a taping of That 70's Show! :lmao:

It would've been great if Red or another character popped up to take your order! :lmao:

We had pre-ordered our lunch, which was actually quite good! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with ham, provolone and PINEAPPLE of it.

That sounds good. How was it?

After we got seated, Michelle, Tabby and I decided we were on vacation, so a drink was in order.

I went over to the bar to order, because a drink was in order.

YOU'RE out of order! YOU'RE out of order! THE WHOLE TRIAL IS OUT OF ORDER! THEY'RE OUT OF ORDER!

sorry 'bout that.

She had ordered a Mai Tai, but I guess he put pineapple juice and white rum in her cup, looked puzzled for a miinute and squirted some pepsi on the top for the brown color! :lmao:

When in doubt... improvise! pixiedust:

Tabby offered a taste - very interesting to say the least.

I'll bet! :rotfl:

We ate near the window, sharing our table with a really nice couple who were staying on Ford Island near the USS Arizona.

That statement right there is pretty cool.

When I looked down, it was open to the outside, and ummmm, it looked like little bird visitors had been coming in and visiting on the baseboards around the table :crazy2:

It's Hawaii, everything is open... but it might be nice if they cleaned once in a while.

I already know who the "friends" are (read the next update already). Too bad we didn't think of that. The DDs would've had a ball.
Thanks (belated) for the chapter!

So with our full tummies, we jumped back on the bus - well, I didn't jump, but it sounded good!

Jumping with a full stomach? No.
Napping? Yes.

Maybe that's just me.

The driver said we were going to Pali. :confused3 Being a DISer, all I could think about was that he said we were going to the Poly!:rotfl2: I had no idea what was next.

:lmao: Now that's a bus ride! "All right ladies and gentlemen, this next part of our tour might be a little wet... almost as wet as Kali River Rapids!"

Soon we were pulling into Nu' uanu Pali lookout park!

I've been there! Got a story 'bout that one too!

It was raining, and Jerry told us that this place was famous for how windy it is. He told us to go ahead and get out, but "If you get too close to the edge, be careful! Hold on to something - the wind is strong and it can make you lose your balance."

Now you tell me! :sad2:

He then proceeded to tell how some people go up there and lean in to the wind on the edge of the cliff, and if strong enough, it will hold them up. :scared1:

That's nuts! It's a loooooong way down, isn't it!

He opened the door, and only 1 or 2 people got out, probably thinking it was rainy and cold. Then he said, "come on!" "Where's your adventure, you have to see this!" So we all got out.

So... enquiring minds want to know. Were you one of the "1 or 2" or one of the 'huddling desperately for warmth on the bus' folk?

For some reason, I got out and opened my umbrella. :hippie: Did I tell you I'm naturally blonde? :rotfl2:

:lmao:

Guess what happened? :lmao:

Could'a been worse.... Mary Poppins.

I quickly turned the right way, got it fixed and folded up. The other lady was still spinning in circles, struggling with hers, which was acting like a sail.

Mary Poppins, I tell ya.

About this time, we were laughing so hard we were crying, because we could barely walk up hill!

Whoa. Sounds like you had a bit more wind then we did.

Here's our reward for facing the wind!

I just stopped there more or less 'cause we were driving by. Glad I did.

I believe Jerry said these little cut outs in the rock were bunkers that were put in during the war to hide ammo

That looks a little small for ammo, don't you think? Unless it's been sealed off or something. :confused3

Next: Punchbowl National Cemetery

A place we did not go. Can't wait to see your pics! :goodvibes

Hanauma Bay been there done that.. wanna go back lol.

Love that you guys had a sort of drink.. kinda lol thats my girl!

So did you guys try and have the wind keep you up? thats my kind of adventure!:rolleyes1

Love the pics makes me wanna go back!

Whaa???? How'd I miss this update? :confused3 Whatever!

Diving in now!
Better late than never! Unless it's a military function, then I think never is better than late! :rotfl2:

Ummm... Hawaii? Hello!

Green island? Middle of the Pacific? Are you not getting this?

Phew! :scared: I was getting worried there!

I'm not curious enough to start googling, tho'. :rotfl:

I tried to Oblige, but only found canned info

It would've been great if Red or another character popped up to take your order! :lmao:

That would have been funny

That sounds good. How was it?

