Wading in Flip Flops...Day 7 Part 5: What's not to like about....UPDATE 28.2

Oh my goodness, sounds like a dramatic few weeks :scared1:
Hope things are on the up now for you and I for one would love to hear more of your fab TR :goodvibes
Oh and book another trip to WDW, that'll cheer you up :thumbsup2

I'm up for more too!! :thumbsup2

Loved reading your report so far, and had been wondering if you were OK, and what had happened...

So sorry to hear you've been through the wars in so many ways :scared1: :grouphug:
Sending you lots of pixie dust that everything works out - and better than before! pixiedust: You know what they say... There is no need for revenge, Karma will sort everything out, and if you're lucky, you'll even get to watch :lmao:

Bring on the bus-stop photos!!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the concern :goodvibes It's all very odd in terms of work but my foot is alot better - still hurts 4 months later but definitely improving thank goodness! Clearly your pixie dust is working already :thumbsup2 I do like that karma philosophy :rotfl2:

Really happy you want to continue reading so as a special treat.....

A very dramatic few weeks, you are not wrong!

Another trip to WDW....hmmm....well I have to admit we did have a short trip to DLRP over the Easter break but that was experienced on crutches :confused3 - decidedly interesting - although quite handy getting in the disabled entrances...ahem...

Hoping that WDW might just make a little appearance next year....ok, who am I kidding....we're going back next year. No details yet though - believe you me, as soon as I know....you know....:cool1:

I've actually just finished reading your most recent dining report and loved it. Remy on the cruise sounds incredible - very jealous but glad you had an amazing trip :)

Thanks for persevering with my TR. :goodvibes

So.....where were we? Ah yes, Animal Kingdom, Day 6 in a series of 21...and I think we had just left the Pangani Forest trail....

We left the trail and popped over to the nearest shop where there were some fab beaded animals for sale. DD fell in love with a beaded chameleon (ok if it takes that long to spell every word...we could be here for a veeeery looooong tiiiiime) and she decided she wanted to spend some of her 'cash' on it. Who are we to deprive our daughter of a chameleon (needed to make the most of the effort of working out how to spell the blooming thing...) - so as soon as she had made her purchase, she of course needed the loo so she and I left DH to find the nearest toilets. On our return could we find DH? No...we looked....and looked....and looked...you get the picture...it took us about 5 minutes to find him. This probably doesn't sound like much to you but I am a relatively dramatic person  and believe you me my brain had managed to come up with some fairly incredible scenarios as to what had happened; eaten by a tiger; mobbed by squirrels; run off with Minnie....who knows???? ...sometimes I hate my brain....I think sometimes DH hates my brain too.... :sad2:

Next up was a fantastic, fantastic part of our Animal Kingdom day - really surprised us...and I am fond of a nice surprise....

AKTrainback.jpg

We hopped on the train over to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Now, in 2009 we had been on this train, but more as a 'bit of a sit down' - I don't think we even disembarked....yes, I am ashamed now. This time we ended up spending ages in conservation station:

AKSpottheDifference.jpg

There's the baboon....oh yes...and Rafiki too...sorry...too obvious???

AKConservationStation.jpg

*** A brief interlude...please excuse me...DH has just come over and read the opening of this installment and is insistent that I clarify that he didn't run off with Minnie or get mauled by Safari animals....he was in fact waiting patiently outside the loos like a dutiful husband....I hope you are all reassured that his penchant for ginormous mice didn't take over completely....as if you didn't realise??? the buffoon...I mean....who else would put up with a man who photographs bus stops....hmmm???? :lmao:***

We really had no preconceptions about this area which was kind of refreshing. Once inside DD had the chance to meet the real Rafiki and Jimminy Cricket (I kept a close, close eye on DH :rotfl2:)

AKRafiki.jpg

AKJiminy.jpg

She also got up close and personal with a baby alligator...

DSCF0947.jpg

We then had a general wander around the area. At that point, we discovered the most fantastic quiz ever....and I mean EVER!

DSCF0950.jpg

Catchy title or what???? :lmao: Goodness it made me laugh....and of course...the invitation to play was just too strong....

