Disney is evening doing trips to Norway based on the film as well and using it to drive sales if I am not mistaken.

Should we put Winston Churchill in the Hall of Presidents now as well? He's probably one of the most popular leaders of another country in history within the US.

I guess of all places that has basically 0 effect on bottom line you would think a patriotic singing group would be the place for a little more strict view of theme. I guess this is just another place where Disney is dumbing down the themes and looking to make more money...?

Disney could proclaim any future movie as based anywhere but that doesn't mean that the actual country really has anything to do with the film. I wonder if they picked Norway for any particular reason? Any Scandinavian country could have fit.

As for the Let It Go performance, meh. I'm not a big fan of the song but I understand why they're including it.

I don't much care. I find it a it odd having it sung there, but....VoL sing other not so patriotic songs, so not a big deal, for me. But...and I'm probably going to be in a hugely small minority here, I liked their version. I loved the harmonies, it's what VoL does best.....and, dare I say it.....much preferred that soloists voice to Idina's. again, going to be in the minority here, and I'm okay with that!

I think what people are having a problem with is this song has been identified with Frozen, a movie, an animated movie, that doesn't take place in America.

However, the original singer of the song, is American. So is the pop culture princess who sang it at the end of the movie. The writers of the song are American and Robert Lopez, the co-writer with his wife, is one of twelve people who have won all four big ones - Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Emmy.

So, I learned a lot in my brief search of the song and I kind of now identify it as American with all that.

For me it's less about the song itself being American, more about the pavilion losing its Colonial character.

Robert Lopez is Filipino-American which means at least two people associated with VoL are not of European (probably Norwegian) descent!

If Disney thinks they are trying to attract a younger audience, the company is completely off the track.

On numerous visits I have witnessed children of all ages sitting there spellbound and in awe during the incredible performance of the Voices of Liberty.

I do not imagine anyone young saying they refuse to go the American Adventure because they will not hear the music they desire.

The Voices of Liberty sing patriotic American songs because they are present in a forum that celebrates a few of the accomplishements of the United States.

By the way, since when did this treasure of a group become the VoL? I know, I know, there is another thread on this very topic.

Agree. They should stick to the theme of the American Adventure. I might be old fashioned, and perhaps patriotism hasn't been "popular" for a while, but Walt Disney always kept a proper separation between commercialism and patriotism. We don't need to "fun" up everything and make it current. This pavilion is themed to America and a specific time period during the country's founding, as are the costumes.

Singing more modern songs, especially "Let It Go," is an anachronism that violates Walt Disney's principle of "show."

I'll play devil's advocate here.

Personally, I used to sing many "pop" songs in a group that was arranged pretty similar to VoL ... and there is something really fun with having people "get" a song you're singing. While VoL is really great at what they do, especially classic Americana songs ... I can see the desire to mix it up a bit.

I've also performed a song before the Dapper Dans on Main Street as part of a female barbershop quartet ... want to talk about nontraditional?! What's really amazing about music is the ability to make it interesting while not always confirming to "traditional" music standards.

I love Vitamin Strings Quartet ... who do string versions of songs from such bands like Tool and have even covered Lady Gaga. I bet some people believe classical instruments and techniques shouldn't be used in such a way ... but it's a really interesting way to express musical talent.

The situation that seems to be the issue (certainly with me) is it's not WHO is singing the song.
It's WHERE they are singing it.

We are not discussing the preferences of a generic singing group, we are talking about a signature singing group, hired by Disney (and named by Disney, btw) to sing as part of the American Adventure attraction pre-show inside the signature USA World Showcase attraction.

If this was not part of a specific attraction, I don't think anyone would mind them changing the genre of tunes.

But, if Peter Pan's Flight suddenly dropped it's signature Pan tunes and started playing "Come Fly with Me" by Frank Sinatra, there would be some serious complaints that it is against the tradition of the attraction.

Attention to specific theming detail is a major Disney tradition.

I agree with this, too. It's getting to be Frozen overload. Rumor has it that Maelstrom is being changed over to a Frozen attraction too (like El Rio del Tiempo changed to the Three Caballeros).