Oh, it was great - I remembered it was Teriyaki chicken, and a whole grain bun!

YOU'RE out of order! YOU'RE out of order! THE WHOLE TRIAL IS OUT OF ORDER! THEY'RE OUT OF ORDER!

sorry 'bout that.

Good One! I was going to fire back, "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" but it was the wrong movie :rotfl2:

When in doubt... improvise! pixiedust:

I'll bet! :rotfl:

That statement right there is pretty cool.

So much history.

It's Hawaii, everything is open... but it might be nice if they cleaned once in a while.

I guess you have to get used to Island ways :confused3

I already know who the "friends" are (read the next update already). Too bad we didn't think of that. The DDs would've had a ball.

Hmmm, I like naps.:thumbsup2

Looking forward to it!

Now you tell me! :sad2:

So... enquiring minds want to know. Were you one of the "1 or 2" or one of the 'huddling desperately for warmth on the bus' folk?

Um, I was huddling for warmth. Jim says you would think we went to Alaska the way I keep complaining. :rotfl2: Anyone who knows me knows I am always cold, and I don't do cold. The scene in the water from Titanic to me is the worst scene ever! Must be the worst way to die! :cold:

:lmao:

Could'a been worse.... Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins, I tell ya.

Whoa. Sounds like you had a bit more wind then we did.

We heard it was almost a record, except for a Typhoon
I just stopped there more or less 'cause we were driving by. Glad I did.

Yes, it was a box cut out, now sealed over.,

A place we did not go. Can't wait to see your pics! :goodvibes

That was an amazing experience.

Hanauma Bay been there done that.. wanna go back lol.
I was just telling Jim I can't wait to go back and snorkel!
Love that you guys had a sort of drink.. kinda lol thats my girl!
I should have jumped behind the bar and taught him a thing or two!:goodvibes
So did you guys try and have the wind keep you up? thats my kind of adventure!:rolleyes1

No - I think we were afraid of broken teeth or something! Why don't you try it and let me know how it goes? :faint:

Love the pics makes me wanna go back!

Thanks! Makes me wanna go back, too!

Karin! Welcome Back! :cool1: How was your trip? I know I will see!

Thanks for the compliments. I kind of like them~ My youngest DS is coming home with his family on June 2nd! :woohoo: Haven't seen them for a year and a half!

I'm so glad you are enjoying the pictures! Go ahead, make that reservation, Karin - you know you want to ! :rotfl2:

Wow! I am really enjoying your tour with Jerry. What beautiful and fascinating places. So glad you battled the wind to get that view. Very cool.

So you ate lunch on the set for the 70's show? :happytv: So funny! What does it take to good a good mai tai? :confused3

I'm glad you're enjoying it!:yay: Yes, it was fun and it was a very rewarding site - even better now maybe, when I don't have the wind in my eyes!:rotfl2:

I was looking for Ashton but never saw him!:3dglasses I know! Pineapple juice and rum and more rum!pirate:

Love the football game pictures...even if it IS the Ducks (had to say that you know lol!).

That "mai tai" sounds downright frightening! But an otherwise fun tour (albeit WINDY) so far. Looking forward to more.

Back in 5th grade we studied Hawaii and I learned all about King Kamehameha and Queen Liliukilani (sp?)..... So when we visited Hawaii in 7th grade I was sooooo excited to see the statues and Punchbowl - isn't it the Arlington of the Pacific? How many 7th graders would be that enthralled with a cemetary? :confused3

Going to take notes. We plan on going in 2014 over Christmas break.

Oops missed this one - I hope you maybe get some new ideas!

It's good to be a Duck :goodvibes

I'm glad it wasn't my Mai Tai! :confused3

Thanks for reading!

7th graders who have been taught to respect our heritage and patriotism!:scratchin which isn't many. Yes, Punch bowl is the Arlington of the Pacific. Very moving.

Oh, and I don't think I ever got to study Hawaii - except maybe a little mention that it was a state.

Sorry for the delay - we are in the middle of moving out of our house - packing and throwing (things away, not at each other). I will seriously try to get some down time this weekend for another chapter - Happy Friday everyone!!!
