I need to get some virus, spyware, and addware protection. I need something easy with no hastle. Any suggestions? I don't mind buying it if it's easier to use, or better than the free stuff.

We use Windows Defender and Avast!. The Avast! virus protection is free and you just need to sign up for it online. The combination of both of these programs has done us very well over the past 3 years, with very few buggies that have gotten past these systems. Either way would reccommend that you don't go online till you have some form of virus protection, as you leave yourself open to every virus, spywear, etc on the net.

Another one is the free edition of AVG. We've used it with great success on all of our PCs in the home. Only ever had one infection in about 3 years, and that was from DS clicking on a web site that the software warned him had malicious code on it. Served him right...

Another vote for AVG. We have it on all our computers including my work computer. DD has Panada which Algonquin College requires and they loaded it on her laptop. So far it seems fine.

I typically don't like Norton but you can get a 3PC copy for $29.99 at most places like Costco, Best Buy, etc. But I also have AVG on one of my laptops, but also use Kaspersky on my most important PC.

Not a cheap solution buy get a Mac. I jave not had an issue in 18 months.

Virus - AVG
SpyWare - Spybot: Search and Destroy
Addware: Lavasoft AdAware

Oh, and most importantly - common sense when browsing.
You know how they say "Don't open something if you don't know who it came from". I take that a step further, and say "Don't open something, even if you know who it came from, if it seems a little suspicious".

my mac doesn't have a virus protector outside of the one that came loaded on it. The computer system alone is integrated with a protection kit that warns you of any "potentially harmful sites".

NOT That this is that reasonable ... to go and buy a macbook just for virus protection ;) lol

I have Avast on one laptop works fine, use McAfee with Windows defender on the main PC for the last 5 years not one infection .:woohoo:
I use AVG on DSD computer and she's been fine.
I tend to dis Norton as it always was propritory in times passed, but it seems to have stoped that and is a reasonable antivirus.
Bottom line you get what you pay for, freebies only protect basics like web addresses and e-mail. They tend to be lean and are fine for netbooks, main PC's I always use a pay for protection antivirus and recommend McAfee.
