I have been looking on VRBO and it seems that Davenport is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than Windsor Hills. I know it is farther away, but how out of the way is it? I am looking for a 6Bedroom...Any advice will be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with VRBO, however I assume the "Davenport" is the city? It would depend on which area, but if its on 27 then it isn't that far out of the way .. maybe 20-25 minutes tops to get to Disney from the general Davenport area .. you should probably take I4 though since 192 is usually crowded.

If this isn't about Davenport, FL .. oops?:rotfl2:

Oh, and if it is Davenport, FL .. if you want, you can PM me with the area and I might be able to help better, I live in Westridge (in Davenport) and it isn't that far away and isn't that bad, its quiet too.

We've stayed in WH and in Davenport. In Davenport at Lake Davenport Estates - The Palms on 27 and once at Grand Reserve which is south of the Windsor Hills area. Davenport covers a large area but most places are within 20 minutes of Disney property. Once you're on Disney property it can still take another 5 or 10 minutes to get to a particular park.
Here's a map of the area:

I am in Lake Davenport Estates -The Palms at the moment and as already said it is a large area when it comes to rental homes .It stretches from the 192 in the north to south of the I-4 and towards Haines City and from the 27 at the west to poinciana in the east.If you have the name of community them we can give you more of an idea of driving times .For example I am 8.2 miles form Disney property here and it can take 13-20 mins depending on traffic and times of the year but 15 is a good average. with 20-30 to Universal or sea world. As already said depending on which art of Davenport you are thinking of there are various routes you can take -I use the new Westside Blvd 192 and sherberth or 429 .

Yes, let us know what development you are considering and we might be able to help you more. It will come down to personal preference and what is most important to you. For my family, money is very important. It is worth it to us to save several hundred dollars by staying in Davenport. It only takes 8-10 minutes longer for us to get to the parks than someone who is staying in the WH area. We have four kids, so we need to save our money on accommodations since food and park admissions is expensive.

If you only go back and forth once each day, it might not be so bad. We tend to take mid-day breaks, so personally, I'd spend the extra money.

As others have said, it's really up to how you want to spend your limited vacation budget of time and money.

I've stayed twice in villas in Davenport...both on 27 about midway between 192 and I4. I found it convenient, and the drive never seemed to be much of a problem. Late at night it's a little tedious driving 20 minutes or so back to your house, but it's in a quiet area, convenient to stores and some restaurants. I didn't mind, and really liked the peaceful atmosphere.

Oh, and most days I drove back to my pool home around midday for a swim/lunch break, then back to the parks/DTD.

As a rule of thumb, the closer to Disney the higher the rate. (And the cost of real estate follows the same rule of thumb).
Google Maps is a good way to check out the distance to Disney - go to www.maps.google.com and click “get directions”, then enter start address = your chosen community, and end address = 28.343,-81.566 (This will take you to the Disney maingate). You can also get satellite views and street views – great fun!

We much prefer Windsor Hills over Regal Palms and Bahama Bay which we have stayed at in Davenport. The driving time was a huge issue, and you really are a fair distance from restaurants and shopping centres. Both resorts were new when we stayed there, but check out the reviews on TA. It sounds like a lot of those units are becoming run down. It is well worth the extra money when it comes to time and convenience. Windsor Hills is so close to Disney and major stores and the gated security feature is a plus. Regal Palms did not have that feature when we were there. We just found Bahama Bay noisey if you didn't have a top floor unit and over-run with student bus trips. :sad2:
