I just re-read a thread that was posted a few weeks ago about top floor balconies at VWL. It sounds like top floors have a high & solid balcony railing that you need to stand up to see over. Also, one post implied that the roof hangs down and obstructs your view. It also sounds like there are vaulted ceilings on the top floor.

Is this true with ALL top floor rooms?
Just how "bad" is it?
When you sit on the porch, are you staring into a solid wall?
Does the roof obstruct your view on SOME/ALL rooms?
Do the vaulted ceilings look good?
Are the ceilings worth the solid balconie wall?

Sorry for so many questions, but I told MS I wanted an "upper" floor, and my confirmation says "top" floor. I don't know if I should change.

THANX in advance to all!

All the railings are the same, The roof does hang over but it is no different than the other balconies. All the Balconies hang over one another.

Don't sweat the small stuff you will have a great time!!!

Thanx, Spectro.
Just a follow up: When you say all the railings are the same, do you mean they are all high and solid, or all regular railings?

One year I stayed at WL on the top floor, and The balcony rail was a 4-foot high wall. Esentially, there was no porch and it made the whole room seem "dark". I know this is not a huge deal for many, but this will be my first trip home and we are bringing guests.

Thanx again

I just came from there, and the rail was not a solid wall, although quite massive. The top might have been 4 feet up. I didn't get the feeling that the highest balconies were any different. I have never seen balconies so small -- actually no wider than a chair! I was afraid that if I tripped going out, I could sail on over if not for the high railing...

Actually, I think you want the roof to hang over the balconey to avoid the bird problem they have on the top floor of BW.

We just returned from a week at VWL and here are my observations regarding the different floors. Some of this information came from the Disboards, and some I observed personally during my trip:

- The VWL has 5 floors, as opposed to the WL (main building), which has 7 floors.

- The 5th floor is not a full floor. Parts of the 5th floor are reserved for office space and storage.

- The 5th floor balconies are partially enclosed. When you are seated, you do not have a view. You must stand-up in order to enjoy the view.

- The roof does slope over some of the 5th floor baclonies.

- The balconies of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are all the same. They consist of post railings, therefore you can be seated and still enjoy the view.

For a visual aide, refer to the picture of the Villas on Page 99 of the 2001-2002 Member Guidebook.

We stayed on the 4th floor, so I can't speak from personal experience regarding the interior of 5th floor rooms. But in a thread I posted earlier someone commented that they hit their head on the vaulted ceilings of the 5th floor rooms:
