Wahines on Tour - Hawaii and peek at Aulani! LAST DAY IN THE SUNSHINE UPDATE 8/6

Lovin your laid back vacay!!!!

I hate that about homes in AZ.... when we first moved to FL, the same thing had been going on for awhile. Then the housing market crashed and what made it even worse was that these homes that "investors" had scooped up, were suddenly worth bubkus so they were then renting them out in very nice neighborhoods, and the next thing you know they are foreclosed, there are squatters living there.... it was really bad!

I said next time we transfer somewhere (hopefully NEVER!) we will rent for 6 months to get a good lay of the land...... It's so stressful!!! Here's a virtual mai tai hoping you find the perfect place!!! :drinking1

I had to :lmao: when I saw the size of your drink and you described how the server rang a bell to announce it! :rotfl2:
Sounds like a Disney Kitchen Sink! ;)

Sorry about the crab - we would not know what to do with a whole crab in the first place.

Can't wait to hear all about Disney Heaven. Tom has mentioned that in 2014 we "might" even hop over to Hawaii for a week.
I hope he sticks to his "decision" (not that I don't tell him about how nice it must be, ALL the time!)

It was pretty funny! :rotfl2:

Well, we don't either, but they bring you some tools, and you just get to work - it's usually worth it!:thumbsup2

Oh, I hope you do get to Disney Heaven soon!

Yep, we are a little afraid of that. Things are really changing there- the neighborhood where Jim's DB lives was quite populated with "bario" areas 8 months ago, and now those areas have been bought out and cleared, and builders are a buildin' It now looks like it's up and coming, and yet there are numerous new places for sale down the road that are only a couple of years old and such good prices that it is hard not to wonder what is going on :confused3

Yes, renting is a good choice, I think. Jim really wants to purchase now, but we are wanting to do a VA loan, and they are requiring we be living in the area and established at the job. I think I could enjoy renting at the resort for a little while.:cloud9:

We drove up and it looked promising, cuz usually "hole in the wall" places are great!
hole in the walls are usually the best! for drinks ! lol

Can you see the size of the drink on the table next to Jim? That is my Mai Tai! With it being happy hour, there were $4 appys, and $2 beer. I wanted a Mai Tai, and I had a choice of a small one for $6 or a "large size" for $8. Jim said I might as well get a larger one for $2 more.
I like JIM!

So before I know it, the server brings out this 1/2 gallon mug, stopping to ring a large bell, and a bunch of people start yelling "WHOA- OOO" When she delivered my drink, I asked what the bell was about - "Well, darlin' it's for you and your drink!" :rotfl2: My face was a little
Thats awesome, I want someone to rink a bell for me to drink!!! lol

I was happy to see a couple of minutes later that they brought Michelle a $2 beer the same size as my Mai Tai! I said, "Oh, good! Your drink is as big as mine - High five!" She laughed and said we were going to get along great! :goodvibes
Girls after my own heart!

I think Someone forgot to tell Wayne it was happy hour! :rotfl2:
I think he's a lil peaved his wife can out drink him!

We ordered Dungeoness Crab - it comes from the Oregon coast, and is sweet and delicious - what were we thinking?
Im going with the happy hour clouded your better judjement

Very disappointing, but the Mai Tai was good - :thumbsup2
then who cares about anything else if the drinks are good!:thumbsup2

Jim's being Iced Tea.
DD again.. what a nice guy taking one for the team!

So far, the winner in the Mai Tai category was still Hale Koa from the night before.
I think the only loser was Waynes lil beer!

Our next stop of the evening was to head further up the coast and check out AULANI!!!:yay:
cant wait to see

hey I resemble that remark LOL

huh never knew they required you to live in the area with a job for the VA.. guess it makes sense but what if your moving there from a duty station while getting out the military.. not that I am ever moving again until its to a nice beach resort!

It could be the area it's in. AZ was hit so hard in the housing market, maybe they are being extra cautious. I know they are really particular about some other details.

I thought I would post an update tonight, but I got busy reading Ellen's updates I had missed, and now I'd better get to bed. I will do one tomorrow, scout's honor. (really not sorry I caught up with Ellen at all!)

:rotfl::rotfl: Well that's crazy!! I want to hear about Aulani WAAAAAY more than I want to hear about what I did!! :rotfl:

I was up last night finishing Hunger Games- I read it in a day, and that's with 3 baseball games thrown in while I read! What a great book- now I can go see the movie- unfortunately, I just realized I can't go until next week. I have dieting issues due to the upcoming cruise with Skinny Kara. I don't want to be anywhere NEAR that theatre this week (it's the one with the recliners and wine. And potato skins. Nuff said.).

