Wahines on Tour - Hawaii and peek at Aulani! LAST DAY IN THE SUNSHINE UPDATE 8/6

Ah, so sad it's over, Tammie! :sad2:

I really enjoyed reading about Hawaii and I found out that I have so much to learn about it. :rotfl2:
Hope all your moving is working out well and I really hope you stick with me through my next trip report .... we're leaving on Saturday for another 4 weeks of Disney fun! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for reading Karin! It has been wonderful to have you along!
Of course I will be reading along with you - I always enjoy your reports so much, even if they do make me hungry!:rotfl2: If I miss your send off, have a wonderful time and hurry back - or not :lmao: - to start writing!

Oops! I forgot to post the rest of the contest and announce the winner before signing off! I will get to that very soon! In the mean time talk amongst yourselves...;).

Thank you Ellen! ((hugs)) Having trouble with the smileys :goodvibes My knee is getting better - I'm trying some water aerobics - I have learned from the docs that strengthening and stretching help these things heal :thumbsup2

::yes:: You are so right, girl. I had to do this last year in PT, it made suuuuuch a difference. :thumbsup2 Hope it feels better soon.

I'll tell you, if had been on that hike I would have done more than lost my top! I think I would have blown it!! That would not have been my cup of tea either. I don't mind a good hike, infact I love hiking, just not in mud up to my knees.

I have so enjoyed having you here to liven up the conversation! Thanks for being here!

::yes:: Pondzi is a lot of fun!! He's always livening things up over on Nebo's reports. :goodvibes

So glad you got to experience going to the Island, maybe next time will be dry. :thumbsup2

Thank you! I'm so happy you're here, too!:flower3:

Tammie, that shrimp sounded really good. Maybe I will get to try it one day! Not sure I can get into sucking the spices off the outside before I peel and eat though!:confused3

We have lots of trails and hills and hikes to waterfalls around here, but I don't even like trying those when it has been raining and you just have to deal with wet leaves. That is bad enough, but ankle deep mud sounds like no fun at all. :headache:

I'm with you on the breakfast. I think I would go with the macadamia nut pancakes too over the rice and gravy. I'm just one of those people that no matter what time I get up, my first meal of the day has to be "breakfast" food!!! :rotfl2:

Those pictures from Hanauma Bay look wonderful. Such beautiful sites all over Hawaii. Haven't had a chance to snorkel before, but would love to try it sometime and that looks like a great spot to do it. Can't believe you managed to break your snorkel as soon as you got it though........... :rolleyes1

Glad you had the chance to get in some final Mai Tai's and pineapple spears before you left! Two very important items when you are in Hawaii for sure!!! :goodvibes

Enjoyed following along on your adventure. :thumbsup2

This is a dumb question, but I just want to confirm -- those bullet marks are from the Pearl Harbor attack? Wow!

Cool marketplace...another place I may have to remember. Or have you remind me of.

Thanks so much for writing your adventures. It was a great and informative TR!

you can put everyone out of there misery and just let them know i won the contest.

good luck on the move.

i really enjoyed your report thanks for sharing it with us.
:thumbsup2

Seems like it would kind of take away your appetitie, huh?

We knew about the slippery mud from living in Okinawa - same climate only hotter. Our travel companions didn't - so they ran ahead - what do you do :confused3

Yes, you can't leave HI without a goodbye MaiTai! Thanks for reading, Marv! and for commenting. I am behind on your TR, but now that mine is wrapping up, I can get caught up, I hope.

Dan! I saw your post and thought - "must finish contest" :rotfl2: no time tonight - I'll look at it tomorrow! Scout's honor!

This is a dumb question, but I just want to confirm -- those bullet marks are from the Pearl Harbor attack? Wow!

Yes - pretty much one morning, I believe. :scared:

Cool marketplace...another place I may have to remember. Or have you remind me of.

I'll send you my bucket list. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for writing your adventures. It was a great and informative TR!

Thank you so much, Glenn. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Oh Bother! I can't remember where I left of revealing points, but I totaled them with your answers before I started revealing answers way back like in April... so without further ado - our BIG winner is ....drum roll please.... Ellen! :yay::yay: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Dan was a close 2nd!

Here is a summary of how the bucket list turned out for me:

1. Visited Pearl Harbor
2. Snorkeled at Hanauma Bay
3 Hiked to a waterfall, but no picnic-
4. Ate lots of pineapple AND visited Dole
5. Did NOT take a Sunset Dinner Cruise
6. Did Attend a Luau
7. Did check out Aulani - but not their show
8. Did not shop at the fleamarket, but did shop at International Market
(The rules committee reconsidered on this one, International Market falls under "whatever that is" because I realize after viewing my pics, I thought the flea market and Int. mkt were one and the same before I left - Adjustments have been made.
9. Visited some historical places on our tour and at Pearl Harbor
10. I did not swim with Dolphins

Here are your answers as you gave them to me, with scores added:

Disboard Game

Marv: 10 points
Okay, I'll try to play along but not sure how well I can keep up. Things have been crazy at work lately, and will only get moreso between now and some time in June. Not sure where all the time has gone lately.

