We have gotten a very similar price with VH for a fly drive that we have with VA with miles plus money so we are looking at the fly drive as it includes a free car.

The insurance that they include is just basic and they say to upgrade which is another £200 on top.

My query really is whether you do upgrade or if perhaps you have insurance here that covers you already?

Would be interested to know.

Thanks
Lisa

As far as I know, no UK car insurance company covers you abroad, you have to take out an additional policy, Some people on here buy an annual policy for £99, I prefer to take the Car hire companies insurance.
It usually works out cheaper to forget about the VH car rental and use someone like www.airlinenetwork.co.uk or there are plenty of others.
You need to compare the prices.
It really is not a free car you pay OTT for insurance.
How long are you going for and what class car?

We have booked and it only actually worked out about £50 difference through booking it all separately or getting a fly drive and upgrading to their platinum insurance (similar sort of thing to Airline Network's upgrade) so we went with VH, it means we can pay it off bit by bit too :)

I have always taken out the £99 holiday insurance through Natwest. I actually payed £75 last time as I had their credit card. We have never had any problems. All the car hire people do is take £500 promise on your card (not sure of the tech name for it). They do try the hard sell and insist that you are not covered for all things. Well I have had extensive talks with my insurance company and they assure me that I am totally covered. In fact one year my DH was tired and gave into the pressure! I went back to the desk and straightened it out!

We are this year taking the insurance and car from the travel agent (Funway holidays), only because the flights were cheaper, but you had to take the C&I. It still worked out cheaper than VH fly drive which didn't include the Insurance.

I have, previously, taken out the annual www.insurance4carhire policy with no problems :thumbsup2

This year, however, it didn't work out much different to take the insurance offered by Virgin (very surprisingly :confused3 ) so, for ease, I've just booked DD and myself Fly Drives and included the cover
