We officially closed today on our first DVC property. We are considering a stay at VWL for our first time stay as DVC members. Does anyone have a picture of the studios there?

Also, can we stay in a regular hotel room there as DVC Just like you can at AKL?

You can book regular WL rooms if you bought direct or if you bought resale before March 2011. In addition to high points, there's a $95 booking fee because it's Disney Collection, not DVC.

They are currently renovating half the lodge building to DVC rooms, no opening date.

I would actually do a youtube search for the resort and specifically the studios if that is where you are interested in staying in. Frequently you can find videos where the people taking the video give details about the room, storage, bathroom, kitchenette, balcony.

The studios are DVC. The rooms in the main building are hotel rooms, not DVC villas. To stay in a hotel room, rather than a villa, requires booking through the Disney Collection.

I think you might be confused about AKL. DVC can book the DVC villas at Jambo House which is a floor (or two) of the hotel that was converted to DVC villas. They cannot book regular hotel rooms there unless they trade out of the DVC system into the Disney Collection as others have mentioned. I am assuming based on your posts you bought resale ("just closed, not have access to online account yet"). Had you bought direct from Disney they would have granted you access pretty much immediately to your points and assisted you in making your first reservation over the phone while your online account was being created. As such you would not be able to book any Disney hotel that is not a DVC resort. Honestly though the cost for a room at one of the regular hotels using DVC points is crazy so it really isn't much of a loss.
Once the new DVC resort opens at WL there will be DVC villas within the main lodge (like AKL). So when that happens it would be possible for you to book a stay in the main lodge using your points.

When the new Copper Creek Resort opens at WL, it will be a separate DVC Resort. Not the same as the one we still all call VWL and is now called Boulder Ridge. I think I've got the names straight.