AKPoo.jpg

DD is certainly not squeamish...yet...I am anticipating that there will be a day relatively soon when she asks what she's holding....bwah hah hah....

In my series of photos saved under ridiculous titles (Lift Beaver being one of them...) this one is saved as AKPoo - nice :thumbsup2 The cast member who was on that particular 'game' was absolutely lovely and extremely knowledgeable about poo...I bet her parents are proud...I'd love to be at that family do...

GUEST: So what is .....doing now?
MUM: She works for Disney...
GUEST (extremely jealously of course ;)): Really! How fantastic. Is she a character? Does she man one of the rides?
MUM: No, she specialises in poo...
GUEST: Winnie the....
MUM: No, no. Animal poo.
Abrupt end to conversation. :lmao:

Anyway...moving swiftly on...after talking a whole load of poo...ahem....we walked past the treatment room which was fascinating. Again, the Cm was more than willing to talk to us and explain about both the routine examinations and more intensive treatments that are undergone. They had a selection of great Xrays on display; a snake that had swallowed a golf ball; a duck that had swallowed 3 dimes; a tortoise who had smashed it's shell and had it restructured with wire and screws - really fascinating (the last time I saw an Xray like that was when my brother was about 7 and he swallowed a rather large dome screw from one of his Tonka lorries...) On the wall, was a schedule of examinations which the general public can watch (there is a constant rolling programme of examinations) It is all very open - there are blinds all around the large windows which we presumed was to shut away particularly intense operations etc but apparently not. According to the CM, the blinds are there for 2 reasons:
1) If any birds escape, they don't fly into the glass
and
2) So if maintenance is going on, the guests don't have to watch "butt on a step ladder"

Her words ladies and gents, not mine!!!! :lmao:

YEAH your back and with an awesome update. SO sorry to hear about your troubles though, re-living your Disney trip will cheer you up though!

Thankyou :flower3: It has been great re-reading the notes I wrote - they're fairly comprehensive and, yes, very cheering :goodvibes Glad you're happy to keep tagging along.

I'm looking forward to you sharing it with me :goodvibes More coming soon and I'm hoping to do the next day in a shorter number of posts....

:thumbsup2 I'm glad to be back - thankyou!!! I'll try and keep the style (whatever it might be ;)) Plenty more pics of daft daughter to come. :goodvibes Glad you're back with me :)

so glad you're back. I really really missed your report. Sorry you had a bit of a bad time but you must be feeling on the up now tobe doing this again.
I subcribed to your thread and when it popped up in my emails that you were back I thought 'fab now for some fun times'
LOVE that quiz at AK it made me laugh out loud and DH just told me to shush! :rotfl:

Suitably amused by the prospect of 'butt on a stepladder', we carried on round conservation station into the nutrition section. You don't get any points for guessing that this part had examples of food fed to the animals, however if you also guessed that there would be a display of animal skulls, then well done - extra points for you... and you know what points mean... hmmm... I am a little confused about the combination of nutrition and skulls...surely, surely an animal that is only a skull is a classic example of anti-nutrition...:confused3

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF0953.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF0953.jpg" border="0" alt="7.8.11 photo DSCF0953.jpg"/></a>

I've posted the picture of the giraffe skull, because it surprised me (and no it didn't jump and shout 'boo') - now call me stupid (alright, not all at once...;)) but I really didn't know that the horns of a giraffe were bone...I presumed they were cartilage or something...but no, bone they are. The picture is proof! Either that or the CMs at conservation station have gone in for a really elaborate gag....I kind of like that idea too....:rotfl2:Again the CMs (probably through sympathy because I fell for the hilarious 'giraffe horns are made of bone' joke) were very informative and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. DD also got to play with one of these (no, it's not a skull, I'm not that bad a mother...)

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKOstrichEgg.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKOstrichEgg.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo AKOstrichEgg.jpg"/></a>

So, as I say, we spent absolutely yonks at conservation station before getting the train back. We originally wanted to go back during our stay to watch one of the examinations, but for some reason it never happened. DH and I can not remember why we never got back there...answers on a postcard please...

