Hi!

We just purchased our first points at BLT. We booked our first vacation and will be staying at AKV because there was nothing available at BLT on such short notice.

Here's my question. As brand new members who have never seen the resort we just purchased, is there any way to go visit and see a room while we are there? Do they keep a model or anything like that?

What about other resorts.. Do members ever just go and visit other resorts to check them out?

Our home resort is BLT, we will be staying there in Dec. Our first DVC was this last week at BCV and we enjoyed it immensely. We resort hopped to VWL and had lunch at Whisphering Canyon which the skillet was terrific. Lived the grounds if WL. They were kind to show us a studio and 1B as we requested. We hope to do a stat there in the future. If you go to the boardwalk, there is a studio set up on the boardwalk you can see. Very bright and nice. We stopped at the Contemporary, but avoided BLT since we wanted to be surprised come December. Looks nice from the outside.

You can always ask at the front desk of any DVC resort and if there is a clean, unoccupied room available and an available cast member, they will show you the room.

The Boardwalk does have models of a one bedroom and studio (making it a two bedroom) available to view next to JellyRolls. It is open daily. :thumbsup2

I don't know if they still do it but there are models of BLT and AKV at the SSR sales center that were open for members from 5-7 each evening. You could also ask at the desk at the sales center and if they have someone available they will take you there to see them. Be sure to tell them you are new members and have not seen any of the resorts so they don't think you want to do the regular sales tour. You can also take a bus to any of the resorts if you just want to see what the grounds etc are like. You could do it from a park or from DTD. If you want to see OKW take a bus there and get off at the last stop- the hospitality house so you can see the pool and then you could take the boat to DTD. and get a view of the tree house villas and SSR on the way.
If they are still doing it while you are there you can also sign up to go to the presentation in the lounge at the top of BLT and they do tours after that so you would get to really see your home resort. I asked at one of the kiosks at DTD and the person there said he could sign me up and we needed to be there about 12:30 or so and the meeting was from 1-2:30 or so. We didn't do it but I hope to be able to go if they are still offering it when I go back the week after Thanksgiving. Hope you have a geat trip and by the way Welcome Home!

There is a model on the first floor of BLT that you can tour. We were in a studio in July, and asked if we could tour the 1 BR. The DVC CM was more than happy to show us around.

If you bought direct from Disney, contact your Guide and ask him/her to help you change your reservation to BLT.

My wife and I have gone to the front desk, identified ourselves as DVC members and asked (nicely of course) if we could see a room. We have done this at AKV, BWV, BCV, SSR, OKW and VB. They have always honored the request.

Once, when I wasn't a DVC member yet, I asked at the WL if I could have a look into the villas there and someone from the reception staff came with me and showed me around.

After we became members, we asked at the Contemporary if we could look at a room at BLT and they said there were guided tours every afternoon for members. However, we were leaving that day, so didn't have time for this, they said we should go to the preview center at SSR and there they showed us mock-ups of BLT and AKV. They also had pictures and a scale model of the treehouses which were about to open around that time.

Just an update- the current Saratoga sales center hours are 8am-5pm. The doors lock at 5 and nobody, including members, can get in after that time. You can stop in anytime during the open hours and they'd be happy to tour you then.

Each DVC resort has a DVC desk near the checking in area and if you go to them they will arrange for you to see a room at any of the DVC resorts. My husband and I have done it several times when we would go pool hopping and it is so great. I have seen the models of course when each one came out but it just isn't the same as going to the resort because the lobby in each one is decorated to the theme. Lots of fun to do.

I didnt have much luck with asking either the DVC representative or the CM at the desk at VWL. The first time we asked, there were no rooms available (understandible). The second time, they said there was no one available to show us. :confused3 We ended up loving WL, so we ended up buying there anyway sight unseen! (At least as far as the villas are concerned.)

We are in the process of deciding which resort to buy as our home resort. We are not currently DVC members. We will be in WDW in January staying at POP (kids choice) and since we drive down, I was wondering if there would be any problem driving to the different DVC resorts to look around?

Do they give you a hard time entering the property? Should I just say I'm looking to check out the resort to potentially buy DVC?

Looking at pictures doesn't give a good "feel" for the resort, and seeing models of the room is ok, but really, rooms are rooms. I want to see what the resort has to offer, the pools, the scenery, the gift shops and restaurants. You can't really get that from a picture.

You should not have any problems getting past the guard shacks. Just tell them you want to checkout the resort. BLT requires use of a BLT KTTW Card to access the building and pool area.

So for BLT, would it help to go to the lobby and ask to check out the pool area or maybe to get a brief look around?
