After an exhausting search, we chose a house back in February and paid a down payment for a May 20-27th rental. Received a booking form which I sent back and then made a down payment. It was stated that the final payment would be due 14 days before the day we took possesion of the house, which was May 6 (yesterday) and I still have not heard a word from the guy that we rented from. Our dates are marked off on his calendar. I sent him an email yesterday around 6 pm and still nothing this morning. Should I be panic mode? This is the first time we are going the whole rental home route and if it turns out bad, it will be the last!! I called my girlfriend last night and told her to be sure to pack super light because we may need the extra space in the rental car for sleeping!!!! :scared:

I wouldn't panic, he just might be thinking the responsibility is on you to pay him by the due date, that sort of thing. He might also not be super organized and realize you were supposed to pay him by xx date.

I would however, do everything you can to get in touch with him, make final payment arrangements, etc. If you have a phone #, call!!

Did you make the final payment?

Usually most homeowners have it due 6-8 weeks in advance, 14 days is a pretty narrow window.

Again, I wouldn't panic, just do your best to contact the owner, and get that payment made, if it was due on 5/6 I would overnight the payment out today, or use paypal or a credit card if he accepts those.

Have a great trip, and please come back and let us know how it went! :)

I made the initial deposit through my son's paypal account and told him at the time I paid that deposit that I would be making final payment from the same account. When I emailed him yesterday, I told him that I know the final payment was due today (yesterday) and that I am ready to pay it, he just needs to send me an invoice. If I don't hear back from him today, I will call a number that was listed on the VRBO site and see if I can talk to him or somebody about it. If the trip wasn't only 13 days from now, I wouldn't be so worried about it. You would think that the owner would want his money, but I guess not. I just hope this all turns out fine in the end.

Thanks mungo, I am trying to do just that. Since this is my first time 'offsite', I just haven't built up those nerves of steel yet that some of you seem to have!! :) Everything will probably end up just fine.

Try not to worry too much just yet. I recently booked a condo for a business stay in Biloxi. I sent my info to the lady and waited to hear back from her. Finally, after about a week and a half, I emailed her again, and she sent my booking information then. She just had been busy, and it had slipped her mind.

I've never had a bad experience with VRBO. I can't promise that I never will, but I haven't so far.

Hopefully, you'll hear something before too long. Someone posted on here not too long ago with pretty much the same situation, and everything did work out fine! :thumbsup2

Don't worry just try to call the owner they may have been out of town or something like that. I know I have been out of town for the weekend and did not answer my emails like I usually do.
Keep us posted
