Virginia Beach goers?

I've only been there once and don't really remember it. We are thinking of trying it out this summer. We would like a suite or condo type place, preferably a resort atmosphere. Has to be on the beach - anyone have experience in this area? I am not sure what to avoid. We don't want the boardwalk near where we're staying....would rather a quieter area with the option of going to the action when we feel like it.

Thanks!!

Did you ever think of renting a home? We've been to Virigina Beach a couple times with extended family and we rented homes in Sandbridge. We've rented homes right on the ocean and also on the 2nd and 3rd row, which were only a 3 - 7 minute walk right to the beach . . .

There are a lot of great restaurants on General Booth Blvd, and it wasn't a long drive to the strip . .

You can check out a couple realtors, we used Siebert Realty and always had a great experience.

Ditto what WishUponAStar said (and why did that come up first to me before the OP's post??)

I live in Virginia Beach and used to vacation in Sandbridge when I was younger. I also recently married my DH in Va Beach near the oceanfront too :bride:

Sandbridge is gorgeous- it's my favorite part of the area. You can rent a house or condo there and it's very quiet and mostly beach-oriented (not resort-like but quaint beach houses). The north end of the oceanfront is nice too (above the boardwalk area) but there is only one hotel up there. Everything else is on the boardwalk. Our wedding guests (and us) stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on 37th street- the boardwalk ends only a block or so north of it so it's quieter than further south.

Another option is the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel- my friend got married there in May. It's on Shore Drive on the bay. There will be less waves but it's quieter and more local.

Make sure you check out what's going on in town when you visit, especially if you end up at the oceanfront. We set our wedding date before realizing there was a Shriner's parade and convention in the area :headache: We have a ton of festivals and whatnot going on so check http://www.beachstreetusa.com/events for a lot of the events. There is also the Rock n Roll Half Marathon over Labor Day.