We headed over to Kali River Rapids but were severely distracted by Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade that happened to be coming past. Well, it would have been rude not to stop :thumbsup2

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/JamminJungleTiger.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/JamminJungleTiger.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo JamminJungleTiger.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF0970.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF0970.jpg" border="0" alt="7.8.11 photo DSCF0970.jpg"/></a>

We've never seen this parade before, and now I never want to miss it. I looove the floats - so imaginative and creative - they reminded me a little of the style of puppetry that's used in the stage version of Warhorse (if you've not seen it, save all your pennies and GO - it's incredible!) So, onto Kali - DD was able to ride it and we did get wet, but nowhere near as badly as last time (thank goodness - no shorts ringing out required ;))

Lastly, before we exited the park, we had a quick trip round Maharajah Jungle Trek - I really like the theming of this area.

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKMaharajahJungleTrek.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKMaharajahJungleTrek.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo AKMaharajahJungleTrek.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKTheming.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKTheming.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo AKTheming.jpg"/></a>

Of course we had to check out the stinky bats - I love them really (why don't they do a smilie that wafts its nose?)

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/Bat.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/Bat.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo Bat.jpg"/></a>

And then we had to play hunt the daughter...

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKPeepo.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/AKPeepo.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo AKPeepo.jpg"/></a>

It really was extremely hot (I know...Florida....August....not going to be cold...) so we headed over to the exit via frozen lemonade...yum - although I didn't get much of a look in thanks to guzzle guts DD - I love her really :lovestruc

We drove back to WL and popped into RF for tea for DD (we were still too stuffed (I originally typed that as struffed - what on earth is struffing? - sounds fun...:lmao:)) She had a tuna sandwich with fries and jelly - not all at once - in fact we saved the jelly and put it in our room fridge...bet you wanted to know that...hmmm? There then began a torrential rainstorm - some of them were totally awesome this holiday.

It was a quick shower before bedtime for DD and then yes...it was balcony o'clock for me and DH....ahhh...Miller Lites (in the funky metal bottles - I like them!) We watched the storm a bit more...well, until it ended, strangely enough...

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF1067.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/AK%207-8-11/DSCF1067.jpg" border="0" alt="7.8.11 photo DSCF1067.jpg"/></a>

...and I wrote my trip notes. We also indulged in some other drinkies...

DH: Red Hook, Mojito (bleeaargh - I will say now that I think Mojitos are grim...I detest mint....it is the food of the devil....well, that and ginger...) Pina Colava.
Me: Pinot Grigio, Pear Martini, Kentucky Peach.

We were very badly behaved and didn't have a proper dinner (what would our mums say??:rotfl2:) but insted, filled up on Lays, Spicy Mickey Mix and nacho cheese dip...soooo wrong....but soooo right!!! :cool1:

I unfortunately ended the evening feeling like a total idiot as I went down to the Territory Lounge for the last round of drinks and on the way back, got in the lift where there was already a couple. This was fine until, when exiting the lift, I went the same way as them, before realising it was the wrong way...doh... I then had to go throught the whole ridiculous debacle of slowing down so that I could change direction without drawing too much attention to myself... all whilst holding two cocktails... classy...

Yup...total twonk!! :lmao: Nothing like a bit of elusion (is that a word??) to round off an evening! :rotfl:

so glad you're back. I really really missed your report. Sorry you had a bit of a bad time but you must be feeling on the up now tobe doing this again.

LOVE that quiz at AK it made me laugh out loud and DH just told me to shush! :rotfl:

Thanks for missing my report...I have to say, you guys at the Dis are definitely helping in the whole 'feeling better' stakes. :goodvibes I hope I don't let you down in having fun times - I'll try my best ;)

I think when I saw the quiz name for the first time there was a distinct quantity of loud embarrassing guffawing...brilliant! Very impressed you had to be shushed....:lmao:

Glad you're back too...:wave2:

I too am so glad you're back...we started out our holiday being really healthy with fruit for breakfast and then towards the end we were having mickie rice krispie treats or chocolate macadamia cupcakes instead ;-)
So I'm totally ok with having lays and cheesedip for dinner ;-)

I can't quite see your ticker at the bottom of your signature, are you going back to WDW anytime soon or is that still an old ticker?

You know they aren't any calories in Disney, Walt banned them !!! So you can eat what you like ! ............. If only !

love the photo of your DD peeping around the rock/urn/thing.

