Has anyone done the vow renewal on the ship? Can you provide details of what was provided? How it went? Was it worth it? When and where? Anything else you can think of?

Hi there. My DH and I did our 17th anniversary on the Magic (12/27/03-1/3/04). We did the vow renewal. It was a great experience!! When I got married 18yrs ago, we were married by a JP, so we weren't able to have a traditional wedding, due to costs. When we did it, it cost $1000.00 extra for it. We contacted Fairytale weddings and spoke to a rep. The cost includes your flowers, the boutinerre, 1 complimentary photo, dinner reservations at Palo, your cake, and concierge services. There is more, but I sorta forget. It was an experience that my DH, my DS (he was our best man), and I will never forget. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I will try to help.

Thanks Lisa!

This year is our 10th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, my DH is deployed and will not be home until next spring. We thought he was going to get leave in August and booked a 3 nite Bahamas cruise. Now his leave has been "cancelled" and I am rebooking for the 7 night cruise in May. This is his 3rd overseas deployment since 1997 and he is only in the National Guard! Anyway, I thought it would be really cool if our big family vacation when he gets home next year would include a vow renewal with our 3 kids present. I think it would bring us all together again as a family. (Sometimes it is harder when a deployed spouse comes home than when they actually leave!! LOL) Anyway, my daughter (9) is absolutely excited about getting to come to our "wedding" this time. I think it will be well worth the extra $1,000 or so.

Did you get to pick when the vow renewal took place? Which day? Where on the ship does it take place? Were there other people around or was it secluded? Will they take more family pictures? Can we choose what kind of flowers? Did you rent tuxes on board? Did you wear a wedding dress? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just really excited!

We're looking into the vow renewal for our October '06 7-night cruise. We were told to call a year in advance -- is this accurate? Is it also true that they won't do more than two vow renewals per cruise? We're afraid of getting locked out if we wait to schedule it a whole year in advance.

I'll try to help out, let me know if you have other questions. We just did this in January for our 15th anniversary. I surprised DW with it and it was awesome!
They do only 2 per cruise, but we were able to book it about 5 months early with no problem, I believe we were the only ones on our cruise.
Ours was on a 4 day cruise, and they did it on the Bahama day. We didn't have a choice, but this was perfect for us anyway.
It was done in the lounge on the main deck, where you enter the ship, can't recall the name of it, but it was very nice...private, roped off no one but us and our kids, the captain, the concierge and the piano player, and the photographer.
We got to pick out flowers and the cake topper.
We did add on the photographer package. She took a bunch during the ceremony, then took us around the ship for another hour taking great shots, expensive, but worth it to us.
I wore a suit, DW wore a nice dress, but not a wedding gown and tux, they will rent tuxes, but we didn't feel that was necessary.

If you have any other questions let me know. I thought it was awesome and well worth the price, I know my DW would agree!!

Instead of the captain can you opt for an Elvis impersonator? One of my goals is to surprise DW with this in Vegas one of these years. Of course, that may well turn into a combo vow renewal/divorce ceremony (I hear they give discounts on that sort of thing).

All kidding aside, this vow renewal ceremony sounds wonderful! Good luck!

You aren't bothering me. Sorry about not answering back right away, I work 3rd shift, so I don't get to check the forum until the next morning. To answer your questions, I was able to pick my date, which that date was aready set for our cruise. The ceremony usually happens on a sea day. The time is usually set by the captain. You have to wait to call for it at least one year in advance of the date, if they have that date open. There can be only TWO ceremonies accepted per cruise. We had our ceremony done at Sessions, one of the clubs. Yes, I did wear a wedding gown, the captain said out of the years that he has been with DCL, he has not ever seen a dress so elegant as mine. You also, pick out your flowers, cake, etc. I rented tuxes for my DH & DS. When you call & book Fairytale weddings, they send you a packet with all of the information and choices you have. You even can pick out the songs from a list of what you want played at the ceremony. Hope this helped. If you have anymore question just ask.