1. Pearl Harbor - Of course. You can't go to Hawaii without doing this one.1
2. Snorkel at Hanauma Bay- I'm guessing didn't get to. Either time or something else stood in the way. Alison and I were supposed to snorkel while we were there and they cancelled the trip because we were the only two signed up.
3. Hike (mild, mind you ) to a waterfall for a picnic - hiked, but no picnic1+1
4. Eat lots of pineapple -maybe visit the Dole Plantation - Can't avoid the pineapple, and there it is so fresh and delicious! Guessing you didn't make the Dole Plantation1
5. Sunset Dinner Cruise - did it
6. Attend a Luau – absolutely1
7. Check out Aulani - I guess they have a free "luau type show" on Wed. - absolutely, ABSOLUTELY!1
8. Shop at the big flea market or whatever that is??? - hmmm, women and shopping?? Was this supposed to be a trick question? I'll say YES! 1
9. Visit some historical places or a museum (pre-dating PH) – yes1
10. Maybe swim with Dolphins? - I'll guess didn't make this one1

"Wahines" Little Game....Glennbo answers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Pearl Harbor

Yes, that's a "must do" and plus there's a picture of the sign in your Intro post.1

2. Snorkel at Hanauma Bay

I'm going to guess No.

3. Hike (mild, mind you ) to a waterfall for a picnic

Yes.1

4. Eat lots of pineapple -maybe visit the Dole Plantation

Yes.1

5. Sunset Dinner Cruise

Yes. I'll predict that you booked it ahead of the trip, so of course you went.

6. Attend a Luau

Yes.1

7. Check out Aulani - I guess they have a free "luau type show" on Wed.

Yes. I would think this is a "must do" for a DISer, but the "I guess" in the way you worded the question has me worried that it didn't happen. But still, I have to go with "Yes".1

8. Shop at the big flea market or whatever that is???

Yes, you did this for a little while. 1

9. Visit some historical places or a museum (pre-dating PH)

Again, Yes, you did this for a little while.1

10. Maybe swim with Dolphins?

I'll guess No.1

Thanks for the game!!

ELLEN:12
My uneducated guesses!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:

1. Pearl Harbor Yes- duh1

2. Snorkel at Hanauma Bay No- you may have visited, but too cold to snorkle with the rain - and all churned up from the rain.0

3. Hike (mild, mind you ) to a waterfall for a picnic no- rain made it too muddy to hile to a waterfall?+1(Bonus point here, because the rain DID make it too muddy, but we are "those people" from the local news :lmao:

4. Eat lots of pineapple -maybe visit the Dole Plantation yes and yes1+1

5. Sunset Dinner Cruise no- too much rain and too rough from the storm, but I'm not sure.....1

6. Attend a Luau Well, I know you did this because you said you did, so I feel like I'm cheating by saying yes!1

7. Check out Aulani - I guess they have a free "luau type show" on Wed. Feel like I'm cheating again, but yes, you did visit, but no, you didn't see the show (I hear it gets switched around alot because of the weather). But I hope you did something else fun there!!1+1

8. Shop at the big flea market or whatever that is???
Yes- because you had to do something that wasn't shut down by rain? 1

9. Visit some historical places or a museum (pre-dating PH)

Yes definitely! Probably hard not to, there's alot of history on that island!1

10. Maybe swim with Dolphins? Hmmmmm......well, I hope you did, but I'm going to say no. But I can tell you, although expensive, this is an incredible experience you need to do at least once in your lifetime!! 1

PKondz: 10
--------------------------------------------------------
ok, here's my picks....
1. Pearl Harbor Done.1

2. Snorkel at Hanauma Bay Done.1

3. Hike (mild, mind you ) to a waterfall for a picnic Partially done. I'm guessing that you did some hiking but maybe the diamond head hike and not the waterfall one.0

4. Eat lots of pineapple -maybe visit the Dole Plantation Done eating. Not done Dole Plantation... ran out of time.1out of 2

5. Sunset Dinner Cruise Done.

6. Attend a Luau Done. I think it's a state crime for visitors to Hawaii to leave the island(s) without attending a luau.1

7. Check out Aulani - I guess they have a free "luau type show" on Wed. Definitely done.1

8. Shop at the big flea market or whatever that is??? Not done. Unless you mean International Market, then done, but may not have bought anything there.... so partial.1+1 for guessing IM -

9. Visit some historical places or a museum (pre-dating PH) Done. Visited a historical place.1

10. Maybe swim with Dolphins? Not done. You found that you have to basically sell your first born in order to afford it. And while that might be tempting to some parents, you resisted.1+1 bonus

Thank you for playing! Ellen will be named Queen for the Day at a future date, and will be awarded a major prize!

I won?? I WON!!!! Sooooo exciting! I really miss the smilies on this dis app - but there would be plenty of them if i could post them-

Anywho.....i am so glad you got to go to hanauma- i don't think we will be , we've decided to scuba on the north shore instead ( i have read hanauma is crazy crowded in summer, and i hate getting kicked when i snorkel). I really do hope you get to go back with Jim, alone- and PLEASE pay the $10 for Waimea Falls AND go to a decent seafood restaurant when you do! We leave ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW! I already have my clothes ready and waiting to be put in my suitcase. :)

Totally looking forward to being QUeen for a day with my prize, lol!

well i dont want to say you cant count. lol, but according to my math, i would say there is a tie for 11 points for the win?

:rolleyes1

but if the prize is a queen for the day you can keep the current scores. lol

Congrats! Wow! scuba at North Shore - that will be an adventure!:thumbsup2 IKWYM about getting kicked while snorkeling. It is hard to snorkel there anyway, because of the shallow water over the reefs. Yet alone trying to dodge 500 children.

Yay for one week!!!! :cool1::woohoo::yay::dance3::cheer2:

MUCH more real that way! :dance3:
