I have never been to Florida during the winter months. My family has our next trip planned for December 5-12. I know that most sites state average high of like 75 and lows in the 50s. Can someone who has visited during this time, are we talking packing shorts? or more like jeans & sweatshirts, or probably a bit of both?

Any other recommendations anyone has for visiting in December? I have read several threads about decorating the resort room windows/doors. Look forward to any advice.

well if your from up north where its really cold shorts and tees are fine but if your from a place like here in florida pack your skee gear.

Being from Mass I love Florida in December. Shorts and tees during the day and just a fleece jacket for night. You never know though, one December we were there and we had to buy gloves and hats for the kids. Yes, it was that cold :cold:
That was only that one time, but I always have jeans with me just in case. We will be back this December too and it can't come fast enough. There is nothing like the World at Christmas. :santa:

I have been the last two years. The fist year I only needed a light weight jacket in the early morning and in the late evenings. I had capris and 3/4 length sleeve tops. I took the same last year and wish I have shorts and tanks as the temps were in the mid 80 and it was very humid. I live in snow country.

we'll be there dec 5 - 13 too - planning to bring mostly jeans, a couple pair of shorts, t-shirts and sweatjacket for both of us

We're going to be there at that time, too! I was there in 98 and it was perfect. Shorts, t's, swimming...never a jacket needed. Of course that was 10 years ago. I lived in FL for 9 years and it can get pretty chilly down there usually it did so in Jan. It's hard to tell but they say the avg is 65-75.

We're going in December, too - the 2nd-8th. I always overpack so I was determined to not do it this time, but I don't think I'll have a choice!

The best thing to do is just wait til a day or two before you leave and see what the weather forecast is. If it's going to be very cold - pack accordingly, you won't needs shorts. If it's forecasting to be really warm, throw in a few pairs of shorts and tees.

Unfortunately, there's no foul proof way to pack way ahead of time unless you plan on packing for 3 seasons!

I'm a very early packer and having to wait until that week is going to be very very hard for me.

:cool1: We live on the Gulf Coast. Before we go to Orlando, lke 2 days before, we decide what to pack based on Internet temps and weather reports. I have taken everything from shorts, capris and t shirts to sweat/active wear and jacket. Our weather in the winter months is so unpredictable. I would think shorts and t-shirts for you guys. Light jacket for evenings, but do an Internet search the day or so before you leave.

Of course my husband is of the opinion that he only packs things for his bottom half and then he gets a new Pirates T-shirt every day to wear. My 44 year old child.pirate:

We were there last year that week and will be returning this year same week. Last year it was very warm...swimming in the pools warm but would cool down at night (shorts and a sweatshirt). Dec. is unpredictable though. I pack a little of everything (shorts, short sleeves, capris, jeans and a zipup sweatshirt/hoodie).

We went last year approximately the same time.I was going to bring all jeans & I usually pack months before...I get so excited!!! Anyway, my husband asked if I was going to bring shorts & I said no he said you never know. Good thing I did -that's all I wore!!! (Sweatshirts at night & early morning) Have a great trip -it's one of my favorite times to go!!!

I too am going the same time
I am hopeing for anything but freezing temps
I can get that at home in PA
I do have fleece scarfs and hats I made with my embrodery machine and Tshirts that I did as well.
so what ever the weather I hope to be prepared:surfweb:

Thank you all so much. I guess I will have to be a weather channel addict the few days before leaving, but someone will probably have to give me treatments haha, not being able to pack months in advance. I will probably be climbing the walls. I dont do well with spur of the moment things. :)

Bring a little bit of everything. It really varies. Layer when you are at the parks and definitely bring a sweatshirt with you for the nighttime. And like a previous poster mentioned, it depends on where you are from. We were down there once in December (we're from Ohio) and we were warm, but we had locals in line with us talking about how they wear parkas in December when we'd be fine in a sweatshirt.

I went in December of 2001 and I completely froze. Most of the plants were covered up to prevent them from dieing. But I went in December 2007 and there was great weather.

To reiterate everyone else, I went in December of 2004 - perfect weather - mid eighties. Went the next year, December of 2005, it barely reached 60 most days [usually 50] . . . and I promised my then 6 year old son we could swim on that trip. And I did. :headache:

As everyone else has said, it's completely all over the place. Bring things you would wear for spring up north and you'll probably be fine, but I'd bring some lighter things as well a light jacket and long sleeve shirts. Last year, I dressed for NC weather (where I live) and was a little uncomfortable as it was hotter in FL. One year, it rained and drizzled freezing rain. Fortunately, I had a heavy coat (and, didn't have to wait in any lines!).
