VMK Marketing Check-up

Also would like to expand on the Flat Idea (speaking of which I need to get Augusts Contest up and running and post July's winners)

Anyway how about paperdolls of flats all a uniform size with costumes you can buy in the parks.

We have been expanding on ideas for VMK since day one here at the DIS and some of which have come to pass, do not know or care if they were already in the works when we posted them or not, just glad they did ;)

Hopefully some of these ideas too will come to be. ;)

Here's keeping my fingers crossed for them!

I 100% love this thread, Tink!

I just came back from WDW and was very, very disappointed that there wasn't even a VMK key chain for sale. I totally expected it! :( I figured being that it was VMK Central they would have SOMETHING VMK for sale. I'd like to see key chains, cards, magnets, and more with the VMK logo and characters.

I am very into Disney pin trading and also would like to see VMK pins in the near future. When I talked to a Cast Member at VMK Central last weekend, I ask about the VMK pin that was released about a year ago. I told him how I was clueless when it came out exactly and how it was sold, but that the last time I checked eBay it was selling for hundreds. He then proceeded to tell me that another pin would be released this holiday season. Luckily, I will be at the World in December and am praying I will be able to get the pin then.

Great thread! Yes, the build-your-VMK character sounds like it could be
fun. I can see a place where you can choose the "face" style, hair, clothes.
Would also be nice for a way to computer to select a design for a tshirt
based on your avatar. I could imagine a family having a shirt with all their
avatars on it.

As for me, I did the in-park purchases last year on Disneyland's 50th
birthday. I bought gold ears for the gold Mickey ears card the night before
all guests received special gold ears free the next morning. :)

I bought the cheapest magic trick ($3) I could find to get the magic mirror,
and a pin to get the Happiest Celebration pin. I did not create a new
character at VMK Central, because I had no idea that new characters did
get all the great swag from being "born in the park".

At WDW, I bought candy in Frontierland, but I did not buy photos.
Would I buy trading cards? Yes! I would love to get a set of cards.
They already have trading card packs for other things at WDW, but
a VMK trading pack series would be like Disney printing their own
currency.

Oh wait. They do print their own currency. ;)

There are lots of missing marketing opportunities, and I think VirtuallyMe
covered many of them well.

I would also love to get trading cards, as long as some packs were available at the Disney Stores or at www.disneyshopping.com. I could certainly see certain packs WDW/DL specific. I also agree about more codes in DVDs. I had forgotten in my previous post, but the VMK code did sway my decision on buying Herbie. Luckily my son adores the movie. I keep expecting new DVDs to have a code and unfortunately there haven't been any since Herbie. Although I do purchase most Disney DVDs as part of my collection, (I have been buying every video since they first started releasing them over 15 yrs ago) there are some straight to DVD movies and other movies that weren't so good that I haven't bought in recent years. Having a VMK code in them would definately persuade me to make that purchase.

I wouldn't buy dolls or tshirts probably, but I might buy a pin or keychain or magnet in the VMK merchandise line.

As I live in Ohio and do not get to go to Disney much something else that would be cool is getting VMK Items from just the Disney Stores all around. We have a Disney Store at a mall near us and it's always cool to go in there, and it'd be even better to have merchandise there for VMK things. (Also help advertise)
The problem with that idea is that Disney no longer owns those stores.
See article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6291326

Personally, VMK hasn't affected my spending money, since I can't afford to go to the parks anyways. Although, I'm sure that if I did have the money and lived near a park, I would be spending more money, :)

Actually, I did buy a brand new copy of Herbie just to get the code instead of buying it second hand (thereby giving more money to Disney). :)

VMK has finally given us some vmk merchandise to buy. The pins are great. I hope they see the potential of the market out there for real vmk stuff.

VMK, how about some more items?! Let's see key chains, packs of cards with codes, etc.

I have bought candy, a ride picture and a hat for the cards early after VMK started. Now I don't bother. I can get the cards just by asking.

I have not really changed the way I go to the parks, I go any time I can but I would have dropped some serious cash on the VMK pins of they had them in stock when I was there. That would have been the biggest amount of VMK money that Disney would have received from me.

I have bought a lot of DVDs for the Movie stuff for gifts, I usually give DVDs of Disney movies as gifts but I bought a few more than usual this year because of that promotion. If VMK was not part of it I would not have been as motivated.

I would have bought VMK merchandise if they had it.

I think that the pins being sold out so quickly gives disney a heads up on the pontetial they have with VMK and marketing.

I wish they would do cards in packs at the Disney store like they do with the trading cards.

Yes i too have increased my Disney spending because of VMK.
1 . Lots of Movies to get the rewards stuff
2. Pirate Pins i would not have otherwise purchased
3. Several trips to eBay that i would not have otherwise made (both for teh contest and other things)
4. I am planning a trip for 08 just to get a lightsabre i read about on the VMK boards

As far as the build a character and card pack ideas, I think they are both fantastic ideas. If the cards were available in the DIsney Stores i might even tolerate the staff in there and go visit

VMK hasn't caused me to spend more $. let's see, I haven't been to WDW in almost a year. my mom and her good friend went about a month ago so I gave her all my printouts and wrote out directions to VMK Central. oh, she did pick up two boxes of pirate pins, too. so I'm not spending extra for VMK but my mom is! :goodvibes