I really fancy some jelly now which is quite odd at 8.20am.

"Match The Feces With The Species" ............ there's a TV show in there somewhere, it could re-vitalise Dale Winton's career :lmao:

Thanks :thumbsup2 for wanting me back. It's a downward spiral once it starts...but gosh it's a fun spiral...!!!

We went back to DLRP this year for four days but have nothing definite to report about a return to WDW....yet....there is A LOT of discussion going on...I mean A LOT :cool1: As soon as there is anything concrete to report...I will be on here like a shot!!!!

You know they aren't any calories in Disney, Walt banned them !!! So you can eat what you like ! ............. If only !

If only indeed....although I think I might just make that the philosophy anyway....less guilt that way... Thanks! :flower3:

I think she looks really mischievous in that photo! Oh yeah....that's because she is....I think it was a brief foray into hide and seek...possibly not the best game to play next to a tiger enclosure....glad I only just thought of that...phew!

Jelly at 8.20...what flavour??? :rotfl:

"Match The Feces With The Species" ............ there's a TV show in there somewhere, it could re-vitalise Dale Winton's career :lmao:

This idea seriously just killed me! :lmao: Dale Winton...there's a blast from the past... I now want to go ahead and plan this whole show in minute detail. It would definitely have Z list celebrity specials....Am also trying to imagine the phenomenal costumes that would be designed...I reckon this idea's got some legs :rotfl2: Thank you for making me laugh incredibly hard!

:cheer2: FINALLY!!! I hear you cry...it's only taken about 7 years...but she's finally on another day. It feels like we have been in the Animal Kingdom for an absolute age and in fact both DH and DD have celebrated another year of their lives since I first began writing about Day 6....ok that's not sounding too great...moving on....:rotfl2:

Day 7....Woohoo! Daaaaayyyyy 7...... and I have just noticed that I have not used a banana for a very long time.... (not a sentence I will be sharing with anyone else other than you guys....)...cue... That's better...ah!

So, having left Animal Kingdom, old and grey, we woke at 7.15 the following morning ready for a day at Epcot. Now, I am sure DH and I are not alone in the frequent 'What's your favourite park?' conversation. Although all of the parks have their pros and cons (not many I admit :lovestruc) and surely with any Disney fanatic Magic Kingdom must hold a special place....I think if push came to shove...Epcot would probably top both mine and DH's list. It's so varied and the World Showcase is just incredible. So, needless to say, we were fairly excited to be having our first proper day there (you'll remember that we went to Le Cellier for lunch earlier in the trip....oh no, you won't remember...I wrote about that 7 years ago...:scratchin)

So after waking, DH made coffee as DD and I got ourselves organised for the morning. DD was particularly excited as we had a breakfast reservation at Akershus...princesses here we come! Strangely enough, DH wasn't quite as thrilled...:rotfl:

DD wanted to wear the very cute dress we'd bought her in Animal Kingdom the previous day (no, amazingly, given the length of time we were clearly there...she hadn't grown out of it...)

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/Cutie.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/Cutie.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo Cutie.jpg"/></a>

I think she wears hot and sweaty very well for a four year old...:upsidedow

It's possibly worth mentioning at this juncture, that some of the photos (including the one above) are from our photopass...we thought photopass was fab and some of the shots, particularly of DD :goodvibes, are brilliant!

We hopped on a bus and it wasn't long before we were headed for the Norway pavillion in the peculiarly empty park. We had to wait a short while before our names were called but that gave me just enough time to snap a couple of shots...

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/DSCF1071.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/DSCF1071.jpg" border="0" alt="8.8.11 photo DSCF1071.jpg"/></a>

and of course...no don't panic...it's not a Norwegian bus stop...it was me with the camera...not DH

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/EpcotSquirrel.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/EpcotSquirrel.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo EpcotSquirrel.jpg"/></a>

Yeah!!!!

So, our first stop, once inside the building, was to wait in line to see Belle and have photos taken.

