I was notified that the main pool at WL will be closing for referb. from Jan. through March.

Since we are going the first week of March, I am wondering if we should try to re-book to another resort. The small pool at VWL is going to have to handle the huge Wilderness Lodge, as well as VWL.

Anyone know the quickest way to the Grand Floridian pool? Is there a boat that goes there? Do you know of any other pools in the area that we can easily pool-hop to?

If I were going to pool hop from the WL I'd head for the boat dock and take the resort launch over to the Contemporary. You can then swim there, or hop the monorail to either the Poly or the GF.

If swimming is a big part of your planned trip (and it is for many), I think you may very well want to look into another resort. You are right...the quiet pool at VWL is very small and won't be able to handle the traffic.

Getting to the GF is not particularly easy...you can boat/bus to MK and then take the monorail to any of the monorail resorts. Or you can take the boat over to CR.

But frankly, there aren't a lot of easy options for WL guests when the main pool is down for refurb. I'd consider your thought of looking into another resort for the trip based on your presumed need for easy access to a pool during your trip. Good luck! :)

I think Granny is right on the mark. If the pool is important, look for alternatives. Time is short for you so it might be difficult, but it is worth exploring. Who knows... maybe you'll find a new favorite resort. Good luck. :thumbsup2

Not to mention the unauthorized Fort Wilderness pool hoppers....I guess Fort Wilderness is the closest resort with a pool in some respect (short boat ride, plus a bus ride, though) and after all that, it's nothing at all exciting, goodness knows.

Lots of pool refurb this January, it seems. I would love to try the pool at the Poly. Will you have a car?

Another vote for Granny here. No feature is a deal-breaker for us and we would change resorts. Best wishes.

The pool is important to us and a big part of our vacation experience. While VWL is our favorite resort, our kids need to have the pool. We were able to switch our 8 days in a 1BR over to SSR, our first time staying there. We're looking forward to trying a new resort.

I found out that they are going to provide bus service to poly and contempory. We will have a car, but if we have to travel, We would rather just go to Blizzard Beach. (TL is also closed). Maybe, with the bus service, and people wanting to use the slides..etc. it will not be so bad.

Right now, we are leaning towards staying at VWL, as we only spend a few hours for a few days at the pool, could always sit by the lake at WL or even at FW. In the past seven years that we have been members, we only stayed at the VWL for 1 week, and that was about 5 years ago. We really wanted to experience it again. It's over-due!

Just my luck, if I change resorts, the weather will be bad an we will have moved for nothing. That time of year is really a toss up on weather.

Has anyone tried pool hopping to the Grand Floridian? Could you park near there, or do you have to park in the lot across the street?

Thanks for the responses!

According to allearsnet.com, the WL pool will only be closed until 3/2, not all of March. Of course, they could be wrong, but they are usually pretty good about that stuff.
