Hi there,
Can anyone tell me what these are like currently? We flew Virgin 2 years ago and the children were given quite substantial backpack/shoulder bags. If they are given something similar to this, I may suggest they don't take their regular backpacks so they don't have to carry two bags each. (They could carry their stuff in a lightweight foldable bag until we board the plane).
Thanks

Hiya Ali

We came back in April and both DS's got a backpack. Their quite big and have a small pack of sweets, coloured pencil, activity book and a reading book. They have a handle or a strap to use as a backpack.

They both used there's to carry stuff back home on the plane which was really handy as we were full to the brim in the suitcases.

Hope this helps

we got them too - in fact dd used her baseball cap today while going to nursery as the sun was out and ds often finds his watch and uses it. My only criticism of the bag is it does not have a zip fasten but velcro and although great not great kinda bag for a 3yr old son who manages to carry his bag upside down!!!! :rotfl: although he very rarely put anything except juice, jacket and on way home teddy!!

The bags we got in December 04 weren't what I would call "big" as in a normal rucksack size (hope that makes sense) and my DDs wouldn't have been able to fit all their rucksack stuff in the Virgin bags. I don't think they were any different to the ones in had in August 02 though so our ideas of "big" might be different :)

As Jacqui says though they don't fasten terribly well and I would not want to risk Gameboys, games and assorted other things my DDs like on the plane  to one of them.

It was no problem to have a rucksack each and also their Virgin bag though :)

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your comments - I do like to plan as much as possible on such an important trip. This board has been so useful for all my questions, however trivial.
Now I must continue with my packing as we going tomorrow!!!