It occured to me that if we make this a fairly regular event it will be really odd to look at all of the Belle and DD photos at once - DD gradually growing up and Belle not changing at all (other than being a totally different person each time...but meh...I'm not going to pick holes...) - I like the idea of Belle aging too...a few more wrinkles each time...maybe some crows feet appearing...some middle age spread...perhaps her dress becoming a little moth eaten and tatty...now that would be an amazing set of photos............no takers???? Ok, I'll keep that idea on the back burner....

Having given that long ramble about the Belle/DD photo....I don't even have it scanned to post it....oops! Sorry....might be able to rectify that if I talk nicely to DH....could well appear in another post....I will, of course, attempt to place it at a totally inappropriate moment...maybe in the middle of SeaWorld or something...hmmmm....thinks.....:scratchin

We really enjoy the breakfast here and helped ourselves to the cold buffet (smoked salmon, cheese, fruit, pastries) before being brought a plate of sausage, bacon (I know Disney bacon is notorious but I don't mind it....I find its whole bendiness fairly appealing....should I admit to that?.....), potato and scrambled egg. Whilst consuming our body weight in breakfast foods, the main attractions appeared. Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White and Ariel graced us with the presence and were more than happy to have photos and sign autographs. DD went strangely quiet as is evident in the photos...

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/Aurora.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/Aurora.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo Aurora.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s1140.beta.photobucket.com/user/Scoobymoons/media/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/SnowWhite.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n577/Scoobymoons/WDW%202011/Epcot%208-8-11/SnowWhite.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo SnowWhite.jpg"/></a>

There were ones with the other two princesses but they came out very oddly...
It was during this meal we discovered DD's vocation in life...a lady on the table next to us asked DD which princesses was her favourite and DD replied "They're all my favourite" - a diplomat at four ladies and gentlemen!! I still think she'll be a fishmonger (have I said about DD and fish??? :fish:) but maybe if that doesn't work out, she can be a diplomat....:lmao:

So, breakfast done, we rolled our way back to Future World/Land/Ville/The other part that isn't World Showcase ....OMG....total mental block...Epcot shouldn't be allowed at the top of my favourite park list - total and abject failure...I am not a true fan...

Our first port of call was The Land....for Soarin' - I loooooove this ride....at that moment in time it was definitely top of my favourite ride list....I say 'at that moment' advisedly... would it stay top??? Hmmm??? (at least I can remember its name I suppose....) Much to our sheer joy, DD was tall enough...:cheer2: In 2009, DH and I had to ride Soarin' separately....Much as this was sad, it did allow a little pixie dust moment to happen to DD and I... Whilst DH went on the ride, DD and I bought a Mickey Bar and sat in Sunshine Seasons intending to pass the time eating (or smearing in DD's case - quick reminder...she was 2) ice cream. Well, it must have literally been a minute since we had sat down before the Mickey Bar ended up on the floor....aaaarrrgghhh. Now, that might not sound like an issue but our push chair was outside, I had been left with all of the paraphenalia, plus DD. There was no way I could carry her and all the stuff and juggle with an ice cream bar, and pay etc....it was not possible. It was also not possible for me to leave her to replace said Mickey Bar. Equally, I was now stuck with an ice cream obsessed and now ice cream deprived child...not a good situation. So anyway, I noticed that a family next to us was about to go up to buy some food, so I bravely proffered my money towards them and, very very politely, explained my predicament and asked if they wouldn't mind taking my money and buying a Mickey Bar as well as what they were already getting... Well, they were more than happy to do this and suggested they get it and then let me know the cost once they had the receipt...I was immensely grateful and relieved and it was a matter of minutes before the chap who went to buy it had returned and handed it to DD. My immediate reaction was to grasp money and fling it in their direction...would they take it??? Not at all... as they parted they just said it was nice to buy an ice cream for a cute little girl... pixiedust: I was stunned...Pixie Dust or what.

Much as we've only just reached Soarin', and at the risk of being in Epcot for even longer than Animal Kingdom...I like that tale as it's a good example of what WDW does to human nature... so I'm going to leave it there for now. Back to 2011 in the next installment :teleport:

Woo hoo, another great installment !!
DD looks so cute in her fab new dress, she even out-cutes the princesses :)
Love the story about the Mickey bar :)

loving it. :)

looking forward to the rest of Epcot.:thumbsup2

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Your daughter is just so cute:goodvibes
