This may be off topic for the W.I.S.H. board, but I couldn't really find an answer on the Tips, Budget boards.

I couldn't tell if the DISer that was posting was petite and not weighing more than 120 pounds or 180 pounds.

I have different requirements since I'm a Papa-Bear-Pooh size DISer...lol.

Do you have any friends or relatives that are my size that really like a certain sandal.

I need one that will support my weight, and that will be comfortable to walk in at home and in the ocean or pool or at Walt Disney World.

I may have to buy two separate sandals, one for walking that stay dry, and one that can be worn in water.

If you are wondering why I might need to wear something on my feet while I'm in the ocean or pool, I don't ave much feeling on the bottom of my right foot. One time I was walking with a small piece of glass stuck in the bottom of my foot and I didn't know about until hours later when I started feeling pain.

So what kind of sandals would you suggest for Papa-Bear-Pooh RaySharpton...lol.?

Have you tried Birkenstocks? They're good in both wet and dry....

Good luck Ray!!

Tevas!!! I love mine and they fit my wide foot great!!

I am on my second pairs of these Circuit Leathers and I love them! I get them wet on rides and it is no big deal. A pair usually lasts me 3 - 4 yrs. Check out their web site www.teva.com for more styles. They have hiking, walking, water sandals. You can check the dealer locator to find a store near you so you can check sizes. I have found mine at Just For Feet and Sports Authority.

Hope this helps, Papa Bear Pooh Ray!

I love my Teva's as well. I have the same type but there are many styles. It is best to try them on because I know what I found comfortable my DH didn't. He liked a different style.

Thank you for the replies.

Boy, I'm having a hard time trying to post tonight. I think that the techies are starting to work on the DIS stuff already...lol.

Thank you Flower, I've never tried Birkenstocks before. Does yours have a heel strap?

Thank you geetey and Susan 514 for your advice on the Tevas. And thank you geetey for the picture and website, too. Do you think that the tevas will support my very heavy weight so that my heel won't slide to the side? I guess what I am trying to say is that is the sandel very stable so I won't spain my ankle?

Any more suggestions?

I'm going to look at the website, now. I'll try to post later, but it is starting to get difficult with my WebTV(MSNTV)...lol.

I think the Tevas would be great for you, Ray. You can adjust those straps in multiple places - quickly too since they use Velcro. They worked great for me at my heaviest and now. This brand of shoe is a keeper for me, especially since I have a wide foot. I checked for you, and Atlanta has Teva brands at Galyans and REI, as well as the Walking Store. A quick 'spin' around the store will tell you if they will work. :)

Good luck and God Bless!

Ray, I am another Teva lover, I think they are some of the greatest sandals and offer terrific support. I have problems with my feet, platar's facitis and could never wear sandals until I found Teva. I was over 200 pounds and they fit me well and gave me the support I needed. They are a little pricey, but I have had my current two pairs for a little over two years and I wear them a lot and they are still in great shape! Good luck with your search.

Hey Papa Bear Pooh Ray,

Maybe check out Doc Martins too. I don't think they are a wet/dry sandal but they sure are sturdy.

Ray,
I have a XL Pooh Size DH...and he LOVES his Teva's. He does everything in them from mowing the lawn to going to the beach. He is VERY hard on his feet and these things seem to "hold" up under the pressure perfectly!!

They can get a bit expensive, and I have found that if I buy him similar style ones without the Teva name...they work JUST as well. Check out Marshalls, or TJ Maxx...even Sports Authority carries other brands.

Ray-

Here's the link if you'd like to look around... they have all sorts!!

However, I've never tried the Teva's- but they might be just the thing for you.

Good Luck!!

I am another one that votes for a Teva type sandle. I always wore leather ones and let me just say not great for getting them wet!! But Teva type have several straps so you can adjust the strap that goes over the top of your foot as well as around the back. The are great when wet and dry very quickly. mine are not teva's but I believe Ocean Pacific but are essentially the same as Tevas. I got them last July and LIVE in them this summer as well as last summer and a trip to Disney. I wear them everyday to work and even walk several miles at a time in them several times a week. Very comfy!!

I've actually been sandal shopping for our family this evening. On amazon.com I've found a ton of good quality sandals at pretty reasonable prices. As for comfort I try to stick with what I know... If you go to the Apparel and Accessories section, select Men's Shoes then select sandals they have litterally hundreds of pairs of shoes, including some Teva's and Reebok on sale for less than $40. I've also seen Rockport shoes, which I trust will be very well made, supportive and long lasting shoes, they have Nike Straprunners which other DISers have raved about, all kinds, styles and prices. I've only had good experiences buying with amazon.com so I'm comfortable recommending ordering through them. Happy shopping!!