Very impressive Mai Tai- can't wait to have one when I arrive!

cant beat happy our on the islands its about the only way you can afford to eat out on vacation there.
:thumbsup2

Okay, ALEX - (the name on the message that says you are updating the server almost every night  My link to my last page is broken, I posted a long update with lots of pics, as well as responses, and as I hit up date I got the above message. I don't know if any of it is even here. I can't get a color here, either. Please stop updating/breaking the DIS!

Well, my post from last night is missing also, but at least you got to read it. In following up on adventures in dining in Hawaii theme . . .We returned to Hilton H. V. 2 days later. Prior to being seated, I was assured that, yes, fish was available on the menu that day. So I ordered the fish (finally). However, they were out of asparagus as the vegetable!! I could ONLY have swiss chard, as stated by our waiter. NO other vegetable to go with my fish! When I started my quiet, small rant my daughter told my to hush, " it's not his fault".
Then my daughter ordered her entre (not fish) and asked if she could sub carrots as her vegetable... the waiter said "Yes" !! :rotfl: :confused3
Again, another lava flow was needed here!! :rotfl: :yay: At Aulani, they did not disappoint and had everything!

Totally fell off the wagon today..... But trying to drop this cruise weight so I can add it back on in 24 days!!!!

Sorry Tammie, didn't mean to hijack. Carry on. :thumbsup2

Okay, I can see that Kara posted, but it will not let me get to the next page to read it.:headache:

Wis2inTink - that's funny!:rotfl2: I think Hawaii is kind of like Mexico or some other Island places - laid back and just a little less worried about details. "Don't worry, be happy - or Hang Ten" or something like that!:goodvibes

Jumping on board.

Hi! Thanks for joining in! :yay:

Hi Kara - There you are! You are welcome to Hijack anytime - keeps the conversation going!:goodvibes I fell off the wagon today, too - BK chicken sand for lunch, pizza hut for dinner - oh well, tomorrow is another day.

I'm behind on my comments... but here I am now! Probably my last one for a bit as we leave for Hawaii early (No, wait. That needs to be capitalized...) EARLY Saturday morning.

We returned poor kidnapped Jesse to his parents and we all discussed where we wanted to have dinner.

Were they relieved to get their kidnap victim back? Or sad that alone time was over? :lmao:

The boys had heard from several other guys that Dixie Grill just up the road had great food and happy hour! :drinking1 so Dixie Grill it was!

Can't go wrong with happy hour!

We drove up and it looked promising, cuz usually "hole in the wall" places are great!

I love 'em... the rest of the family, not so much.

It was a BBQ and crab shack, and advertised crab on the sign, so it sounded promising.

Too bad you didn't get a T-shirt that said, "I got crabs in Hawaii".

Or maybe not.

Can you see the size of the drink on the table next to Jim? That is my Mai Tai!

:cool1:

I think Someone forgot to tell Wayne it was happy hour! :rotfl2:

Ya gotta look cool, don'tcha? No smiling!!!

We ordered Dungeoness Crab - it comes from the Oregon coast, and is sweet and delicious - what were we thinking? Wanting fresh Oregon crab when we are in Hawaii?:confused3:rotfl:

 My DMom always told me "Don't go to a steak house and order fish." Reminds me of the time I took the DDs to a seafood place and DD15 orders a hotdog. :sad2:

The crab was a whole boiled crab, with a side of cole slaw and boiled potatoes. It was not fresh. In fact, it was mushy and stale tasting. I'm guessing either it was freezer burned or caught during mating season or both.

ewww... I guess that's what you get when you order something from the other side of the ocean.

We started wondering why this place was so highly recommended:confused3 We decided it must be the booze!

Well, that's certainly a good enough reason, don't you think? ;)

Our next stop of the evening was to head further up the coast and check out AULANI!!!:yay:

NEXT: This Must be Disney Heaven :cloud9:

Can't wait! :goodvibes

Although I might see it before I get a chance to read your review of it!

pkondz! So excited for you! :woohoo: I had a post done with all kinds of pics of Aulani - two more updates so far.... and the DIS went down - I can't even get to this page without posting a reply, and I can't get my red color. If I don't get another chance, ALOHA! have a great time and I would love to see a TR when you get back!

Camille - it was quite shocking! But it was actually pretty weak, so I was okay. ;)
