VWL Groupies & Lovers Thread (Special Collectors Edition 2.5) updated 2 February 2025

Staying for 8 nights so a split stay is doable. We would do 4 and 4. I just don't want to stay there for the 4 nights and then regret not staying the whole time because we love it so much lol. Honestly though we really loved BLT also so I know that will be great too. Just can't decide. LOL As far as not wanting to stay at the Swan part of it is the transportation but also just not feeling it.
Then I vote for split stay! Especially you haven't stayed at Poly before, let's try it out!
Speaking of BLT, since our last trip my husband insisted that we must stay at BLT in the future for our MK days, especially if the extended evening perk continues. So guess what....after we got our BRV contract, I have been stalking for a small BLT contract!! LOL! There are quite a few out there, but none that I like/want.

That is very exciting!

So we were going to do the Swan and BLT but I don't really want to do the Swan TBH. We were only thinking of that because of it's location. No availability at the Boardwalk or Beach club sadly. Also nothing really available at the Lodge at that time. So I'm thinking I would really like to do the Poly instead because I have never stayed there. Just can't decide if I still want to do a split stay or just stay at the Poly the whole time. Hard decision. We did really love BLT last time. Help! LOL
Agree with MsChristy12, do a split stay. You can knock Poly off your list of non-stay DVC properties. And, since you really enjoy BLT, then you'll have that to look forward to. I've stayed at Poly twice and at BLT three times--BLT wins pretty easily. That's not to say I didn't like Poly--I did. But, BLT just fills more boxes for me. Despite the recent refurb at Poly, I still felt it seemed "tired." Perhaps because they've kept up the grounds at WL so well (and because it's a smaller resort, too), I can't help but compare the ambiance of Poly to our beloved Lodge. BLT makes no such pretense--it's meant to be a high rise and a bit modern. Granted, the times I visited Poly, there was a fair amount of construction going on, and that didn't help.
@takemetomickey One more "downside" about BRV. Although, I think this is just a personal thing and probably doesn't affect others as much. I like most of the dining options but I don't like Storybook dining at Artist Point. I wish it was a non-character dining, but I get why it's there at the lodge. So when we stay there, if we want a nicer dinner we would have to leave the lodge. Again, this is a personal thing as most members probably wouldn't even care.
You aren't alone. Artist Point used to be a topnotch restaurant, a must do every time I went. I've no desire for a too expensive character meal with a hefty price tag and prix fixe style menu. I surely miss AP, and Disney missed a chance to make Geyser Point a must do Signature restaurant instead of the mishmash that it is, albeit a decent eatery on its own.

There are still a lot of people love the current Artist Point and giving raving reviews. Because of all the positive reviews, we tried it our last trip but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The food was okay, theming was okay, service was rushed to the point I felt like they were silently saying "hurry up eat, get your picture w/ the queen and get out". I'm actually glad they didn't make Geyser Point a signature dining. The less people know about it the better, and it needs to remain as the hidden gem! Shhhhhh🤫🤭 LOL!

Thank you. I think we probably will do the split stay but I'm not sure which one to do first. I was thinking of ending with the Poly to surprise my daughter but I'm not sure.

Nope, can confirm no trail here. I’ve never done the trail before so there may be an alternate route? Happy to checkout another path if so, but the one from the cabins and from Boulder Ridge leads here.
Saw it on a YouTube video the other day he said the trail was open to Fort Wildnerness and showed a path?

Today is our last day. We leave very early tomorrow morning. It’s been a wonderful week here at the lodge but I’m also ready to get home. I really had hoped to squeeze in a lodge tour and a pontoon rental but time just got away. Maybe next time!

I snuck in one last peek at the boat rental dock and it appears they are replacing all the boards so I sure hope that’s a sign of rentals returning.

We are staying at BRV for the first time this summer. We own at BLT and have previously stayed at Kidani, OKW, SSR, VGF, Poly, and BC.

Any tips/suggestions? Anything we need to know? How is the boat to MK? We try to avoid using the buses (Lyft or Minnie Van for us), so the boat seems like a nice option.

Any particular food/drink we shouldn't miss out on at the resort? We are doing breakfast at WCC one day.

