VWL Studios seem "bland" in photo; Any pros/cons?

We're considering the Villas at Wilderness Lodge (studio room). We've stayed at Wilderness Lodge before and loved it. The photos of the studio room at VWL strike me as cold - the bed just looks lonely against a plain wall. The room pictures feel like they're missing something.

So, your opinions please for those of you who have stayed in a studio? And, if you had a studio location you really liked, I'd love to know that too!

Thanks veterans!

Hi,
I stayed in a studio at VWL last week. I wouldn't describe it as "cold" so much as "dark". I loved the resort, but the rooms were not my favorite decor. We traveled with friends who stayed in a 2 BR and theirs was similarly decorated.

Good luck with your decision - it is a lovely place to stay!

We love the Villas - and stayed in studios, one and two bedroom units - and cannot complain about any of the rooms we stayed in. We're currently booked in a studio this Nov/Dec. We always request a room with a balcony overlooking the pool - I'm not sure if that makes a difference in "light in the room" or not. You are in the woods - it's not like it's out in the open like some of the other DVC locations - but that's all part of what it's supposed to be about too - the whole lodge feel. We don't spend very much time hanging out in the room - but our feeling is that the Villas rooms are more "homey" than the other ones. Hope that this is helpful!

We stayed in a studio right at the end of the corridoor. Not the best of views but the room layout was a bit better than a normal studio. I enjoyed staying there!

;) We will be staying at the VWL next May for the 3rd time.

We really like the studios and find the decor warm and rich. I really like the red wall in the vanity area and the cool mirror.
They definately look better in realy life than pictures...imho.

I thought the same thing about the pictures, but DW and I went over to VWL during our last stay at OKW and asked to look at some of the rooms. The pictures pictures do not do them justice. They are very nice. We hope to stay there in the future.

They are horrid. Don't stay there. ;)

Yes I agree, stay away!! The rooms are run down and ratty looking. Dark walls run rampant(all the better to sleep in);) The beds are really uncomfortable(after a hard day in the park, though, I can sleep on about anything):cloud9: Oh and the hallways, have you seen that movie The Shining? Took that idea straight from the movie and plopped it right into the 5 hallways of VWL. Spooky, I tell ya! :scared1: And trees galore. They are everywhere! And they dont help block the noise a bit from all those buses on the one side, and noisy boats from the other. Just makes me  to stay there. And that place they call the Iron Spike Room down below. Its supposed to be a quiet area. HAH!! Stays noisy down there 24 hrs around the clock. You cant get a bit of sleep! And I would rather take my chances in the lake with all the disease infested water, the gators and the snakes than swim in that nasty little ol hole they refer to as the quiet pool.

Heed this warning, stay away!! You have been warned!!

(But if you come back just loving it, you didnt hear it from here);)

I thought that, too, but in real life the walls are actually textured and they look much nicer.

But the others are right, you won't like staying at the Lodge at all. It's too quiet and peaceful and beautiful. ;)

I thought the same thing before we stayed there the first time, but in reality it is very nice. I do think they could put a picture up on the wall next to the bed, but it didn't detract at all not having one there. I love the resort, the pictures just don't do it justice.

I asked my buddy and he didn't find VWL bland at all!

"Bland?"

"Anyone?"

"Bland?"

"Buehler?"

:lmao:

Buehler?
Buehler?

We love that movie!

Save Ferris!!!

We stayed there in May with our 2 year old grandson - we found it to be very roomy for the crib, and we thought the bed was very "cushy". The vanity area was large, as wast he "kitchen" area. The bathroom (tub/toilet area) was a little small because we needed to kneel to give the baby his bath, but if that isn't an issue, it was certainly big enough for adults to shower, etc. We did not use the pull out sofa to sleep, but we certainly sat on it and it was ok, a little hard. We were near the end of a hall, facing a wooded area, the pool was a little to the left of our balcony - it was quiet and peaceful to sit on the balcony. We just loved it and will probably stay there again. OKW is our home resort.

My wife and I thought the same thing when we saw the photos of the Studio. And we realized that (unlike the photos of the stuidios at the other resorts) there was no picture on the wall next to the bed.
It is funny that something as little as the absence of a picture can change your perception of something. I have heard that they are in fact, very nice.

We just returned from a 6 night stay in a 1-Bdrm. We loved it! Our room was facing the lake and we saw the sun come up every morning.

It's a wonderful resort and room, but I like dark colors. If you like light colors, you may not like it. My friend thought WL, not the Villas (she never stayed in the Villas) was dark. I had the dreaded dumpster view when I stayed there and we still enjoyed it. When I had a 2 bedroom I had a water view, through the trees, It was totally different. Room did have much more light too.

One thing that I feel the VWL studios have going for them over other DVC studios is the storage space in the kitchen area. There are drawers! We eat almost every breakfast in the room, and to have drawer space where we can put utensils, bagels, etc. really frees up the counter space.

We love the darker decor at VWL. And IIRC there is a very cute picture in the bathroom that the 1BR do not have. Maybe that makes up for the lack of picture over the bed.:confused3
