VMK Pirate pins/cards are sold out

Last night when I ordered mine I was told that they were totally out of stock. I asked if she knew how many they had and she said 600. I some how find that hard to believe but said that they were placing them on backorder. They will ship any backorders out before they place them back in the parks. The dates that I was told was from the 3rd - 30th of Dec.

Should I try again? I was told they are absolutely not taking back orders. To me it seems silly,...why wouldn't they? I mean that way they know exactly how many they need to make.

So I've been looking at various places on the internet and seeing a wide range of cast answers about when these pins will be available in WDW. So has anybody been to DTD or a park today and actually seen any? Or is it pretty much confirmed that everybody is out of stock?

thanks for any help :goodvibes

My mom contacted me about an hour ago. She was able to purchase a few boxes for me at DTD this morning. They were just putting them out when she arrived. Woot!

Good luck!

I just returned from the Magic Kingdom. VMK Central and the Main Street pin store both sold out of the pins first thing yesterday morning, and haven't received any more yet. The Frontierland pin trading store told me they received 24 boxes yesterday morning, and sold out of them within minutes after the park opened.

Only 24 boxes!

On Saturday I sent an e-mail ATTN: Pins asking to order some. A short time later I got a generic "thanks for your message we'll get back to you later" response. By Tuesday morning when the pins were to officially release I hadn't got a live response to my e-mail (either via e-mail or phone) so at 9:30a PST I called (407) 363-6200. I placed my order for 10 boxes and was told I should get the pins in 10-20 business days.

Now this morning I get an e-mail responding to my original e-mail saying:

Walt Disney World Mail Order said:
This pin is currently out of stock for Walt Disney World. Mail Order Sale, due back in stock 02/07. Please contact us at that time for via e-mail, or by telephone at 407-363-6200 to check availability. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I was concerned wondering if I would have to wait until February so I called and the CM checked my order number. She said that my order was filled and my ETA hadn't changed. I told her I had some friends who were interested in ordering some of the pins. She said they were told they're not taking any more orders until Feb. I asked if the Park would be getting any more before then and she said she didn't think so, but wasn't sure. She said they were surprised at the number of orders, but more specifically by the quanity of pins in each order. :confused3

I agree with Peasy, why aren't they aren't taking backorders as they would know how many pins to make? Makes no sense to me.

But yay for me, I'll be getting my pins! :teeth:

And if they really are out until Feb, does that mean the DLR release for Dec is going to be delayed/altered? I mean if they really have no more pins... Of course I find it hard to believe that it takes three months to make/deliver a batch of pins for which the art and setup have all aleady been completed. I seems to me another order could be cranked out in a week or two - Tops!

In fact, curiousity got the best of me so I did a quick Google and the first pin company I found (coincidentally in Florida) say pins are received within two weeks from the date of order. And that's just a quick search by someone who's never done something like this... I should think that Disney has better resources than me.

So now I'm really confused as to why it's going to take so long to get more pins for what sounds like many guaranteed sales. :confused3

On a side note, after looking at that company's pricing ... Wow! Disney makes a ton of profit on pins. Heh. :rolleyes1

I think they meant boxes as in CASES, not 24 pin boxes, but 24 boxes of pin boxes :)

I know it sounds crazy, but the Frontierland pin store people said they only got 24 boxes of two pins each, and they were gone in a snap.

Makes me think it's going to be a while before the stores can keep 'em in stock for any length of time.

February?!!! That better not be how long it takes to get my order. :sad2: I don't know why I'm surprised though. It's a more complicated thing to make than pins of course, but last November I joined the Walt Disney Classics Collection. They told me I'd get my Belle sculpture by mid-December. Well, turns out they had "run out" and had to make more, but I was still supposed to get it by January. Guess when I got mine? Mid-April. :scared1: Explanation we finally got was Disney outsources most of their merchandise production work out of the country and they don't fly the stuff here; instead they ship it by boat to CA and then it has to get to FL or wherever else it's supposed to go. Heaven help us, here's hoping it's not so complicated for pins.

My suggestion for those that couldn't place an order yet: call DL Mail Order the morning they're scheduled to go on sale there (call right when they open, if possible) and order them from them. Not until December granted, but it beats waiting until February to place an order.

Shh! Don't give away the secret! :ssst:

:rolleyes1 :teeth:

My mom came home today from WDW and surprised me with 2 boxes of the new pirate pins. She found them in the 2nd floor gift shop of the Grand Floridian. There were 3 boxes, and she bought 2 of them.

So I ended up with 2 ship chairs, pirate treasure rug and the insider tour pin.

I was hoping for a bird hat, but I'll take these! :goodvibes

oh, she tried looking high and low elsewhere but everywhere else was sold out of these pins. Fortunatly she came across these at the GF. :thumbsup2

I'm really glad you were able to get your pins! :goodvibes

I do wonder though why when I called merchandise today just before noon, they told me that all of WDW is sold out of these pins and won't be getting more in until February. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this pin release is being handled very poorly. :sad2:

pssst! there's 1 box left in the gift shop on the 2nd floor of the Grand Floridian! (unless someone bought it by now..)

I just noticed that I have been charged for my pin sets from mail order which would lead me to believe that they are on the way. Guess I ordered mine early enough before they started to back order.

They did not say anything to me when I ordered them but it was fairly early in the morning when I did it.

Watch me get all of the same sets, LOLOLOL.

Lucky you!! I sent in my email right after midnight, thinking I'd get my order in early... guess again! I got a receipt message back the same day, so I was hopeful, then two days later, got an email saying they were all out and to try again in February :(

Well I guess that's not good for me. I was hoping to wait till Saturday or Sunday when I arrive at WDW to buy them instead of ordering them on the phone. I'll check anyway but listening to what you guys have been saying I guess I'll have to wait till February like most others and order them on the phone. I thought I'd be able to buy them on my upcoming trip but I guess not.

I ordered mine the day before they were released and I just checked my credit card and it has been billed, so I think that means they have been shipped out. But don't despair - they are selling on eBay and the starting prices are quite reasonable. I will finish my collection that way if necessary.