Thanks for any tips/advice! Looking forward to trying something new!
Hey Holden!
Welcome to the groupies!!
Sleepy did a great job on telling you some things to check out
Territory Lounge is a nice respite, especially late at night once Artist Point winds the evening down, and Geyser Pt is a nice addition to WL and a great hang out, grab a bite and drink place
WCC is a hoot and I think breakfast is the best meal there. Go with the mindset they will be in full mode of shenanigans, play along with it rather than fight it, it makes the experience more fun.
My last advice, take in the whole, yet subtle, ambiance of WL. What I mean, soak in the quiet background western themed music, watch the lanterns flicker along the paths as you hear the crickets chirp. This to me makes the experience stand head and shoulders above all other Disney resorts as the theming oozes the old west into your soul, and makes you long to return

Though we have done many spit stays, usually a value or offsite,(occasionally a moderate like Coronado or riverside if price is right)for long weekend followed by a DVC stay, as we age, it’s becoming less popular for us to do.
One reason, moving day is just that, moving day. It’s like the 1st day of arrival, we are tired by the time it’s all done and spent, waiting for room availability, sort of in limbo fir a few hours. Going to park or DS is definitely optional, but tend to feel like hanging closer to resort area in case room ready, so we can get moved and settled as quickly as possible. Just our quirky nature😂
But with my opinion in check, I can’t think of a better move of resorts. You are close by to each, poly is a great resort, wonderful theming, BLT is just a great resort, I love it for the proximity to MK, the amenities that are incorporated within a short walk at CR.
And I’m glad you chose not to do Swan(or Dolphin). We stayed once, loved the room, but had a bad experience with a bartender that tried to get our info swiped off our CC. Luckily a NYC cop saw it all and called the dude out. What made it worse is the management took the bar keeps side and refused to do anything about it. That did it for me. Oddly enough the bar keep slipped out to the parking lot once he realized that he had been spotted and claimed to manager he was sick and going home. He left without saying a word and waitress was left to man it all. Security stopped him before he got out of parking area and fixed him back in. I think he was sick after all, sick that he got caught🤢
But how management handled it was what told me I would never stay there again.

Wow a cop saw it and they still wouldn't believe it?! Wow that is crazy. I don't know what it is but I just feel meh about the resort anyway. We would probably stay at Boardwalk or Beach Club but there is no availability so I thought it would be nice to stay somewhere I have never stayed before. DD loved BLT last time and so did I so that was a no brainer. I honestly don't mind the packing up and moving too much since they will move the luggage. It's weird because the thing that makes me hesitate is that when we move it means our trip is half over and that is kind of depressing lol. I mean either way at that 4 night mark it will be half over but that just seems to make it more real. So I just have to decide how much I want to try the Poly. The rooms and everything else do seem pretty nice though. I like the 2 bathrooms and the murphy bed would be great for DD. I think a lot will depend on if DH goes.

I used to dislike split stays because of the packing/unpacking. But ever since I started using packing cubes, it is a whole lot more organized and makes it easier. We normally make the switch day our rest day, won't go to the parks. But it is still undeniable that split stay is more work!

DD generally doesn't like to do split stays because of the work of having to pack up and unpack again. I did ask her this morning about it though and she said if we can split between BLT and Poly she would be very willing to do it

@jimmytammy That's terrible what happened to you at Swan. We never stayed at Swan or Dolphin, but definitely considered it last trip because of the more reasonable rates and you still get some of the Disney perks.
I may have been an isolated case, but I get the feeling not. The guy seemed to be on his "game" as he had all the correct answers and no matter what the NYC cop said(he seemed to know what he was talking about because he had been trained to look for certain signs). I asked the cop repeatedly before he approached management that he was certain because accusing someone of anything these days can be devastating for all parties. I hope the guy is gone for future folks hopefully not getting the same deal happening to them. We had to wait for a CC replacement after the ordeal, luckily our local bank was on top of it. And they recognized suspicious activity as well when we called to stop any bogus charges. Again, I hope it was an isolated case, but the way management dealt with it and made assumptions that the cop was wrong, just left a bad taste
